Nurse managers play a vital role in the functioning and stability of healthcare systems, yet their well-being remains an underexplored area of research. The COVID-19 pandemic brought renewed attention to occupational burnout, including in nursing leadership, where nurse managers reported high levels of stress, emotional exhaustion, and organizational strain. Cancer cachexia (CC) is marked by severe skeletal muscle loss and dysfunction, associated with mitochondrial degeneration. Our previous studies showed induction of the mitophagy marker BNIP3 3-wk post-Lewis lung carcinoma (LLC) induction. We hypothesize that excessive mitophagy contributes to muscle wasting in CC. To test this, we used a Bnip3 knockout (KO) mouse model with LLC-induced CC to assess its impact on muscle outcomes. Eight-wk-old male and female mice were injected with 1 x 10(6) LLC cells or PBS (sham controls). Background and aims

Unhealthy diets have pro-inflammatory properties that have been shown to contribute to coronary artery disease (CAD). The dietary inflammatory index (DII®) and the dietary antioxidant quality score (DAQS) quantify the anti-/pro-inflammatory and antioxidant potential of a diet. This study aims to investigate the association between the energy-adjusted DII (E-DIITM), DAQS, oxidant/anti-oxidant biomarkers, and CAD risk and severity.

Methods and results

When Congress passed the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) in 1971, it directed the creation of twelve regional and over two hundred village corporations chartered under Alaska state law. ANCSA subjected these corporations to Alaska’s corporate governance framework, including the laws and regulations governing corporate elections. This Article examines the statutory and regulatory requirements applicable to ANCSA corporations, including the various requirements around ANCSA corporation annual shareholder meetings. It also analyzes relevant state and federal case law interpreting and applying these requirements. Rediscovering Alaska’S Right To Housing, Helen Malley

In the wake of Grants Pass v. Johnson, state constitutions provide an alternative avenue to protect the rights of people experiencing homelessness. While some states contemplate amending their constitutions to encompass a right to housing, this Article argues that such a right already exists in the Alaska Constitution. Article VII, Sections 4 and 5 explicitly direct the legislature to provide for the public health and welfare, and Article I, Section 22 recognizes all Alaskans’ fundamental right to privacy. When read together, these provisions provide for a dual right to housing, encompassing both an affirmative right to adequate and affordable housing, …

Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) and Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) face significant workforce challenges, but mobile technology may assist with reducing their administrative burden, assist in training needs, and increase the level of support felt by their supervisors. Purpose: Young and middle-aged women engage in distinct occupations, facing unique post-stroke challenges that complicate their recovery. However, little is known about their experiences with occupational engagement following a stroke. This qualitative systematic review aimed to explore the post-stroke experiences of women aged 18–65 from an occupational perspective of health. Methods: A comprehensive search of five databases identified qualitative studies on post-stroke experiences of women aged 18–65. Two reviewers independently appraised the methodological quality of eligible studies. Data were extracted and synthesised using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) method of meta-aggregation. This research includes synthesizing new bis-Schiff bases linked to“N-[(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl) methyl]-8-methyl-(E)-6-nonenamide” derivatives. This work involved ring opening of phathalic anhydride by hydroxyl groups in “N-[(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl) methyl]-8-methyl-(E)-6-nonenamide” then, they were reacted with thiourea to synthesize Schiff bases by the reaction of different aldehydes. The first step involved the condensation reaction between “N-[(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)methyl]-8-methyl-(E)-6-nonenamide” (H) and phthalic anhydride to produce(H1). In the second step, compound H1 was reacted with one mol of thiourea to produce maliamic compound (H2). This study examined the impact of the 2017 New Jersey regulation requiring vendors to have 1,000 square feet of retail space in order to participate in the Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) food program. Specifically, it examined vendors' role in developing the policy and their perspectives on its implementation. Previous research indicated improved policy outcomes by including policy targets in policy dialogue, but there was a lack of research exploring the experiences of vendors. This study examines the impact of yeast selection on fermentation performance, filtration efficiency, and the stability of low-alcohol and non-alcoholic beer (NAB). Three yeast strains (LA-01, LoNa, and W-34/70) were evaluated for their effects on key NAB parameters like ABV, bitterness, color, haze readings, and filtration-linked performance. Filtration trials revealed that highly flocculating W-34/70 resulted in lower post-filtration turbidity, whereas LA-01 and LoNa (which flocculated less) required more effective filtration techniques to achieve clarity. Among the tested filter sheets, AF 31, AF 71, and AF 101 successfully reduced turbidity below 2 EBC. However, all NABs exhibited haze formation during storage, …

Guillan-Barré syndrome (GBS) is an autoimmune-mediated process that typically causes a progressive ascending paralysis that can lead to persistence of symptoms, permanent paralysis, and even death. While most cases follow a classical course with gradual progression of symptoms until eventual plateau, atypical and rapid onset clinical presentations can complicate differential diagnosis and diagnostic certainty, leading to late diagnosis by clinicians. A 35-year-old male with a history of intravenous (IV) methamphetamine use presented with a sudden onset and complete motor and sensory triplegia of the bilateral legs and left arm upon waking, which resolved shortly after hospital admission. Physical Activity (PA) and health science researchers often face challenges related to sample size, which can impact the reliability and generalizability of study findings. The purpose of the current paper is to address these issues by discussing key statistical concepts: effect size and Type I and Type II errors, with a specific focus on examining statistical power and sample size using studies from the Disability and Health Journal (DHJ). We examined research articles published in DHJ over a 15-year period (2008–2022), covering 62 issues and analyzing a total of 1,177 articles. Our analysis revealed that the median sample sizes …

The new azo dye was prepared from the reaction of the diazonium salt derived from 3-aminophenol with 2-hydroxyquinoline, then it was used to prepare a series of complexes with the chlorides of cobalt, chromium, copper, nickel, platinum, palladium and ammonium molybdate. The ligand was identified by a proton and carbon nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, and the compounds were collected. The prepared materials were subjected to infrared, ultraviolet-visible, and mass spectrometry, as well as thermogravimetric analysis, differential calorimetry, and elemental analysis. Nanotechnology has significant advantages over traditional methods for degrading dyes. Plant-based nanoparticles were generated apart from other biomaterials. This work employed a green sol-gel approach to prepare titanium dioxide nanoparticles by using Petai (Parkia speciosa) peel extract. The produced TiO₂ was analyzed by XRD, UV-DRS, FE-SEM, FTIR, Raman, zeta, and nanoparticle size analysis. PP-TiO₂ nanoparticles having a tetragonal anatase phase, spherical, stable particles, and a small particle size (16–22 nm) were successfully produced. When exposed to UV light, the nanoparticles displayed strong photocatalytic activity, eliminating Acid Yellow 25 in less than 120 minutes. This work demonstrates …
