Counseling Program Advisory Committees: A Structural Recommendation, Allison K. Arnekrans, Ellen Armbruster, Leslie Neyland-Brown, Robin Dufresne

Journal of Counselor Preparation and Supervision

The 2024 CACREP accreditation standards now require counseling programs to assemble a program advisory committee to solicit feedback from stakeholders. While many programs have opted to establish advisory committees despite the lack of a requirement in the past, the inclusion of this new standard challenges programs to become more intentional and structured. The history and purpose of advisory committees will be reviewed, and a proposed structure is offered as a recommendation for programs.

Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health (IECMH) is a culturally informed, relationally focused area of clinical expertise which addresses the social-emotional needs of very young children and their families. At this time, although counselors are often providers of this type of clinical work, very little training exists in counselor education programs. This brief explores the integration of this work into counselor education by describing a seamless integration of the IECMH concepts into already existing course work.

Introduction: According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and American Heart Association (AHA), cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. This phenomenon disproportionally affects the African American population, who have a 31% higher mortality rate than non-Hispanic Caucasian individuals. A retrospective review of PCSK-9 medication use, specifically in a patient population that had minimal representation in the large, landmark clinical trials, can lead to better understanding about the therapeutic potential in cardiovascular disease reduction and patient outcomes attributed to medication use. Background: Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS) is a rare, debilitating autoimmune neurological disorder characterized by progressive muscle rigidity, painful spasms, and gait disturbances. It is strongly associated with autoantibodies against glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD), leading to impaired GABAergic neurotransmission. SPS exists on a spectrum, with both classical and paraneoplastic variants, the latter often linked to malignancies such as breast cancer.

Methods: This review synthesizes current literature on the pathophysiology, clinical presentation, diagnostic criteria, and treatment modalities of SPS. We examine emerging therapies, including immunomodulatory approaches and antibody-targeted interventions, to address the heterogeneity of disease progression and treatment response.

This pilot study evaluated a previously untested cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) intervention designed specifically to treat opioid use disorder (OUD). Adults (N = 20) taking medication for OUD were recruited from a public health organization providing harm reduction and treatment services to people who use drugs in Philadelphia. Outcomes collected at baseline and 12 weeks included urinalysis-confirmed use of illicit drugs and surveys of mood (Patient Health Questionnaire-9; Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7), recovery capital (Brief Assessment of Recovery Capital-10), and cravings (Brief Substance Craving Scale). Primary care patients often present with mental and behavioral health concerns, such as depression or insomnia, leaving medical teams scrambling. Displaying content on OST devices is difficult because the digital content is overlaid on the real-world environment, which can have dynamic and non-uniform lighting and backgrounds. This can make the displayed content appear washed out, transparent, or invisible, especially in bright environments. This disclosure describes the use of a camera sensor on a head-mounted device to capture an image of the real-world background in the user's field of view and using the image to calculate the non-uniformity of the background. This report presents a comprehensive, data-driven analysis of community health across South Carolina’s Pee Dee region, encompassing Florence, Darlington, Chesterfield, Marlboro, Marion, and Dillon Counties. Using tract-level data from CDC PLACES, the U.S. Census, and the National Provider Identifier registry, it assesses chronic health conditions, health behaviors, and social determinants of health. The analysis incorporates the South Carolina Healthy Communities Index (SCHCI) and a Suitability Analysis to identify the region’s most disadvantaged communities. The findings highlight persistent disparities, particularly in rural counties, where high rates of poverty, chronic disease, and unmet basic needs intersect with limited access to care. Despite …

Background: Drug databases currently do not provide dosing guidance for sulbactam-durlobactam in continuous renal replacement therapy. Herein, we present the first in vivo pharmacokinetic (PK) evaluation of sulbactam-durlobactam during continuous venovenous hemofiltration (CVVH) in a patient with carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii-calcoaceticus complex (CRAB) bacteremia and ventilator-associated bacterial pneumonia (VABP). Methods: A 59-year-old critically ill patient (body mass index 60 kg/m2) required CVVH and developed CRAB bacteremia secondary to VABP. Sulbactam-durlobactam 2 g every 4 h infused over 3 h was initiated based on previous ex vivo data and the effluent rate of 6 L/h. Stepto’s “Afro-American narrative” tradition, Chapter One presents a biography of Hughes from his birth in 1902 until he came under the patronage of Charlotte Osgood Mason in 1927. Chapter One also addresses the aesthetic expectations of the Harlem Renaissance and the extent to which Hughes either met or failed to meet those expectations. The expansion of intra-muscular adipose tissue (IMAT) between myofibers and epi-muscular adipose tissue (EMAT) outside of the muscle boundary accompanies numerous pathologies including diabetes, muscular dystrophy, and aging. IMAT and EMAT are anatomically juxtaposed to myofibers. Some evidence supports that IMAT and EMAT impede muscle function. This is potentially due to paracrine factors that are secreted by IMAT/EMAT. This paper explores accessibility for disabled people in ceramics, drawing upon my personal experiences as a disabled potter at Artistry Community Arts Center in Vermont. I begin with a discussion of how the process of creating pottery can be made more accessible, with a list of adaptable tools I have discovered and anecdotes about how pottery instructors can adapt their teaching styles to different needs. I then explore different examples of adaptive pottery made specifically for disabled people, including some of my own work. [Objective ] The effects of the transcription regulation system on menaquinone- 7 (MK- 7) production in Bacillus subtilis (B.subtilis ) 168 were studied by excavating transcription regulators.[Method ] With the signal molecule PhrG pentapeptide,RapG,and the transcription regulator DegU,a PhrG-RapG-DegU regulatory system was successfully constructed in B.subtilis 168 to fine-tune the expression of key genes,so that the expression of key genes in the MK- 7 synthesis pathway can respond to the changes in cell density.[Result ] The production of MK- 7 in strain BS 06 reached 102.47 mg/L through this system.[Conclusion ] Fine tuning of quorum sensing can effectively improve the …
