Design Of A Subthreshold Cmos Inverter-Based Amplifier For Low-Noise And Low-Power Applications, Landon Alexander Schmucker May 2025

Design Of A Subthreshold Cmos Inverter-Based Amplifier For Low-Noise And Low-Power Applications, Landon Alexander Schmucker

Electrical and Computer Engineering ETDs

Amplification is a fundamental function in most analog circuits. There is a fast-growing demand for low-power, low-noise, and high-gain amplifiers. Modern semiconductor processes are increasingly optimized for digital applications, which has introduced new challenges in analog design. To address these challenges, analog designers have investigated replacing conventional analog circuits with digital implementations. One promising application is the typical CMOS inverter as an amplifier.

This research presents a CMOS inverter-based amplifier with feedback designed to achieve low power consumption, low input noise, and high gain. Unlike typical CMOS inverter-based amplifiers, this topology has two distinctive features: (1) it uses a MOSFET …

Justifying Intervention By Shaping Perception: A Framing Analysis Of United States Propaganda During The 1953 Iranian Coup D’État, Dorreen Darya-Bari May 2025

Justifying Intervention By Shaping Perception: A Framing Analysis Of United States Propaganda During The 1953 Iranian Coup D’État, Dorreen Darya-Bari

Undergraduate Honors Theses

This thesis examines how major United States newspapers framed the 1953 Iranian Coup, which overthrew democratically elected Prime Minister Mohammad Mossadegh. During the Cold War, the U.S. frequently violated international law, infringing on the sovereignty of foreign nations by orchestrating coups under the guise of combating communist threats to protect strategic interests. The 1953 CIA-backed coup in Iran followed this pattern. This research examines how U.S. media shaped public perception to justify intervention, focusing on the question: What does the framing of the 1953 Iranian Coup d’État in U.S. print media reveal about U.S. interests and their influence on media …

Sacred Seeds: The Transmission Of Knowledge Seen Through Aztec Religionand Agriculture, Ian S. Hohsfield May 2025

Sacred Seeds: The Transmission Of Knowledge Seen Through Aztec Religionand Agriculture, Ian S. Hohsfield

Undergraduate Honors Theses

The integration of religion and agriculture was a cornerstone of Aztec civilization, deeply influencing societal practices and knowledge systems. Scholars have long recognized the importance of religious rituals in ensuring agricultural success; however, the specific methods by which agricultural knowledge was transmitted within religious contexts—and how these methods may have contributed to knowledge gaps—remain underexplored. This thesis investigates the relationship between Aztec religious practices and the transmission of agricultural knowledge, focusing on how the methods of knowledge transmission influenced agricultural expertise and led to potential gaps. It does so by analyzing primary sources such as the Florentine Codex and the …

Machine Learning-Driven Optimization Of Piezoelectric Energy Harvesters For Low-Frequency Applications, Kyrillos Selim, Login Moustafa, Sameh O. Abdellatif May 2025

Machine Learning-Driven Optimization Of Piezoelectric Energy Harvesters For Low-Frequency Applications, Kyrillos Selim, Login Moustafa, Sameh O. Abdellatif

Electrical Engineering

To enhance energy harvesting efficiency, this paper explores the optimization of a cantilever-based piezoelectric energy harvester by integrating advanced machine learning (ML) methodologies. Leveraging a meticulously trained model on data sourced from a sophisticated two-dimension (2D) COMSOL Multiphysics numerical simulation, the study focuses on the critical input parameters, particularly the dimensions of the piezoelectric thin film. Through extensive simulations, the analysis delves into power density extraction and resonance frequency for various configurations. The culmination of rigorous simulations and analysis has led to the identification of an optimal design configuration for the cantilever piezoelectric energy harvester, characterized by a length of …

Simulation Needs For Mid-Level Skills In General And Cardiothoracic Surgery, Katelyn Ward, M Yassin, J Bui, D Lee, R Reddy May 2025

Simulation Needs For Mid-Level Skills In General And Cardiothoracic Surgery, Katelyn Ward, M Yassin, J Bui, D Lee, R Reddy

Conference Presentation Abstracts

Objective: As the integrated cardiothoracic (I6) residency reaches maturity, it is important to identify core mid-level surgical skills that are valued within this framework in order to target these skills for development and improve competency and confidence. We aim to understand how I6 skill needs diverge from those traditionally emphasized in general surgery training, enabling a tailored approach to simulation-based education that aligns with evolving educational models. Methods: Surveys were distributed to general surgery (GS) and cardiothoracic (CT) faculty and residents at a single academic center. Respondents reported on current simulation perceptions and ranked open mid-level resident surgical skills that …

A Design Decision Support Tool To Visualise Embodied Carbon At Early Design Stage, Malachy Mathews Dr, Killian Collins May 2025

A Design Decision Support Tool To Visualise Embodied Carbon At Early Design Stage, Malachy Mathews Dr, Killian Collins

Conference Papers

As designers increasingly recognise the crucial role of the built environment in combating climate change, the use of Building Information Modelling (BIM) technology can become pivotal. BIM offers a transformative approach to design and construction processes through digital models and now data visualisation. With the urgency of addressing embodied carbon emissions in construction, this research aims to develop an automated BIM workflow that enables designers to visualise and mitigate the environmental impact of material selection within domestic construction projects in Ireland and the UK, aligning with national targets for emissions reduction by 2030. Using comprehensive data mapping and digital visualisation …

Investigating The Microbial Communities In Freshwaters Of Northern Sweden, Maizy Wilcox May 2025

Investigating The Microbial Communities In Freshwaters Of Northern Sweden, Maizy Wilcox

Undergraduate University Honors Capstones

Climate change is shifting the stability of sensitive ecosystems in the Arctic region due to global warming, with widespread impacts on permafrost regions, including the Stordalen Mire region of Sweden. Due to climate change, the Stordalen Mire is composed of thawing permafrost shifting into a wetland (V onk et al., 2015). As permafrost thaws, the landscape transforms due to changing water environmental conditions, causing lower pH changes and higher temperatures in the water, impacting the underlying soil chemistry and biology, vegetation, and microbial communities (Webb et al., 2022). The increased temperature can enhance methanogenic microbial growth by expanding the groundwater …

Notetaking Reimagined: The Impact Of Combining Text And Visuals For Effective Learning, Sarah J. Mussetter May 2025

Notetaking Reimagined: The Impact Of Combining Text And Visuals For Effective Learning, Sarah J. Mussetter

Art 895 Research Papers

This Mixed-Methods Narrative Case Study examines previous research on the effects of visual/ illustrative notes and their effect on knowledge coding, retention, and retrieval processes. It adds to current research in the form of a case study of a high school advanced photography course in Livingston, MT and the effect that adding visuals to notetaking practices affects student performance and memory throughout the semester. This study also proposes a method of introduction to visual notetaking that can be implemented in classrooms regardless of subject matter.
