Traffic Signal Detection Based On Improved Yolov7, Lanyue Zheng, Yujie Zhang Apr 2025

Traffic Signal Detection Based On Improved Yolov7, Lanyue Zheng, Yujie Zhang

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: An improved YOLOv7 is proposed to address the problem of low recognition accuracy in general object detection algorithms for traffic signal detection. The algorithm removes the 20×20 detection scale and adds a 160×160 detection scale to increase shallow features while making the model lightweight. It combines the bi-level routing attention (BRA) proposed in BiFormer with axial attention, and innovatively proposes axially-guided BRA (ABRA). This module is specifically designed for the characteristics of traffic signal positions. To address the issue of object size sensitivity to the IoU metric, the normalized wasserstein distance (NWD) measurement is introduced to improve object location …

Research On Dual-Layer Path Planning Method For Lunar Rover Based On Slip Prediction, Zhang Xingyu, Baolei Wu, Jun Wang, Miaoying Hong, Jiahui Wang, Yongqiang Qi

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: In response to the challenges faced by lunar rovers in the process of path planning, such as safe obstacle avoidance and target deviation caused by complex terrain, a dual-layer path planning based on slip prediction is proposed. In this approach, flat terrain is adaptively selected to reduce the wheel slip of the lunar rover. The overall complexity of the terrain is calculated using digital elevation information, and a Q-learning algorithm with a three-level reward mechanism is designed to navigate around highslip areas, achieving global path planning. A depth camera is used to perceive obstacles, a dynamic window method based …

Journal of Medicine in Scientific Research

Background One of the main reasons critically ill patients suffer from severe illness and pass away, especially those who already have peripheral vascular disease (PVD), is sepsis. Sepsis's hypercoagulable condition exacerbates microvascular thrombosis, resulting in organ damage and unfavorable clinical outcomes. Antithrombotic treatment options, such as anticoagulants, antiplatelet medications, or a combination of these, have the potential to improve sepsis patients' prognosis. Objective In this study, septic patients with peripheral vascular disease (PVD) who were admitted to Shebin Elkom Teaching Hospital are examined for the effects of antithrombotic therapy on ICU mortality and clinical outcomes. Methods 112 septic ICU patients …

Glycation Metabolites Predict Incident Age-Related Comorbidities And Mortality In Older People With Hiv, Xi Qiao, Liangliang Zhang, Ming Wang Apr 2025

Glycation Metabolites Predict Incident Age-Related Comorbidities And Mortality In Older People With Hiv, Xi Qiao, Liangliang Zhang, Ming Wang

Faculty Scholarship

Glycation is a class of modifications arising from non-enzymatic reactions of reducing sugars with proteins, lipids, and/or DNA, generating advanced glycation end-products (AGEs). AGEs are linked to many age-related comorbidities. In response to HIV-1 infection, activated T-cells and macrophages shift their predominate metabolism from oxidative phosphorylation to glycolysis. Increased glycolytic flux enhances AGE formation, which may increase age-related comorbidities. In this prospective, multicenter cohort study of antiretroviral therapy treated people with HIV, we explored predictive associations by baseline plasma AGE concentrations and their corresponding detoxification metabolites, with incident comorbidities and mortality. AGEs included dicarbonyl sugars: 3-deoxyglucosone, glyoxal, and methylglyoxal. Methylglyoxal-derived …

Faculty Publications

Individuals with post-stroke aphasia exhibit deficits in regulating vocal (i.e., laryngeal) pitch control during speech vowel production; however, it is not determined whether such deficits also exist when they control their supra-laryngeal speech articulators during word production. To address this question, 19 subjects with post-stroke aphasia and 20 controls were tested under an altered auditory feedback paradigm in which they received + 30% shifts in their vowel first-formant frequency during word production. In addition, 17 aphasia subjects and 19 controls from the same groups also completed steady vowel vocalizations while receiving randomized pitch shifts at ± 100 cents. Consistent with …

Vigilante Justice Violence In Ghana: Does A Visible Police Force Reduce Support For Instant Justice?, John Ampomah

