Religious Identity, Linked Fate, And Political Ideology: Explaining Civil Rights Philanthropy Among Muslim And Jewish Americans, Rafeel Wasif, Afshan Paarlberg, Shariq Siddiqui, David King

Public Administration Faculty Publications and Presentations

Social identity theory predicts that individuals prefer to give to people with the same identity as themselves. However, individuals have multiple identities that interact simultaneously. For instance, religion is an essential identity for many individuals, particularly those from racialized minority groups, such as Muslims and Jews, who are often discriminated against due to these identities. Moreover, individuals like to support faith-based causes. However, they may also feel that they have a linked fate identity, where they perceive a commonality with other persecuted minorities due to similar experiences of discrimination. Moreover, political ideology is another vital identity marker for many individuals. …

Publications

Submergence poses a deleterious threat to plant development and the agricultural production of Brassica napus (B. napus), an important worldwide oil crop. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying submergence tolerance in B. napus remain elusive. Here, through a genome-wide association study, we identify a SOMATIC EMBRYOGENESIS RECEPTOR-LIKE KINASE, BKK1/BAK7, which is crucial for plant survival after submergence stress. Submergence rapidly activates the expression of BAK7 and induces the accumulation of its kinase domain in the nucleus. BAK7 interacts with and phosphorylates class I TEOSINTE BRANCHED1, CYCLOIDEA, PROLIFERATING CELL FACTOR 1 and 2 (TCP) transcription factor TCP21, thereby stabilizing it and modulating …

All Decisions

In a non-payment proceeding, the court granted the tenant's motion for leave to amend her answer and for discovery. The court held that the landlord failed to prove prejudice or that the amendments were without merit, especially since the tenant was previously pro-se. The court granted discovery on the tenant's fraudulent deregulation and rent overcharge counterclaim, finding a "totality of the circumstances" indicating a fraudulent scheme. This conclusion was supported by a 140% rent increase from the last registered rent-stabilized tenant, a gap in registrations, an unexplained re-entry into rent stabilization, and a post-HSTPA rent increase of over 20%.

Tweaking Ml-Kem (Kyber) And Ml-Dsa (Dilithium), Kumar Rahul

Master’s Dissertations

Lattice-based cryptography is the use of conjectured hard problems on point lattices in Rn as the foundation for secure cryptographic systems. Attractive features of lattice cryptography include apparent resistance to quantum attacks (in contrast with most number-theoretic cryptography), high asymptotic efficiency and parallelism, security under worst-case intractability assumptions, and solutions to long-standing open problems in cryptography. This work surveys the structure, security, and optimization potential of two leading lattice-based cryptographic schemes: ML-KEM (Kyber) and ML-DSA (Dilithium). Special attention is given to their applicability in government-oriented post-quantum cryptographic systems, focusing on performance, implementation considerations, and resilience against known quantum threats. Species concepts are well established and apply across diverse groups of organisms; however, there is no consensus on what defines higher taxonomic groups. The genus rank is important to taxonomists because it comprises part of the scientific name of an organism. A consistent and biologically meaningful method for determining generic status is needed for taxonomic stability and utility. Lasiurine bats are a group for which there is disagreement on how many genera to recognize. Some authors argue for splitting this group into three genera based on morphology, genetic divergence, and time of divergence; others argue that a single genus should …

Derrida's Religious Secret, Dylan Joseph Scott Jun 2025

Derrida's Religious Secret, Dylan Joseph Scott

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Derrida rethought the metaphysics of presence by deconstructing or rereading texts as literature according to the nonpresent play of différance. I present Derrida’s absolute secret as a distinct figure of nonpresence nowhere hidden and unknowable in principle. This absolute secret is reflected in the secret of literature: literature does not mean to say anything [ne pas vouloir dire]. It is also reflected in the secret of responsibility: every other (one) is every (bit) other [tout autre est tout autre]; one is absolutely responsible, in secret, to every other wholly other in secret. As figures of the nonpresent absolute secret, these …
