Many boards use resin that is harmful to the environment through its curing and sanding process as it releases harmful chemicals into the air. They also use foams that release harmful chemicals into the air when they are produced, and they also do not break down when the board is disposed of. Overall, surfboards when produced using resin and foam are harmful for the environment from start to finish.

Trematoda is a class of flatworms and it encompasses approximately 20,000 species. Trematoda has two subclasses, Digenea and Aspedogastria. The families observed in this study were Echinostomatidae and Strigeidae from the subclass Digenea. Trematoda can be found in most species of animals, usually ingested from their food source. The Trematodes in this study were collected from three different duck species including Aythya affinis (Lesser Scaup,) Anas acuta (Pintail,) and Aix sponsa (Wood Duck) donated by hunters between 2023 and 2024. Scrappie Jackie is my senior capstone project where I take thrifted fabrics and transform them into unique, one-of-a-kind garments. I started this journey with no prior sewing experience, but through trial, error, and plenty of learning, I've developed a process that allows me to give new life to old clothing.

The core idea behind Scrappie Jackie is simple: I use donated clothing to create something new. This process promotes sustainability by upcycling fabrics that would otherwise go to waste, instead of contributing to the fast fashion cycle. What this language and many other indigenous languages need are literacy curricula and materials to help speakers of this language learn to read and write in their first language. Research has demonstrated that students who learn to read and write in their home language will be more successful when it comes to learning to read and write in the language that is dominant in society (in this case, Spanish in Mexico). The purpose of the study was to evaluate differences in sign tracking behavior between Sprague Dawley and Long Evans lab rats. Sign tracking ultimately reflects the degree of impulsivity often modeled in addiction related research. Data collection for sign tracking included three types of data, total number of signtracking behaviors observed, latency scores for sign tracking behaviors, and sign tracking probability scores. Sign tracking latency times and probability scores displayed statistically significant results when comparing the two strains. However, the data regarding the total number of sign tracking interactions with the conditioned stimulus did not come back as statistically significant. …

Previous studies demonstrate that mental health issues are often under-recognized in males, and there are barriers to seeking help that may prevent men from getting necessary mental health treatment. Therefore, this study aims to examine how people perceive psychological distress in those with different genders and mental health disorders. Our sample consisted of around 250 participants who are attending Winona State University at the undergraduate level. In our survey, participants were presented with multiple vignettes of individuals showing symptoms of different mental health disorders, e.g. substance use disorder or social anxiety, for which the character gender was randomized. Purpose:  An extensive literature review indicates a gap in understanding how prior direct patient care experience affects undergraduate nursing students’ anxiety and self-confidence during their program. The purpose of this project was to examine the impact of prior direct patient care experience on undergraduate nursing students’ anxiety and self-confidence while in an undergraduate nursing program.  

Participants: A total of 294 undergraduate nursing students were surveyed using Qualtrics. Students were from terms one, two, three, and four in the Winona and Rochester nursing program allowing for a population of diverse backgrounds.

NAT64 is increasingly deployed as a solution to this problem. As a result, it becomes increasingly important that the deployment of NAT64 technologies is easy and performant. Purpose: This study examined differences in the hamstring-to-quadriceps strength ratio (H:Q) between dominant and non-dominant legs in collegiate women soccer athletes. Methods: Eleven NCAA Division I female soccer players participated; one was excluded due to equipment malfunction. Following a standardized warm-up, athletes completed unilateral isokinetic knee extension and flexion on an isokinetic dynamometer at 60°/s, 180°/s, and 300°/s. For each leg and velocity, athletes performed three submaximal trials followed by five maximal effort repetitions, with 60 seconds of rest between velocities. A two-way repeated measures ANOVA was conducted to assess differences in H:Q ratios between the limbs across velocities. Results: …

Crystal cells, a subset of Drosophila melanogaster hemocytes, are important for melanization, a crucial immune response. While the genetic regulation of crystal cell develop remains incompletely understood, this study investigates the functions of five candidate genes: ACXB, ACXA, Gp210, CG4390, and Cyp4s3; identidied through previous genome-wide association studies. Using the Gal4/UAS system along with RNA interference (RNAi), we exclusively knocked down each gene in third instar larvae and quantified crystal cell populations following heat shock-induced melanization. Our results imply that the knockdown of ACXB and ACXA significantly increased crystal cell counts in both sexes, suggesting these genes either act as …

Over the last several years libraries in the United States have dealt with an increasing number of book challenges and calls for censorship of materials. The challenges and calls for censorship are no longer only from library patrons, but now include national organizations and even local and state legislators. Some of these actions have moved to criminalize librarians and curtail first amendment rights. Due to this new climate, it is important to examine the effect these culture wars have on library collection development decisions. This quantitative study seeks to answer that question with a nationwide survey of library professionals.

Over the course of 16 weeks, three genotypes of Setaria viridis, two of which display dwarfism and one wildtype, were subjected to 100 micromole solution of gibberellic acid. This was done in order to identify how the height of dwarf mutant millets would change in reaction to gibberellic acid. A total of 216 plants were looked at. 72 of each genotype were used and split between two different treatments, one with gibberellic acid and one without.

Romance scams are a growing type of cybercrime in which perpetrators develop and exploit fraudulent romantic relationships with victims to obtain financial resources. These schemes cause substantial economic and psychological damage, yet they are significantly underreported. Official 2022 reports indicate only \$1.3 billion lost to romance scams in the US, but the true financial toll is likely much higher.

Using survey data from 366 victims, this study examines the financial and psychological toll of romance scams, reporting patterns, obstacles to seeking help, and victims' perceptions of received help. Most of the victims (60.9\%) did not seek help from any source, …