Theses

Vigilante justice remains a persistent issue in Ghana, with a significant portion of Ghanaians subscribing to it to address their grievances. While existing research has examined the social and cultural drivers of vigilante justice in Ghana, the role of visible police presence (i.e., police station and police patrol) on vigilante justice has received limited attention. This study seeks to add to the literature by exploring the relationship between visible police presence and support for vigilante justice by drawing on Black’s (1983) Self-Help Theory. First, I argue that a visible police force directly reduces public support for vigilante justice and indirectly …

Primary Care Telehealth In A Dynamic Healthcare Environment From Digital Divide To Healthcare Outcomes, Yunxi Zhang, Lincy S Lal, Saurabh Chandra, John Michael Swint Apr 2025

Primary Care Telehealth In A Dynamic Healthcare Environment From Digital Divide To Healthcare Outcomes, Yunxi Zhang, Lincy S Lal, Saurabh Chandra, John Michael Swint

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications

With expanded telehealth availability in primary care, its impact on quality of care and associated costs remains debated. Analyzing 199,829 Medicare beneficiaries in Mississippi (2019-2021), we found telehealth utilization associated with significant sociodemographic disparities, reduced inpatient admissions, and lower 30-day readmissions. By accounting for primary care utilization, our findings suggest that the higher absolute costs observed among telehealth users may reflect underlying healthcare needs rather than telehealth utilization.

A Radar Countermeasure Modeling Method Incorporating Cognitive Bias, Rui Wang, Xiangyang Li, Dong Wang, Hongguang Ma, Zhili Zhang

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: Cognitive bias, stemming from electronic measurement error and variability in human perception, exists in cognitive electronic warfare and affects the outcomes of conflicts. In this paper, the dynamic game approach is employed to develop a model for cognitive bias induced by incomplete information and measurement errors in cognitive radar countermeasures. The payoffs for both parties are calculated using the radar's anti-jamming strategy matrix A and the jammer's jamming strategy matrix B. With perfect Bayesian equilibrium, a dynamic radar countermeasure model is established, and the impact of cognitive bias is analyzed. Drawing inspiration from the cognitive bias analysis method used …

The Roles Of Cup1, Ssu1, And Mitochondrial Dna In Copper Tolerance In Wild Yeasts, Madeleine Panek Apr 2025

The Roles Of Cup1, Ssu1, And Mitochondrial Dna In Copper Tolerance In Wild Yeasts, Madeleine Panek

Undergraduate Honors Theses

Understanding the genetic basis of complex traits remains a central challenge in biology. In Saccharomyces cerevisiae, copper resistance is a multifactorial trait shaped by both genetic and environmental influences, yet its underlying mechanisms are not fully understood. The genes CUP1 and SSU1 are known to influence copper resistance, though how these genes interact with each other and with mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) variation in wild yeast populations is unknown. I hypothesized that the genes CUP1 and SSU1 and variation in mtDNAs contribute to copper resistance in wild yeasts independently and through genetic interactions. To test this, I measured copper resistance …

Hypomethylating agent (HMA) plus venetoclax (VEN) regimens are standard of care in patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) ineligible for intensive chemotherapy. While the VEN label recommends continuous 28-day cycles, shortened VEN durations may induce similar response rates and improve tolerability. It is unknown how a VEN exposure reduced to 7 days during cycles compares to standard HMA + VEN. We retrospectively compared newly diagnosed AML patients treated with azacitidine (AZA) x 7 days plus VEN x 7 days ("7 + 7" regimen) from the first cycle (n = 82) vs patients treated with standard dose HMA + VEN (std-HMA/VEN) …

Humanized Saccharomyces Cerevisiae Provides A Facile And Effective Tool To Identify Damaging Human Variants That Cause Exosomopathies, Khondakar Sayef Ahammed, Milo B Fasken, Anita H Corbett, Ambro Van Hoof

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications

The RNA exosome is an evolutionarily conserved, multiprotein complex that is the major RNase in 3' processing and degradation of a wide range of RNAs in eukaryotes. Single amino acid changes in RNA exosome subunits cause rare genetic diseases collectively called exosomopathies. However, distinguishing disease-causing variants from nonpathogenic ones remains challenging, and the mechanism by which these variants cause disease is largely unknown. Previous studies have employed a budding yeast model of RNA exosome-linked diseases that relies on mutating the orthologous yeast genes. Here, we develop a humanized yeast model of exosomopathies that allows us to unambiguously assess damaging effects …
