This qualitative review used a convergent-parallel design to explore the perspectives of prison administrators and nonprofit reentry program providers regarding inmate rehabilitation iii and reentry services. In 2021, 76,000 inmates were pardoned due to changes in California legislation (Fritz, 2024, p. 1 ). According to a 2024 report, 89,898 inmates are residing in California State prisons- 119% over capacity (Morris, 2024, p. 1 ). Childhood myopia is a growing global public health concern. Treatments to control myopia are a priority because myopia, particularly high myopia, poses significant lifelong risks of vision loss from myopia-associated ocular pathologies. Intensive research efforts over the past two decades have led to the development of several effective strategies for controlling myopia in children: increased time outdoors, atropine eye drops, dual-focus and multifocal contact lenses, orthokeratology lenses, and specialized spectacle lenses. The rapidly increasing prevalence of myopia and its association with vision-threatening complications in later life has intensified efforts to identify treatments that can prevent the onset and slow the progression of myopia in children. These efforts have led to the development of several optical, environmental, and pharmacological myopia control treatments. Investigations of additional treatment options are ongoing and have shown great promise for clinical translation. Laser color marking produces nearly permanent, environmentally friendly, vibrant colors on surfaces. However, previous work has used high-power-density pulsed lasers to induce the physicochemical reactions for marking. Here, laser color marking on stainless steel 304 (SS304) is performed with a less expensive continuous wave (CW) laser and a power density five orders of magnitude below that previously reported by combining an electrochemical cell with a fluorescence microscope. Using a combination of optical microscopy, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and bulk electrochemistry, it is demonstrated that the laser-induced luminescence and colors are due to enrichment (32 ± 9% increase) of Cr₂O₃ in the …

Intracortical microelectrode arrays (MEAs) are devices implanted into the brain's cortex with the ability to record or stimulate neuronal activity. Unfortunately, MEAs tend to fail over chronic time points, limiting their clinical utility. Chronic failure has largely been attributed to the brain's neuroinflammatory response. Until recently, most of what was understood about the neuroinflammatory response to MEAs was learned through immunohistochemical analysis of small numbers of proteins. More recently, gene expression studies have sequenced thousands of mRNA molecules that contribute to neuroinflammation, but few studies have performed large-scale proteomic analyses. Behavioral Skills Training (BST) is an evidence-based practice appropriate for practitioners, parents, clients, and other populations. It is frequently used in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy to support and augment skill development. Parent training in ABA has been found to be beneficial, and often critical, in the progress of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). While BST is a popular method of parent training, it is unclear how effective this type of training is in comparison to the training given to a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT). This study aims to identify couple typologies regarding gender ideologies and marital power, and investigate how couple typologies relate to sociodemographic characteristics as well as rates of physical intimate partner violence (IPV). Several theoretical approaches connect marital power and gender ideologies to IPV but emphasize different couple typologies. For example, family violence perspectives suggest gender ideology mismatch is a stressor that increases the likelihood of either spouse reporting low power or engaging in physical IPV. Feminist theories add that men may use IPV to maintain patriarchal power dynamics when women deviate from traditional gender norms, emphasizing the risk of IPV …

