Politics And Collection Development: Behaviors In Library Collecting Based On Political Climates, Zachary G. Stein, Lindsey M. Reno

Over the last several years libraries in the United States have dealt with an increasing number of book challenges and calls for censorship of materials. The challenges and calls for censorship are no longer only from library patrons, but now include national organizations and even local and state legislators. Some of these actions have moved to criminalize librarians and curtail first amendment rights. Due to this new climate, it is important to examine the effect these culture wars have on library collection development decisions. This quantitative study seeks to answer that question with a nationwide survey of library professionals.

This study analyzed organizations’ actions and perceptions concerning Scope 3 emissions measurement and the impact that regulations have on the measurement of these emissions. Specifically, this study investigated if organizations measure Scope 3 emissions and their reasons for doing so, the impacts of the proposal and eventual removal of the SEC Scope 3 reporting requirements on organizations, and supply chain professionals’ perceptions regarding if more regulation concerning Scope 3 emissions would be beneficial or detrimental. Fractured Spectacle: Contrasting Reactions To Itaewon Stampede Across Korean And English-Language Networked Publics, Jin-A Choi, Saif Shahin

Late modern society has been conceptualized as a spectacle, a metaphor that brings to light not only its commodification but also the benumbing impact of mass media on the audience’s political agency. This study turns attention to the spectacle in the age of social media. Building on a growing body of research on the spectacle of suffering, we compare reactions to the 2022 Itaewon Halloween stampede, which claimed more than 150 lives, across Korean-language and English-language posts on the social networking platform, X (previously Twitter). The Mexican fruit fly, Anastrepha ludens, is a polyphagous pest that is a constant threat to US agriculture because of its proximity to citrus production in border region of the United States and Mexico. Sterile Insect Technique has been used to manage and eradicate of the Mexican Fruit Fly. SIT, however, requires millions of sterile male flies to be released each week from mass-rearing facilities. The mass-reared colonies must deal with microbial infections that reduce survivorship, fecundity and male-male competition. Meta-transcriptomics joins culturing and next generation DNA sequencing techniques to understand these changing microbial communities. This study uses advances …

Teletherapy Modality And Subsequent Observer Perceptions Of Therapists’ Alliance, Credibility And Empathy, Selena Wood

Because of advances in technology and social-distancing guidelines related to COVID-19, teletherapy has become increasingly common and likely to remain an option for those seeking treatment. Research comparing in-person therapy to teletherapy exists, but far less exists concerning differences between modes of teletherapy. This study compared perceptions of psychotherapists in video- and text-based teletherapy. Young adult participants (n =384) were randomly assigned to view either a video- or text-based therapy session involving either issues with weight or family problems. The participants then rated the therapeutic alliance, perceived empathy of the therapist, and credibility of the treatment. Results indicated that participants …

Calorie restriction (CR) has been widely studied for its health benefits, including metabolic improvement and lifespan extension. However, the implications of a calorie-restricted high-fat diet (CR-HFD) on immune cell composition and gut microbiota remain poorly understood. This study investigated if a CR-HFD would improve glucose homeostasis, alter immune cell composition, and alter the levels of Akkermansia muciniphila, a gut commensal bacterium known for its association with metabolic health. Fifteen male C57BL/6 mice were assigned to either a standard Chow diet ad libitum, a 45% fat diet ad libitum (HF), or a calorie-restricted high-fat (CR) diet. This qualitative study explores the roles and responsibilities of school counselors, focusing on their collaboration with administrators in supporting Black students. The research aims to clarify administrator perceptions of counselors, examine systemic barriers to their collaboration, and assess institutional policies that influence equity-driven counseling practices. The study addresses three key research questions: (1) How do school counselors interpret their experiences related to power dynamics with administrators while advocating for Black students?
