Upper-limb loss can significantly impact overall quality of life by limiting  a person's ability to perform activities of daily living (ADLs). Although prosthetic devices can help bridge the gap, many upper-limb prostheses are limited by high costs, discomfort, limited repairability, and accessibility barriers. Current commercial myoelectric prosthetic hands can provide high levels of functionality, but are often expensive and require specialized clinical access. In contrast, many current low-cost and open source prosthetic devices improve affordability but are limited in function or designed for partial hand applications rather than full transradial limb loss.

The breakup of retracting liquid sheet edges into droplets is governed by instability mechanisms that, in some ways, are not yet fully understood. Previous and limited experimental soap film retraction experiments using straight edges have produced results that differ from the behavior predicted by Rayleigh-Plateau and Rayleigh-Taylor instability models, suggesting that uncontrolled imperfections in traditional wire frames (used to form and detach the soap films) may influence film detachment and the subsequent edge instability observed. This is the case with the Hebrew word hesed.  Having encountered hesed in Scripture scholarship, pursuit of its nature and nuance has become a quest that has resulted in this thesis. What follows is a philological and exegetical study of the meaning and use of hesed in the Old Testament, its intertextual echoes in the New Testament, and its implications for right living. Individuals with intellectual disabilities (ID) now have access to higher education, often through inclusive post-secondary education programs (IPSE), to increase employability and quality of life. IPSE programs, historically, have provided academic and life skill support and not mental health support within programs’ curricula. A recent review of IPSE programs reveals that if mental health services are included, they are often accessed through university health services. Transitioning from high school to college induces high levels of stress, which can exacerbate underlying mental health conditions. Purpose Cancer care capacity in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) is constrained by late diagnosis and limited treatment access. Few funding mechanisms support innovative, locally led programs to address these challenges. A collaborative initiative was developed to strengthen oncology care through quality improvement (QI) projects.

Materials and Methods The program was developed by Global Bridges Oncology (GBO) at Mayo Clinic, Pfizer Global Medical Grants, and the African Organisation for Research and Training in Cancer. A committee composed primarily of African oncology experts guided the process. Objective To evaluate a competency-based cleft surgery training pathway designed to expand local surgical capacity in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

Design Prospective observational study of cleft surgery training outcomes between July 2022 and September 2024.

Setting Operation Smile cleft surgery programs and partner hospitals in LMICs, with integrated virtual education.

Patients/Participants Twenty trainee cleft surgeons from 11 countries.

Interventions A competency-based training pathway combining virtual education and mentored operative experience, with assessment using a validated surgical competency tool.

Main Outcome Measures Changes in self-reported surgical confidence and educator-rated surgical competency

This paper has two aims. First, to provide a positive account of moral disgust. I suggest that moral disgust is a response to acts that are socially corrosive, namely, acts that undermine the normative structure to which an agent is attuned. I support this analysis with two lines of evidence: (1) moral disgust serves the important function of guarding normative structures from socially corrosive actions and (2) the analysis provides an illuminating explanation of moral disgust in a wide variety of cases. Depression has become a major concern for educational institutes due to its increasing incidence and detrimental impacts on students’ well-being. However, its global prevalence in the context of tertiary education remains unclear. This umbrella review summarised existing meta-analyses and systematic reviews to examine the worldwide prevalence of depression among university students. Several sociodemographic and methodological factors, including differences in depression prevalence before, during, and after COVID-19, were examined as moderators. Structured and exhaustive searches were conducted in five bibliographic databases and five journals, alongside two sources of grey literature. Despite the use of latent growth mixture modelling (LGMM) to study longitudinal changes, existing practices may inadvertently impede this very investigation. Although subgroup trajectories may theoretically differ in their structure (e.g., some subgroups being linear, some curvilinear), the current convention advocates overreliance on the baseline model to derive subsequent profile trajectories, which may obscure these structural differences. In this article, we provide a brief description of extant LGMM practices, after which we explicate the pitfalls of the current approach. On August 23, 2026, three members of Cartel Del Noreste (CDN) attempted to smuggle three people across the U.S. southern border in Laredo, Texas. Francisco Suarez, age 20, along with Luis Daniel Segura Guzman, age 26, prepared to transport the group from Mexico to the United States. The cartel members used Facebook to advertise their transportation services and to recruit aliens who needed help. A third CDN member, Bernardo Aniceto Garza, age 27, was placed in charge of driving the vehicle.

