Idle-Triggered Curiosity Engine For Ai Agents, Gustavo Matthew Assuncao

Autonomous, reactive AI agents — chat assistants, cognitive personas, and tool-using agents driven by a perceive–reason–act loop — sit idle whenever no message, task, or event is pending. That idle time wastes provisioned compute (GPU/CPU and a held model context) and, more importantly, forfeits opportunities for the agent to do useful proactive work: revisiting stale goals, summarizing accumulated context, learning a new skill, or surfacing a forgotten follow-up. Naively filling idle time with background activity is dangerous: undisciplined background tasks compete with reactive work, repeat themselves, and fire when their preconditions are not met.

Per-agent and per-tenant large-language-model (LLM) spend is hard to predict, attribute, and govern. The prevailing industry practice is post-hoc observation: token meters, billing exports, and span-level cost-attribution dashboards report what was spent after it was spent. The cost figure, however, never re-enters the agent's own decision loop. As a consequence the agent continues to select the same expensive model and the same long context until a hard spend cap trips, at which point the agent stops abruptly — a cost cliff rather than graceful degradation.

An autonomous agent backed by a large language model (LLM) frequently receives inputs in bursts: two hundred emails delivered at once, a flood of webhook events, a queue of chat messages that arrived during a network partition. The dominant cost in processing such a burst is triage — the act of classifying each input into a type and a priority so the agent knows what to do with it. When triage itself invokes the LLM, a burst of N inputs produces N LLM calls before any useful work begins, a thundering-herd that spikes token spend and latency in lock-step with …

Retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines increasingly insert a language-model (LLM) re-ranking stage between candidate retrieval and answer synthesis, because LLM re-rankers materially improve the ordering of retrieved passages. But LLM re-rankers are slow, costly, rate-limited, and intermittently unavailable. The naive integration — retrieve, then await the LLM re-ranker, then return — promotes the slow, failure-prone stage onto the critical path. End-to-end retrieval latency, availability, and cost all become hostage to the LLM provider: one provider timeout or one tripped spend cap converts a sub-100 ms retrieval into a multi-second failure or an outage.

An AI agent that converses with the same person across several messaging providers — WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, Discord — conventionally keeps one message history per provider. When a contact moves between channels the agent loses continuity: the earlier exchange is in another store, behind another code path, keyed by another identity. The two common remedies both fail: a table-per-provider design forces a schema migration every time a new channel is onboarded, and a lowest-common-denominator schema discards the provider-specific fields (Discord guild id, WhatsApp template id, Telegram thread id) that the agent later needs.

AI agents acting on a user's behalf — sending email, posting chat replies, creating tasks, calling tools, delegating to sub-agents — must decide, for each action, whether to act autonomously, escalate for a quick check, or hold for full human review. The prevailing mechanism is a single static confidence threshold ("auto-send if confidence > 0.8"), hand-tuned by operators. A single threshold is brittle: it cannot distinguish a low-stakes chat reply from a high-stakes external email; it does not adapt as the agent demonstrates competence (or begins to fail); and it forces every action type through one gate.

In 1981, Seamus Heaney discussed the role of poetry as “more a mode for grief than grievance” (407). This essay is concerned with how Heaney used poetry to grieve suffering, death, and loss, especially within the context of “The Troubles” in Ireland from roughly 1965 to 1998. To better understand Heaney’s poetry, this essay will explore three elegies, “Casualty,” “The Strand at Lough Beg,” and “In Memoriam Francis Ledwidge.” These three grieving poems examine different facets of both the elegy and Irish history and conflict. Transition-focused instruction is a critical component of special education services intended to prepare students with disabilities for postsecondary education, employment, and independent living. Although federal legislation such as the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) requires transition planning beginning in secondary school, prior research indicates that many special education teachers feel inadequately prepared to implement transition-focused instruction effectively. Biofuel-based combustion synthesis (BCS) processes offer low-temperature, low-carbon routes to lime and clinker production. However, they involve tightly coupled interactions between heat transfer, gas flow, and sequential solid-state reactions within reactive pellets. Experiments typically provide surface temperature evolution and final phase assemblages but give limited insight into the conversion process and the interaction between composition and process conditions. A coupled transport-reaction framework is developed here to resolve this limitation─the synthesis of β-C2S (belite), a major cementing phase, serving as an example. Ross Thompson was awarded the ORCA in 2000. He was born in 1954 in Madison, Wisconsin. He traveled nearly 2000 miles west to earn a bachelor’s in psychology magna cum laude from Occidental College in Los Angeles. Then, he traveled east over 2200 miles to earn a master’s and doctorate in psychology at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. In 1981, he joined the University of Nebraska-Lincoln as an assistant professor of psychology and rose quickly through the ranks while studying childhood emotional development. In 2003, three years after earning the ORCA, Ross left UNL to join the psychology …

Little is known about many of the 52 crayfish species in Texas. This thesis investigates physiological tolerances of three species endemic to the Jackson Vale ecoregion of Southeast Texas, the Bastrop crayfish (Procambarus texanus), Nueces crayfish (Procambarus nueces), and the Fayette’s crayfish (Procambarus fayettei) as well as the White River crayfish (Procambarus acutus), which is ubiquitous throughout East Texas. Thermal, hypoxia, and acidity tolerances were tested on wild caught individuals through laboratory assays. Findings from this study will inform wildlife managers of future conservation strategies relating to these endemic species.

Cervical insufficiency [CI] has traditionally been defined as painless cervical dilation resulting in recurrent second-trimester pregnancy loss in the absence of labor or placental pathology. Definitions from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists emphasize historical clinical presentation. However, contemporary obstetrics relies increasingly on ultrasound-based cervical length surveillance and evidence-based cerclage indications rather than retrospective diagnosis. The objective of the review was to propose a definition of cervical insufficiency aligned with current evidence-based indications for mechanical prevention of preterm birth, i.e. cervical cerclage. INTRODUCTION: This scoping review examined existing interventions designed to promote and educate about HPV vaccination in the league of Arab states (LAS).

METHODS: Following PRISMA-ScR guidelines and using a PICOS-informed approach, a comprehensive search was conducted across 16 databases to identify peer-reviewed intervention studies published between 2010 and August 2025.

RESULTS: Twenty-two studies met the inclusion criteria. Most interventions originated from Egypt and Saudi Arabia and were delivered in academic or clinical settings using short, didactic, one-group pre-post designs. Only a few studies incorporated behavioral theories, digital modalities, or multi-component strategies. Nearly all studies reported short-term improvements in HPV-related knowledge …

A method for synthesizing a fuzzy compensating element from the static characteristic of a nonlinear plant is presented. The method transforms the characteristic into a rotated coordinate system, identifies zero crossings and local extreme, maps the characteristic points back to the original coordinates, and uses them to determine the antecedent membership functions and singleton consequents of a zero-order Sugeno inference system. Unlike heuristic rule tuning, the proposed procedure derives the rule base directly from the geometry of the nonlinear characteristic. This article addresses the problem of managing multi-agent robotic systems using artificial intelligence technologies. A hybrid model combining the Vision-Language-Action (VLA) architecture with the Multi-Agent Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (MADDPG) algorithm is proposed for the synergetic control of a group of robots. The model is built on the Centralized Training with Decentralized Execution (CTDE) principle, with a Social-Force component incorporated into the reward function to automatically maintain a safe distance between agents.
