Differences in immune profiles of children and adults with COVID-19 have been previously described. However, no systematic studies have been reported from infants hospitalized with severe disease. We applied a multidimensional approach to decipher the immune responses of SARS-CoV-2 infected infants (n = 26; 10 subacute, 11 moderate and 5 severe disease; median age = 1.6 months) and matched controls (n = 14; median age = 2 months). Single cell (scRNA-seq) profiling of PBMCs revealed substantial alterations in cell composition in SARS-CoV-2 infected infants; with most cell-types switching to an interferon-stimulated gene (ISG^hi) state including: (i) …

Hispanic students at Hispanic Majority Institutions (HMIs) experience unique social comparison processes that shape their academic self-concept, belonging, and stress levels. While research has examined Hispanic students as minorities in predominantly White institutions, studies on their experiences at HMIs remain limited. This study explored whether stress mediated the relationship between social comparison orientation (SCO) and two dimensions of belonging—acceptance/rejection and school membership—among Hispanic undergraduates (N = 261). Participants completed an online survey with measures of SCO, academic self-concept, belonging, school membership, and stress. Results indicated that stress fully mediated the relationship between SCO and rejection/exclusion but not acceptance/inclusion or …

Students with autism spectrum disorder face several challenges in modern education. A tremendous challenge for students with autism is being a proficient reader. This is especially true for students with autism in Level IV educational facilities. This study examined the effectiveness of Sound Partners, a systematic phonics intervention, with two students with autism in a Level IV setting. The two students demonstrated significant deficits in foundational reading skills despite being in fourth and seventh grades.