On July 12, 2017, fifteen-year-old Josue Portillo was arrested on the conviction of four murders and one attempted murder which took place on April 11, 2017 in Central Islip, New York. During questioning, the teenager waived his Miranda rights and admitted to the murders on behalf of the gang MS-13. At the age of 15, Portillo murdered Justin Llivicura, Michael Lopez, Jorge Tigre, and Jefferson Villalobos. The victims were all members of MS-13's rival, the 18th Street gang. In exchange for the murders, Portillo was promised a promotion within MS-13, an opportunity to move up from the position of “Paro,” …

On December 9th, 2021, Andrew Scott Pierson pleaded guilty to charges related to his key role within an arms trafficking ring which smuggled ghost guns to Cartel de Noreste (CDN) and the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).1 Ghost guns are un-serialized firearms that are put together by components purchased either as a kit or as separate pieces. The operation involved Pierson and his close relatives and friends in a multi-state operation. Pierson and his network purchased the gun parts domestically in the United States across multiple states, made modifications, smuggled them across the US-Mexico border to finish construction, then sold …

The island of Dominica attracts around 300,000 to 400,000 tourists a year with its vast vegetative landscape and deep, rich culture (Tourism Analytics 2020). As tourism is an important and driving factor in Dominica’s economy, –accounting for about 10.5 percent of total employment and 12.2 percent of GDP in 2019 (Mu et. al 2023)–this project investigates the consequences tourism has on the framing of Dominica by using grounded theory and behavioral coding.

Mass spectrometry has become an indispensable analytical platform for investigating complex biological systems owing to its sensitivity, selectivity, and molecular specificity. This Dissertation demonstrates the versatility of liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) through three studies focused on nanoparticle characterization, protein structural analysis, and plasma proteomics. In Chapter 2, LC-MS methods were developed to characterize novel lipidoid incorporated into lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) and to evaluate their in vivo biodistribution following systematic administration. Across Massachusetts, many SNAP recipients are workers, caregivers, parents, elders, people with disabilities, and families navigating low wages, unstable work schedules, high housing costs, and limited access to wealth building opportunities. Many of these workers held jobs that were labeled “essential” during the COVID-19 pandemic: food service, caregiving, cleaning, healthcare support, retail, transportation, construction, and other service sector jobs. Yet the public recognition of their essential labor has not been translated into adequate wages, benefits, or economic security.

In the late eighteenth-century, the rise of the English Gothic novel propelled an extension referred to as the Female Gothic. Through the complexity of the English Gothic genre, writers—particularly women writers—explore the intersectionality of gender, class, natural horrors, and race, creating a space where the heroines of these Gothic novels exist beyond the confinement of the domestic sphere. This study examined the effectiveness of combining peer-mediated embedded instruction with constant time-delay (CTD) procedures to improve Agriscience vocabulary learning among secondary students with moderate intellectual disability who were educated in an inclusive Agriscience classroom. A multiple-probe across participants design was conducted with three students with moderate intellectual disability. Trained peer tutors provided embedded vocabulary instruction during naturally occurring classroom activities. Results showed an increase in independent correct responding for all participants following the implementation of the intervention. Procedural fidelity, interobserver agreement, Tau-U effect size, and social validity data further demonstrated that the intervention was implemented consistently and was viewed …

The LEaPP Phoneme-Grapheme Chart contains sounds in the English language and the corresponding orthographies to spell each sound ranging from single phonemes and complex vowels to blends and clusters. The Phoneme-Grapheme Chart also contains various spellings for vowel sounds and the approximate number of words in which these spellings occur in stressed syllables. Additional vowel spellings that are used less frequently are also included.
