Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a fatal X-linked, recessive disease caused by mutations in the DMD gene encoding dystrophin, a membrane-associated protein necessary for maintaining muscle structure and function. One of the common DMD mutations is the deletion of exon 52 (Δ52), which introduces a premature stop codon in exon 53, preventing the expression of functional dystrophin protein. Patients with this mutation could benefit from skipping or reframing exon 53 to restore the dystrophin open reading frame. The TYDE programme is a college-in-school initiative which aims to develop partnerships between Technological University Dublin (TU Dublin) and local schools. It provides second-level students with an authentic experience of what is required to succeed in university programmes within the familiar environment of school. This experience supports students in transitioning from secondary school to university life, encourages participation, and supports good college and career choices. Transition-year students (15–16 year-olds) take core university modules from engineering programmes running at TU Dublin. Background: Autonomic dysfunction plays a significant role in initiating postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) by causing atrial ectopic triggers, potentially through mechanisms such as increased sympathetic activity and altered vagal tone. These atrial ectopic triggers can easily induce POAF, especially in the presence of vulnerable substrates such as pericardial inflammation or structural remodeling. Objective: To test the hypothesis that autonomic dysfunction causes atrial ectopic triggers or POAF in the canine sterile pericarditis model. Since 2017, the Chinese government has launched a campaign of repression against the Muslim Turkic minorities of Xinjiang, a region located in China’s Northwest. While most scholars have focused on the mass internment of Uyghurs and other minorities, this Article highlights an under-discussed aspect of China’s campaign: the construction of a sophisticated forced labor system. Minority forced labor supplies key sectors of the global economy—from the automotive to the energy sectors—and allows Chinese companies to outcompete foreign firms. The morphological structure of Semitic languages like Arabic and Hebrew is based on non-concatenative roots and templates. This complex word structure used by humans is obscured to neural models that use traditional tokenization algorithms. In this work, I present and evaluate Semitic Root Encoding (SRE), a tokenization method that represents Semitic words with distinct root and template stem tokens, and apply it to neural machine translation (NMT). I evaluate whether tokenization with the SRE method leads to increases in translation quality, whether it allows NMT models to hypothesize unseen word forms needed at inference, and how impervious resulting NMT models …

This study presents a structural analysis of the brittle and ductile features within the Aileu Metamorphic Complex of Timor Leste, located in the active Banda Arc–Australian continental collision zone. The deformation history of the complex is interpreted from the Permian–Jurassic deposition of sediments and basalts into intra-arc basins of Gondwana, through to the present- day collision of the Australian continental margin. This collision led to the development of the Wetar Suture and subsequent back-thrusting of the Aileu metamorphic rocks northward over the Banda forearc. Oldfield & Bonano (2024) point out not only the scarcity of research on fish welfare but also significant taxonomic bias in broader research on these species. This bias extends to the management practices of aquaria and zoos, where the focus is on higher vertebrates. More resources need to be allocated to research to address this disparity. We also need to develop welfare constructs that recognize the inherent differences between aquatic and terrestrial species, taking into account the unique ecological contexts and behavioral patterns of fishes.

Wireless Emergency Alerts are an important way people learn about impending threats. Yet, these messages typically lack information about the hazard that will endanger people. In this study, we examine how naming the hazard and its associated cues in a Wireless Emergency Alert influences people’s perceptions that help them make protective action decisions, including understanding, belief, personalization, deciding, response efficacy, and self-efficacy. Cinematic Dialogue Capture With Mobile Wireless Microphones: A Systems Approach To Blocking, Acoustics, And Set Dynamics, John Trevino

This paper presents a systems-engineering analysis of cinematic dialogue capture using mobile wireless microphones. Building on field observations and workstation-based evaluation conducted between June and August 2025, the study models the acoustic, timing, and blocking interactions that shape production-sound outcomes on narrative film sets. A multi-layer framework is proposed that integrates sound recording, cinematography, actor movement, and post-production requirements. Results indicate that mobile microphone systems, when operated within disciplined workflows, can deliver high-quality dialogue coverage with notable advantages in mobility, scene flexibility, and production efficiency.

This article is supported by the information and perspectives received from 12, one-on-one, semi-structured interviews with a variety of thought leaders in Taiwan. On July 23, 2003, Salvadoran President Francisco Flores introduced a punitive and militaristic gang-prevention measure, Plan Mano Dura (Plan Iron Fist), in an attempt to solve the gang phenomenon plaguing El Salvador. Background: Low-complexity automated nucleic acid amplification tests (LC-aNAATs) are molecular World Health Organization (WHO)-recommended rapid diagnostic tests (also known as mWRDs) widely used to diagnose tuberculosis disease. The lateral flow urine lipoarabinomannan assay (LF-LAM) is recommended by the WHO to assist in diagnosing tuberculosis disease amongst people with HIV. Previous systematic reviews have assessed the diagnostic accuracy of LC-aNAATs and LF-LAM used in isolation for the detection of tuberculosis, but in clinical practice the tests may be used in parallel (i.e. LC-aNAAT in combination with LF-LAM).

Drawing from the insights of community partners, this study explored the roles and benefits of arts-based approaches to foster civic learning, critical media literacy, and community engagement. It also uncovered approaches to promote kindness, prevent violence, and combat online extremism, offering insights into strategies that may enhance community engagement and create a positive impact. We presented our model framework, a detailed case study of our project, and qualitative methods incorporating 15 interviews with our community partners to capture a broad range of perspectives and experiences. Background and objectives: Investigation of olfactory impairment, an early manifestation of Alzheimer disease (AD), in relation to plasma biomarkers of AD and neurodegeneration could provide insights into the disease's pathophysiology. Because few such studies based on large, diverse, community-based populations exist, we investigated associations of odor identification ability with plasma biomarkers of AD and other neurodegenerative pathologies in community-dwelling Black and White older adults.
