Over the course of 10 weeks our team collected data about bird sightings on Belmont’s campus. Sessions were recorded using eBird and Merlin Bird ID to correctly identify the birds and record accurate numbers. We conducted sessions at 3 different spots on campus, each with differing types and amounts of vegetation and human presence. These sessions were 20 minutes in duration and were conducted twice a week at each location. The data gathered was used to gain a better understanding of the bird trends and demographics on campus. This data was also used for WellCore events in conjunction with the …

Physics-Integrated Neural Networks For Improved Mineral Volumes And Porosity Estimation From Geophysical Well Logs, Prasad Pothana, Kegang Ling Apr 2025

Physics-Integrated Neural Networks For Improved Mineral Volumes And Porosity Estimation From Geophysical Well Logs, Prasad Pothana, Kegang Ling

Petroleum Engineering Student Publications

Accurate estimation of mineralogy from geophysical well logs is crucial for characterizing geological formations, particularly in hydrocarbon exploration, CO2 sequestration, and geothermal energy development. Current techniques, such as multimineral petrophysical analysis, offer details into mineralogical distribution. However, it is inherently time-intensive and demands substantial geological expertise for accurate model evaluation. Furthermore, traditional machine learning techniques often struggle to predict mineralogy accurately and sometimes produce estimations that violate fundamental physical principles. To address this, we present a new approach using Physics-Integrated Neural Networks (PINNs), that combines data-driven learning with domain-specific physical constraints, embedding petrophysical relationships directly into the neural network …

Integrating Visual Pedagogies With The Digital Platform To Establish Authenticity As A Gold Standard In Chinese Ideological And Political Education, Ruiqian Su

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

This qualitative study investigates the role of visual pedagogies, including photo-elicitation via Xiaohongshu, in fostering authentic engagement in asynchronous discussions within Chinese Ideological and Political Education (CIPE). It examines both the pedagogical opportunities and challenges associated with integrating visual content—such as images, videos, and multimedia—into CIPE. In response to limitations in traditional CIPE teaching methods, particularly in promoting critical thinking and meaningful student interaction, the research explores how digital tools can enhance engagement and provide a culturally responsive framework for ideological education.

The study addresses two central research questions: (1) How do CIPE instructors perceive the role of visual pedagogies …

Type II Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic health condition impacting many adults in Tennessee. Certified Diabetic Educators (CDEs) are specifically trained in educating and addressing the health care needs of patients with diagnoses of Type I or Type II Diabetes. Research has shown that education conducted by CDEs leads to improved outcomes and self- care in those with diabetes (Bowen, et al., 2016, King et al., 2019). Not only are CDEs cost effective services leading to a decrease in healthcare costs, but they also aid in the improvement of hemoglobin A1C (Hgb A1C) levels and decrease complications associated with Type …

Repairing Misconceptions Of Racial Justice Education: A Journey Into Students’ Experiences In A High School Social Justice Program, Rebecca Rose Novalis-Edwards

LMU Theses and Dissertations

This study investigated the transformative impact of racial justice education through the voices of alumni of a social justice high school program. Guided by Critical Race Theory (CRT) and Critical Whiteness Studies (CWS), the research explored alumni reflections on their experiences, focusing on how the program influenced their critical consciousness of systemic racism, racialized identity, and engagement in social justice post-graduation (Crenshaw et al. 1995; Delgado, 1995; Delgado & Stefanic, 1997; Solórzano & Yosso, 2002; Tate, 1997; Tatum, 1994). Employing Leavy’s (2017) mixed-methods approach, the study utilized surveys to form a baseline for talking points for focus groups. Findings reveal …

Traumas And The Development Of Personality Disorders, Madeline Raine Marler Apr 2025

Traumas And The Development Of Personality Disorders, Madeline Raine Marler

Doctor of Psychology (PsyD)

Whereas studies have examined associations between traumatic experiences and the development of various disorders, a notable gap in the literature persists on the impacts of trauma timing and type (intergenerational vs. personal, chronic vs. singular) on the development of psychiatric diagnoses. This qualitative study utilizes a grounded theory approach, thematic analysis, and various coding techniques to explore linkages between trauma and the development of personality disorder(s). The population referenced for this dissertation was sourced from accessible archival data, consisting of transcript dynamic intake or follow-up interviews, Traumatic Antecedent Interviews (TAIs), and chart reviews from a long-established psychoanalytic clinic. The qualitative, …

Total Intestinal Atresia In A Neonate: A Case Report., Cory Nonnemacher, Seth Saylors, Naomi-Liza Denning, Vatche Melkonian, Pablo Aguayo

Manuscripts, Articles, Book Chapters and Other Papers

Intestinal atresias are a common cause of neonatal intestinal obstruction. An extremely rare variant is total intestinal atresia, where no lumen is appreciable from the duodenum through the colon. We describe a case of a 33-week female who was born at an outside hospital and underwent laparotomy for concern for intrauterine perforation and proximal intestinal obstruction. Laparotomy revealed a duodenal perforation and an atresia in the proximal jejunum. Resection of this segment revealed no intestinal lumen distally, and the patient was left in discontinuity and transferred to our tertiary children's hospital. Repeat laparotomy revealed atretic bowel with no lumen through …

Investigating The Effects Of Sex And Estrous Cycle On The Incubation Of Cue-Induced Oxycodone Craving, Bhumiben Pradipkumar Patel

Theses and Dissertations

The overprescription and misuse of opioids like oxycodone has played a significant role in the ongoing opioid crisis. While effective painkillers, drugs like oxycodone are also reinforcing and often misused. While sex and ovarian hormones can impact the analgesic effects of these drugs, the impact of these factors on oxycodone reinforcement are not fully understood. This relationship between ovarian hormones and opioid reward is further complicated by the fact that opioid use can disrupt ovarian hormone levels and produce reproductive cycle irregularities. Using a rat model of drug craving and relapse vulnerability, we found that chronic oxycodone exposure produced reproductive …
