Based on the personal and professional experience with college students at a Protestant Christian university, the researchers designed a research study that explores how emerging adults who have disaffiliated from a Christian tradition understand faith, articulate why they are “done” with the church, and want to receive spiritual care. This article is part one of a two-part exploration of the results of this study, which triangulates data points for a deep understanding of emerging adults who are “done” with church. Children’s ministry at a diverse church requires intentional pursuit of a multicultural and inclusive perspective. Without it, the gospel message is portrayed through a White, Eurocentric lens which, unintentionally, creates a barrier in the spiritual formation of children. This paper discusses the theological and sociological constructs that served as the catalyst for this project intervention, developed in the context of North Atlanta Church of Christ. Additionally, this project intervention produced a curriculum to be used with children’s ministry volunteers as they seek to embody an ethnorelative lens. This article contends that the church’s call to embrace diversity and creative contextualization are essential to its faithfulness to the gospel. The church flourishes through varied expressions of Christian discipleship shaped by cultural contexts, and rather than striving for uniformity, it should embrace this multiplicity as a reflection of God’s nature and mission. By engaging different ecclesial traditions with appreciation, Christian communities can foster unity amid diversity, engage opportunities for growth, and enrich their witness. This project attempts to improve the awareness of our program, Improve Your Tomorrow, to more schools, communities and parents. With Improve Your Tomorrow, we work to enhance the chances of young men of color of getting into college and furthering their education. The program addresses the systemic barriers and opportunity gaps that often limit educational access for underrepresented groups particularly in underserved communities. This initiative, Fostering Environmental Sustainability, developed through our service with Public Health Advocates, is all about raising awareness and getting the people of Stockton, especially our young adults, involved in addressing important environmental and community issues. By teaching youth about the challenges we face today, we aim to provide them with the tools to make a real difference and become leaders who take meaningful action. Our service site, Improve Your Tomorrow, is dedicated to creating a future where young men of color are overrepresented in higher education and underrepresented in the criminal justice system. In contributing our part to seeing this mission through, we have explored the systemic barriers that make college inaccessible to this demographic of students. Based on our experiences working with primarily African American and Hispanic students at Improve Your Tomorrow, we have observed firsthand the challenges they face in navigating high school and pursuing higher education. This project consisted of two aspects. Assisting the teachers with an integral aspect of their curriculum and informing the students that attending University is more than attending lectures and exams. With a combination of detailed presentations and interactive activities, the session targeted to spark future career pathways and higher education. We created a STEM Club at an elementary after-school program to provide students with an alternative activity to promote student engagement and spark an interest in the STEM fields. Students in grades 1-6 had the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities that included engineering challenges and science experiments. Feedback from students and staff suggested a great deal of enthusiasm for experiments and the STEM field itself. The project successfully fostered interest in young learners for STEM subjects.

Increasing the engagement of K-2 students in the Parklane Elementary, Bridge after school program, can be a difficult task. By blending structured learning with creative expression, this project enhances language development, social collaboration, and provides young students with a fun yet mentally stimulating activity. Introducing K-2 students to collaborative storybook creation fosters teamwork, creativity, and engagement. Through a one-word-at-a-time storytelling game, students collaboratively build unique narratives, encouraging active participation and imaginative thinking. During Bridge, which is the after-school program at Ansel Adams Elementary School, a K-6 school, there is an hour when students have time to do their work. Many of the students attending Bridge struggle in math and have a hard time doing their homework during the hour. As a baseline of measurement, we gave the students an appropriate mathematical assessment to identify areas of improvement and tracked their scores. The College Corps Pen Pals Program is dedicated to creating genuine connections between College Corps Fellows and students at Creekside Elementary School. Through the simple yet powerful act of writing letters, we aim to help young learners boost their literacy skills, gain confidence, and succeed academically. As mentors, College Corps Fellows engage with students through regular letter exchanges, offering encouragement and feedback. In our after-school tutoring program, we set out to create a series of educational games that make learning exciting, interactive, and engaging for our 3th through 5th graders. In Stockton, local organizations such as St. Mary’s Community Services work to combat homelessness by addressing challenges and improving their clients’ unique circumstances. Donations from the community are one of the most fundamental elements at St. Mary’s, as they help ensure clients receive adequate resources. However, the hygiene departments often experience deficiencies in essential items. These items include sports bras, tank tops, underwear, and belts. The goal of my donation drive was to reduce the deficiency of these frequently requested items.

Art has the power to inspire, heal, and connect us to history. At our site LodiUSD Clairmont Elementary School, we implemented an art club for the third grade group during enrichment hours. We wanted to give students a creative outlet beyond their usual activities while incorporating art history into our planned art activities.
