This paper discusses the word choice, symbolism, and historical significance of Nuala Ní Dhomnhaill's poem, "Cathleen." It examines how the poem challenges traditional Irish portrayals of women, depicting them not as emotional, helpless beings, but as strong, independent individuals with a grounded sense of self. The analysis also reflects on how the poem can fit into the Irish tradition, particularly through the invocation of the name Cathleen Ní Houlihan, Mother Ireland.

Duchenne’s muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is a neuromuscular degenerative disorder that causes skeletal muscle degeneration in young boys and continues until the succumb cardiac to cardiac or respiratory failure around 30 years of age. DMD is caused by a mutation in the dystrophin gene that leads to no transcription and translation of the dystrophin protein, an important cytoskeletal protein that stabilizes the muscle fibers during contractions. The two current treatments for this disease are steroid treatments to slow down the muscle degeneration and morpholino antisense oligomers that attempt to restore the dystrophin protein in the muscle fibers but is normally not …

1.1 The American Horseshoe Crab (Limulus polyphemus) is an important species in the ecosystem on the Eastern coast of the United States. Horseshoe crabs in high densities serve as a foundational species, increasing local biodiversity by providing food to many other organisms. The population of horseshoe crabs in the Long Island Sound has been declining in recent decades due to overharvesting, pollution, and loss of shoreline habitat. Additionally, horseshoe crabs are susceptible to gill parasites such as the limulus leech (Bdelloura candida). Reproductive failure is a common problem which deeply impacts those affected. Many will, unfortunately, never learn any potential cause for this issue. Treatment for reproductive complications are limited due to the lack of understanding of the molecular pathways associated with fertility, especially due to the limitations placed on studies focusing on reproductive health. Model organisms can thus be used in order to gain a better understanding of the pathways that modulate fertility in multicellular organisms.
