Over the past decade, artificial intelligence (AI) has begun to assist, augment, and influence judicial and legislative work. At the end of 2023, U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts was “confident” that technological changes would continue to transform the common law and that judicial work would “be significantly affected by AI.”

In the legislative realm, there are AI tools devoted exclusively to drafting statutes, and the use of AI by members of the U.S. Congress is now officially sanctioned. The Exceptions Clause of Article III of the Constitution is clear that “Congress” “shall make” the rules prescribing the Court’s “appellate jurisdiction.” And so Congress did for almost 150 years. But in the twentieth century, Congress delegated its power to the Supreme Court in the form of—as Chief Justice Taft demanded—”absolute and arbitrary” discretion to pick its appellate cases. Today, under the resulting certiorari regime, the Court enjoys that unbridled discretion in selecting its cases.

Because Congress delegated its power to the Court without articulating “an intelligible principle,” certiorari jurisdiction violates the nondelegation doctrine and is unconstitutional. This Article is …

In Harrington v. Purdue Pharma, the United States Supreme Court held that victims of the opioid crisis could not be forced to release their independent claims against the Sacklers, who owned and controlled Purdue, without the victims’ consent. Such releases had become a controversial mainstay of mass tort bankruptcy filings. Yet Purdue was decided on narrow, textualist grounds, leaving as a side effect many seemingly disparate and difficult questions unanswered. This qualitative case study investigates faculty perspectives on artificial intelligence (AI) integration within a private university context, examining pedagogical, administrative, and ethical implications. Data collected through semi-structured interviews with faculty across four disciplines revealed ambivalent yet cautiously optimistic attitudes. Participants acknowledged AI’s potential to enhance personalized learning and reduce bureaucratic burdens through automation. However, three critical barriers emerged: (1) insufficient institutional technological infrastructure, (2) lack of systematic faculty training programs, and (3) unresolved ethical dilemmas surrounding data privacy, algorithmic bias, and academic integrity. This research presents a comprehensive analysis of the mooring system design for the 1 MW OE35 wave energy converter, which is being developed by the WEDUSEA project. The study centres on the dynamic analysis of mooring configurations using Orcaflex software to simulate the environmental and operational conditions expected at the deployment site. The analysis involved an iterative design and validation process, refined through both numerical modelling and basin testing. These tank tests were crucial for validating the Orcaflex model outcomes by providing a controlled environment to observe the physical behaviours of the proposed mooring configurations under simulated sea conditions. Plant genotype is known to affect plant-invertebrate interactions. However, in megadiverse tropical habitats there has been relatively little exploration of the influence of the plant genotype on plant growth and biotic interactions in an experimental setting. We set-up three adjacent plots in rainforest at the foothills of the Andes (Orellana, Ecuador), where we planted clones of 37 individual Heliconia stricta rhizomes collected from up to 4 km away. Each rhizome was split into at least three individual pieces, resulting in three genetically identical replicates. At least one representative of each genotype was planted in each plot. BACKGROUND: Takotsubo syndrome (TTS) differs significantly from acute myocardial infarction (AMI) in clinical features and pathological mechanisms, but evidence in Asian populations remains limited. The aim of this study is to compare clinical features and outcomes between patients with TTS and AMI in the first Chinese registry of TTS (ChiTTS Registry, ChiCTR1900026725).

METHODS: In this multicenter 6-year retrospective cohort study (February 2016-June 2022), a total of 116 consecutive TTS patients diagnosed according to the international Takotsubo diagnostic criteria and 232 age- and sex-matched AMI patients (1:2 ratio) meeting the 2023 European Society of Cardiology guidelines criteria were enrolled from 10 …

A prior history of falls remains the strongest predictor of future falls in individuals with Parkinson's disease (PD). There are limited biomarkers available to identify falls risk before falls begin to occur. The aim of this review is to investigate if features associated with falls risk may be detected by wearable sensors in patients with PD. A systematic search of the MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane, and Cinahl databases was performed. Key quality criteria include sample size adequacy, data collection procedures, and the clarity of statistical analyses. Production of waxy crude oil poses significant challenges due to high wax contents, which negatively affects the production rate. Several techniques have been adopted to ensure the flow of heavy crude oil during production. However, many of the methods appear costly and pose challenges during installation. Therefore, this study aims to investigate using nichrome wire for heavy crude oil production. An experimental setup was developed to power the nichrome wire placed inside the production casing. This study explores the integration of machine learning (ML) models and explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) techniques to enhance the accuracy and transparency of apple quality assessment. Leveraging the Apple Quality dataset from Kaggle, we evaluated the performance of random forest (RF), logistic regression (LR), support vector machine (SVM), and eXtreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) across accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score metrics. Among these models, RF demonstrated superior performance, achieving an accuracy of 87.6%, underscoring its robustness in managing complex feature interactions. Kinetic Study Of Bentonite-Based Desulphurisation For Cleaner Kerosene, Haider J. Esmaeel, Safaa M.R. Ahmed

This study introduces a novel, non-extractive Oxidative Desulphurisation (ODS) method for kerosene using a three-phase Oscillatory Baffled Reactor (OBR). The process utilises commercial bentonite clay (aluminium silicate hydrate) loaded with 15 wt% vanadium pentoxide (V₂O₅) as a cost-effective catalyst. Catalyst characterisation showed surface areas of 56 m²/g for bentonite and 50.13 m²/g for the V₂O₅/bentonite composite. Structural and thermal properties were analysed using X-ray diffraction (XRD). The ODS process was tested under various conditions, including temperatures (40–80°C), residence times (15-120 min), oscillation intensities (63.79–382.8 Reo), and sulphur concentrations (84.4–578 ppm). 316L-Ti-Cu alloy was developed with two variations of copper at 1 vol% and 3 vol% through powder injection moulding to investigate the influence of copper on the alloy. This alloy has not been researched before and is expected to serve as an alternative for implants that possess beneficial antibacterial effects from copper, which can mitigate infection-related issues that occur during orthopaedic surgery. Current digital currency wallet interfaces often rely on repetitive single-note selection methods, such as individual swipes or taps, which can be inefficient and tedious for selecting multiple notes, particularly for larger transactions. This document describes a gesture-based interaction mechanism for digital currency applications. The mechanism allows a user to initiate a counting mode by tapping and holding a stack of virtual notes. While maintaining the tap, a user may slide their finger along the side of the stack, mimicking the action of counting physical bills, with haptic and visual feedback provided for each counted note.