Using a sample from China, this study examined the influence of father involvement on child outcome in early childhood in areas of internalizing problems, externalizing problems and prosocial behaviors. The participants were drawn from the larger PACIFIC project, a cross-cultural study of family processes in Asia. 479 families with a preschool or kindergarten child living in Beijing and Dalian, China were included in this study. Using multiple regression analysis, result indicated that father involvement was not significantly associated with child’s internalizing problems, externalizing problems, and prosocial behaviors. Therapeutic alliance is a key predictor of successful couple therapy outcomes. Little research has explored how therapist experience may predict its development. This study was designed to examine whether initial therapeutic alliance scores differ between couple clients of training clinics versus couple clients of community clinics, and whether the rate of change in alliance across sessions varies between these groups. Additionally, I controlled for initial relationship distress. A large class of nonlinear systems in engineering and robotics evolves on geometric manifolds, such as fixed-wing aircraft, quadrotors, etc., whose kinematic motion can be described using Lie groups, in particular SEn(3) . The existing techniques involve numerical integration methods such as Runge-Kutta integration to propagate their motion forward in time. However, these methods are approximate solutions and do not respect the geometric constraints of the nonlinear differential equation, leading to higher computational costs and numerical integration errors. The purpose of this staff education project was to improve nurses’ knowledge on burn care using an educational intervention. The project site became the children's hospital designated burn unit. Children with burns were a new patient population that the project unit had never cared for, and there was no formal training or competencies for nurses caring for these patients. This thesis investigates how religious women in mathematics construct and navigate their identities within the intersecting figured worlds of gender, religion, and mathematics. Drawing on Holland et al.’s (1998) theory of figured worlds and informed by identity theory, this study examines how these women experience, negotiate, and position their identities within these figured worlds. Through interviews with women who are simultaneously committed to religious life and mathematical scholarship, the research reveals that rather than perceiving conflict between these domains, participants often find points of integration and mutual reinforcement. Chinese Multinational Enterprises Contemporary comparative law operates across a landscape riven by protectionism, nationalism, and securitization, all of which complicate comparative law projects. Nowhere is this more evident than in the U.S-China relationship, the most important bilateral relationship in the world. Despite economic “delinking,” the U.S. and Chinese legal systems are interacting more than ever; however, how this interaction works is poorly understood. This Article proposes “adversarial comparativism” to explain this dynamic. This systematic review and meta-analysis examined the efficacy of mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs), specifically Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), in reducing anxiety symptoms in individuals with Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD). A review of the literature revealed that while GAD affects millions globally, many individuals diagnosed with GAD do not receive treatment. This review evaluated the effectiveness of MBIs using randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and non-RCTs, focusing on effect sizes, study quality, and control conditions. The central hypothesis was that MBCT would significantly reduce anxiety symptoms, particularly in comparison to inactive control groups. Meta-analytic results showed that MBSR …

Glaciers are retreating, altering alpine ecosystems and creating new proglacial lakes. Compared to lakes fed by snowpack, glacial lakes are often enriched in nutrients and suspended solids that decrease light penetration. However, the microorganisms and biogeochemical conditions within these newly formed lakes are not well characterized. We describe the microbial communities in 14 glacial lakes in Glacier National Park, MT, USA using 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing and measurements of nutrient concentrations, water clarity, and other environmental properties. Microbial communities were distinct between lakes, including those connected to the same glacier, indicating the importance of site-specific biogeochemical and physical dynamics …

PURPOSE: To describe the demographic characteristics, etiology, microbiological spectrum, and antibiotic sensitivity patterns in patients with endophthalmitis.

METHODS: This is a retrospective case series spanning from May 2012 to September 2018. All included patients were diagnosed with endophthalmitis and confirmed by laboratory tests. Data were collected on patient demographics, types of endophthalmitis, and microbiologic and medical records.

RESULTS: Nine hundred ninety-two records of patients with endophthalmitis were assessed. Of the total cases, 657 patients (66.2%) were male, whereas 335 (33.8%) were female. The mean age of the patients was 57.2 ± 22.8 years and ranged from 2 to 95 years. …

Mutual Suppression Between Mutations In The Dictyostelium Greenbeard Pathway Restores Wild-Type Development, Mariko Katoh-Kurasawa, Lena Trnovec, Peter Lehmann, Blaž Zupan, Gad Shaulsky

Background: The Dictyostelium greenbeard pathway is mediated by two polymorphic transmembrane proteins, the TgrC1 ligand and the TgrB1 receptor. These proteins mediate allorecognition, altruism, and the developmental transition to multicellularity. A genetic suppressor screen revealed activating mutations in tgrB1 and inactivating mutations in rapgapB, a regulator of the GTPase protein RapA. Inactivation of either tgrB1, tgrC1, or rapgapB leads to developmental defects, but the respective double-mutant strains rapgapB-tgrB1- and rapgapB-tgrC1- develop well and produce spores. This mutual suppression could result from inducing an alternative pathway or from restoring wild-type development, but morphological analyses alone could not resolve this question.

Disease-causing variants in synaptic function genes are a common cause of neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) and epilepsy. Here, we describe 14 individuals with de novo disruptive variants in BSN, which encodes the presynaptic protein Bassoon. To expand the phenotypic spectrum, we identified 15 additional individuals with protein-truncating variants (PTVs) from large biobanks. Clinical features were standardized using the Human Phenotype Ontology (HPO) across all 29 individuals, which revealed common clinical characteristics including epilepsy (13/29, 45%), febrile seizures (7/29, 25%), generalized tonic-clonic seizures (5/29, 17%), and focal-onset seizures (3/29, 10%).
