In Healthy Christian Minds, Elmer Thiessen offers a thought-provoking exploration of intellectual virtues and vices, challenging readers to cultivate wisdom, humility, and principled openness in an age of division. While not written specifically for educators, this book holds deep relevance for those shaping minds inside and outside the classroom. Thiessen argues that true intellectual excellence is not just about acquiring knowledge but about developing character; an idea that resonates with those committed to fostering critical thinking and integrity in their students. Drawing from theology and philosophy, he examines the dangers of closed-mindedness and arrogance while encouraging a love of truth …

Scenes From A Sabbatical: Narratives Of School Leadership, Albert Boerema Jun 2025

Scenes From A Sabbatical: Narratives Of School Leadership, Albert Boerema

International Christian Community of Teacher Educators Journal

School leadership is often described in terms of vision, strategy, and efficiency. However, the lived experiences of school leaders reveal a far more complex reality—one shaped by relationships, ethical dilemmas, and the daily challenges of guiding a school community. This paper presents insights from a sabbatical study in which the author observed and interviewed leaders at five schools—one public and four faith-based.Four aspects of leadership are illustrated in this essay: the emotionally charged moments, the tensions that arise between competing visions, the fragility of educational institutions, and the role of hospitality in leadership. These narratives illustrate how school leaders navigate conflict, …

Christ-Centered Reasoning: A Platform And Framework For Integrating Christian Faith Into Higher Education., Jf Jf Jun 2025

Christ-Centered Reasoning: A Platform And Framework For Integrating Christian Faith Into Higher Education., Jf Jf

International Christian Community of Teacher Educators Journal

The integration of Christian faith in higher education can be challenging, as the parameters and scope of integration are not always clear. Notably, the term ‘integration’ has been overused and/or thrown around without distinction within the Christian Liberal Arts halls of learning. Generally, no principles are provided for integration in terms of curriculum, pedagogy, or learning; hence, a clear articulation is required regarding what integration entails with respect to curricula, learning, and pedagogy. There is also an urgent need to theorize integration practically and pragmatically within higher education, particularly in relation to inquiry methodologies and discipline-specific specializations. One way to …

Teaching As A Pedagogy For Christian Faith Development: A Faith-Based Framework For Pre-Service Teachers’ Reflective Practice, Sarah Fischer Jun 2025

Teaching As A Pedagogy For Christian Faith Development: A Faith-Based Framework For Pre-Service Teachers’ Reflective Practice, Sarah Fischer

International Christian Community of Teacher Educators Journal

To prepare pre-service teachers to be high-quality educators, Christian teacher educators have the responsibility of integrating professional frameworks of teaching effectiveness and reflective practice into their programs. However, the most commonly used frameworks in the United States have inherent limitations when the specific aims of a Christian teacher education program are considered, such as their isolated construction of teacher identity, their prioritization of behavioral changes over attitudinal changes, and their conceptualization of spatial and relational boundaries. Although these tools promote professional growth, they do not adequately support pre-service teachers’ integration of professional and faith development. The goal of this essay …

Factors Affecting Integration Of The Nurse Practitioner Workforce Into Health Systems: A Delphi Consensus Study, Joshua Porat-Dahlerbruch, Rebecca Clark, Brandon Dutchess, Nancy P. Blumenthal, Moriah E. Ellen

General Submissions: Clinical Settings Materials

Research has documented the positive impact of the nurse practitioner workforce on patient and system outcomes in multiple countries. Achieving these outcomes relies on successfully integrating the workforce into the health system. Research has reported negative effects of integration barriers on the ability for nurse practitioners to improve outcomes. Barriers include scope of practice restrictions, organizational climates inconducive to nurse practitioner care, and lacking mentorship. To design efficacious policies, organizational and national policy decision-makers require knowledge of the factors affecting the integration of this human resource into care settings. No research has synthesized these factors into an easily understandable and …

A Study Of The Management Of The Herders-Farmers Conflict-Induced Internal Displacement In Nigeria, Rita Iorbo, Dick Taverishima Andzenge

Peace and Conflict Studies

The management of the herdsmen-farmers conflict-induced internal displacement in Nigeria was characterised by remote factors that affected the protection and assistance of internally displaced persons (IDPs). This qualitative study was conducted on 12 participants comprising humanitarian workers, IDPs, and lawmakers who were conversant with the persistent herdsmen-farmers conflict-induced internal displacement. The study explored the inter-connected relationship among stakeholders within the humanitarian ecosystem. It found that though the herdsmen-farmers conflict led to mass displacement, remote factors such as unwillingness of government, data challenges, the undiplomatic approach of government in the management of the displacement failed to win support of other stakeholders …

Social Capital And Protests In The United States, Carolyn Chisadza, Matthew Clance, Rangan Gupta Jun 2025

Social Capital And Protests In The United States, Carolyn Chisadza, Matthew Clance, Rangan Gupta

Peace and Conflict Studies

In the last decade we have witnessed rising protests in the United States associated with issues that form part of society’s social fabric that can either facilitate or break down collective behaviour. Rising social inequalities can cause people to no longer share the same values and force individuals to work against each other. This breakdown in social capital can be a key driver for protests as the marginalised attempt to voice their grievances. Using social capital data from the Social Capital Project and protest data from the GDELT Project for U.S counties, we find that higher social capital is negatively …

Cadential Rhetoric And Separate Agencies: Split-Voice Pacs And Their Impact On Formal Closure In The Music Of Dvořák, Xieyi (Abby) Zhang Jun 2025

Cadential Rhetoric And Separate Agencies: Split-Voice Pacs And Their Impact On Formal Closure In The Music Of Dvořák, Xieyi (Abby) Zhang

Gamut: Online Journal of the Music Theory Society of the Mid-Atlantic

This article analyzes three pieces by Dvořák that make use of a cadential device henceforth referred to as a split PAC: either the melody or the bass appears to cadence significantly before the other—often by several measures—and maintains a holding pattern until the other voice catches up. This paper begins by contextualizing split PACs within the existing formal theory of cadences. Then, using the analytical perspective of multiple agencies, this paper reads these cadential gestures as drivers of musical narrative that often have long-lasting implications for the remainder of the piece.
