Veteran unemployment rose slightly overall, with notable increases among younger and mid-aged veterans, while female veterans and Black veterans saw improvements; trends continued to vary across demographic groups.

This Article examines the Supreme Court's test for treaty crime constitutionality against the gauntlet of time and application. Treaty crimes are criminal behavior violating statutes penalizing private individuals for disobeying the terms of an international treaty obligation. The current treaty crime test from Bond v. United States has produced inconsistent results resting on shaky constitutional grounds. This Article proposes a new test relying on constitutional delegations of authority and treaty drafting history to determine when a treaty crime statute violates the Tenth Amendment. Water electrolysis technologies for hydrogen production are receiving significant attention due to a drastic reduction in the cost of renewable energy sources in recent years. Though traditional alkaline and proton exchange membrane water electrolyzers are receiving the most commercial attention, the anion exchange membrane water electrolyzer (AEMEL) has the potential to be much lower in cost. AEMELs have recently shown remarkable progress in terms of performance and durability. However, they are still mostly operated with expensive platinum group metal (PGM) catalysts on both the anode and cathode. We revisit much-investigated relationships between schooling and health, focusing on schooling impacts on cognitive abilities at older ages using the Harmonized Cognition Assessment Protocol in the Health & Retirement Study (HRS) and a bounding approach that requires relatively weak assumptions. Our estimated upper bounds on the population average effects indicate potentially large causal effects of increasing schooling from primary to secondary; yet, these upper bounds are smaller than many estimates from the literature on causal schooling impacts on cognition using compulsory-schooling laws. We also cannot rule out small and null effects at this margin. We do, however, find evidence for …

The tenant claimed his failure to appear was due to his incarceration, but he provided no documentation to support this assertion. The court found that the tenant's motion papers were insufficient, consisting only of conclusory statements without evidence of a reasonable excuse or a meritorious defense. This study investigated the use of 3D printing to co-encapsulate, protect, and enhance the bioaccessibility of lutein and anthocyanins. Coaxial extrusion 3D printing in a spiral-cube geometry was utilized with lutein-loaded zein as the core material and anthocyanins-loaded corn starch paste as the shell material. The research examined various printing conditions, including starch concentrations of 10% and 11%, and printing temperatures ranging from 45 °C to 85 °C. A comprehensive analysis of the inks’ properties, such as printability, viscosity, microstructural characteristics, storage stability, and bioaccessibility of the encapsulated compounds, was conducted. In the last decade, redistricting commissions have proliferated across the United States as a means of reducing partisan gerrymandering. This article provides a comprehensive evaluation of their performance using both qualitative and quantitative analysis. Drawing on redistricting data from all fifty states between 2021 and 2024, we analyze how different commission designs affected partisan fairness, competitiveness, and adherence to traditional principles like compactness and preservation of communities of interest. Our analysis reveals that autonomous commissions with final map-drawing authority, balanced bipartisan processes with multiple non-partisan actors, and binding judicial review consistently produced redistricting plans with lower partisan bias and higher …

An anion detecting luminescent probe, Tb:DO2A-Cs124, was repurposed for use in RNA imaging. Potential RNA aptamers were identified for the molecule using Capture-SELEX and MinION sequencing. Fluorimetry data revealed these aptamers did not allow for the probe to luminesce in the presence of target RNAs due to adenosine monophosphate’s ability to quench the emission signal.

Heart Failure (HF) is a complex clinical syndrome that is defined by an inability of the heart to meet the oxygen demands of the body. Myocardial interstitial fibrosis (MIF), the diffuse overaccumulation of extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins within the cardiac interstitium, contributes to ventricular dysfunction in HF. Mechanical devices designed to alleviate left ventricular deficiencies, termed left ventricular assist devices (LVADs), provide a pump that delivers oxygenated blood to the aorta thereby decreasing hemodynamic load on the ventricle. This end-stage HF therapy alleviates symptomatic burden for HF patients, however, LVAD support does not reduce MIF in the LV, and myocardial …

We present bloom patterns as a family of radially expansive, flat-foldable, and developable origami patterns, many of which are rotationally symmetric. Bloom patterns are defined with a generalized definition and a standardized definition. A classification scheme for bloom patterns is identified, and several types of bloom patterns are analysed. Skateboarding is an everyday, out-of-class activity at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Daytona Beach (ERAU-DB) campus, serving as a means of transport and a source of social conflict and peacebuilding. Its popularity among students for mobility around campus fosters a sense of community, but its interlinkage as a source of contention and peace is poorly understood. This study employs a participatory research framework to explore how everyday skateboarding is a form of transport that intersects with conflict and peacebuilding at ERAU. Subclavian artery (SCA) aneurysms are exceedingly rare (~0.13% of peripheral aneurysms).

There are no criteria regarding size cut off for repair.

Surgery is indicated given risk of complications (thrombosis, embolization leading to CVA or UE ischemia, compression of adjacent structures).

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) interact with the target mRNAs to induce translational repression and mRNA degradation. Interestingly, miRNAs themselves can turnover rapidly when binding to a target RNA with extensive complementarity, a phenomenon called target-directed miRNA degradation (TDMD). To date, all validated TDMD "triggers" can induce miRNA degradation reside in non-coding regions of the RNA. We found that TDMD triggers placed in the 3' untranslated region (UTR) of a reporter degraded miRNAs more effectively than those in the coding sequence (CDS). Inhibiting translation of the reporter enhanced miRNA degradation by the CDS trigger, indicating that ribosome-free CDS triggers are more accessible to …

Understanding how diverse microbial taxa coexist in the human body without competitively excluding one another remains a key challenge in microbiome ecology. One proposed explanation is the colonization-persistence trade-off, where species with high colonization ability are poor persisters, and vice versa. We test for this trade-off across human associated microbial communities among many individuals and in multiple body sites using a large-scale participant-level meta-analysis of longitudinal microbiome datasets curated from the MGnify database. We applied island biogeography-based models to calculate effective colonization and persistence rates for microbial families and genera across 606 individuals over twenty-six studies. Despite growing evidence connecting obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) with cognitive impairment, cardiovascular risk, and injury, standardized screening is rarely implemented in collegiate athletics. This project aimed to assess the risk of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in college football players aged 18–25 using the STOP-BANG screening tool and to evaluate the impact of an educational intervention on the knowledge of athletic trainers. Within the interdisciplinary field of memory studies, there has been a significant push to not only identify and theorize trauma but also map out and propose ways to move through and beyond the constraints of trauma. This article will use Andrew Haigh’s 2023 film All of Us Strangers to theorize an experience that forms a redemptive foil to trauma that I term encounter.
