This review examines the effect of physical work environments—the dedicated, tangible spaces where employees carry out their professional tasks—on organizational processes and outcomes. We synthesize decades of research across various disciplines using a conceptual framework that defines physical work environments along three key dimensions: ambience, spatial configuration, and aesthetics. These dimensions are analyzed for their effects on both internal stakeholders, such as employees, and external stakeholders, including clients, suppliers, and investors. Multi-period portfolio optimization is a central problem in finance, yet it is computationally intractable for traditional dynamic programming methods due to the curse of dimensionality. This paper develops a tractable and theoretically grounded 'one-shot' stochastic optimization framework that recasts the sequential decision problem into a single, high-dimensional optimization task. Our approach models the predictive distribution of factor returns using Gaussian Processes (GPs), allowing it to capture complex, non-linear market dynamics. We make three primary contributions. New resource storage arrangements are proliferating rapidly both in terms of physical infrastructures-for the storage of things like "clean" energy, nuclear waste, carbon dioxide, fresh water, and data-and as part of a set of discursive moves that reinforce a vision of a near future world in which problems of climate change mitigation and adaptation in particular (but also issues like energy security, water security, industry growth, etc.) are solved through eco-modernist techno-fixes. Seasonality and land-use change are key factors influencing forage availability for managed honey bee colonies, yet knowledge of forage identity and how these factors influence forage availability remains limited in Africa. To address these gaps, we used DNA metabarcoding to identify nectar and pollen plant species supporting the nutrition of the African savannah honey bee, Apis mellifera scutellata, across different land-use/land cover types and seasons in Taita Taveta County, Kenya. We identified 224 forage plant species from 65 families, with Asteraceae, Fabaceae, and Myrtaceae being the top contributors. The coastal region of Kenya has emerged as a focal point for urban dengue virus transmission driven by Aedes aegypti as the primary vector. To gain a deeper understanding of the epidemiological situation, we carried out a year-long longitudinal study (December 2021- November 2022) of the population dynamics of A. aegypti through weekly mosquito surveys using ovitrap and CO2-baited Biogents (BG) mosquito traps in Ukunda, an urban township in the coastal region. Aedes eggs laid in ovitraps were exclusively A. aegypti with 80.8% mean hatch rate. A total of 35,109 adult A. aegypti were captured, with twice as many females …

The red spider mites are a major biotic limitation to productivity for Brachiaria (Urochloa spp.) grasses in tropical Eastern Africa, causing severe economic losses mainly in the dry seasons. However, due to the lack of reports of integrated pest management strategies, genetic resistance can play a crucial role in Brachiaria-based livestock systems, minimising the impact of this pest. Malaria vector control tools currently focus on insecticide treated nets (ITNs) and indoor residual spraying in malaria-endemic locations, but additional preventative strategies are needed to address protection gaps. Larval source management (LSM) includes larvicide application to aquatic habitat and an array of alternative forms of environmental efforts. An individual-based transmission model for falciparum malaria is used to demonstrate the theoretical benefit of suppressing malaria adult mosquito vector densities through LSM. The emergence and re-emergence of mosquito-borne arbovirus (MBV) diseases pose a rapidly expanding global health threat fueled by the convergence of multiple ecologic, economic, and social factors, including climate change, land use, poverty, deficiencies of water storage and sanitation, and limitations of vector control programs. Subcellular targeting of signaling enzymes influences where and when various modes of intracellular communication operate. Macromolecular complexes of signal transduction and signal termination elements favor reversible control of repetitive processes. This includes adrenergic stimulation of excitation–contraction coupling in the heart. Long isoforms of A-kinase anchoring protein 18 (AKAP18γ and δ) modulate this process via regulation of calcium uptake into the sarcoplasmic reticulum through the Ca2+ATPase 2a (SERCA2a). AKAP18 proximity-proteomic screening in cardiomyocytes identifies networks for protein kinase A (PKA) and ubiquitin-specific proteinases (USPs). Multi-modal spatial omics data are invaluable for exploring complex cellular behaviors in diseases from both morphological and molecular perspectives. Current analytical methods primarily focus on clustering and classification, and do not adequately examine the relationship between cell morphology and molecular dynamics. Here, we present MorphLink, a framework designed to systematically identify disease-related morphological-molecular interplays. MorphLink has been evaluated across a wide array of datasets, showcasing its effectiveness in extracting and linking interpretable morphological features with various molecular measurements in spatial omics analyses. Objective: The management of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) has substantially changed over the past two centuries. This review explores the historical progression of HNSCC management focusing on the multidisciplinary treatment paradigm.
Data sources: This review synthesizes data from historical and current clinical trials, books, scientific reports, public documents, and other written material relevant to HNSCC management.

Results: Although surgery was initially the only treatment available, radiation, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy have expanded the treatment landscape for HNSCC. Importance: Tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) are a provocative biomarker in melanoma, influencing diagnosis, prognosis, and immunotherapy outcomes; however, traditional pathologist-read TIL assessment on hematoxylin and eosin-stained slides is prone to interobserver variability, leading to inconsistent clinical decisions. Therefore, development of newer TIL scoring approaches that produce more reliable and consistent readouts is important.
Objective: To evaluate the analytical and clinical validity of a machine learning algorithm for TIL quantification in melanoma compared with traditional pathologist-read methods.

Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is a rare and aggressive neuroendocrine skin cancer that is responsive to immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI). On rare occasion, MCC spontaneously regresses. It is speculated that this regression occurs when biopsy-induced antigen shedding precipitates an immune response. Here, we demonstrate the activation of an adaptive immune response in a patient whose tumor underwent spontaneous regression after biopsy. Patients with recurrent/metastatic (r/m) head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) have limited treatment options and a dismal prognosis, especially when their cancer is resistant to standard treatments like anti-programmed cell death protein 1 and platinum-based therapies. Petosemtamab - a human, common light chain, bispecific antibody with enhanced antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity targeting epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and leucine-rich repeat-containing G-protein coupled receptor 5 (LGR5) - demonstrated antitumor activity in r/m HNSCC. In contrast to chimeric antigen receptor T cells, T cell receptor (TCR)-engineered T cells can target intracellular tumor-associated antigens crucial for treating solid tumors. However, most trials published so far show limited clinical activity. Here we report interim data from a first-in-human, multicenter, open-label, 3 + 3 dose-escalation/de-escalation phase 1 trial studying IMA203, an autologous preferentially expressed antigen in melanoma (PRAME)-directed TCR T cell therapy in HLA-A*02+ patients with PRAME+ recurrent and/or refractory solid tumors, including melanoma and sarcoma. Desmoid tumors are rare mesenchymal neoplasms characterized by a clonal proliferation of fibroblasts and myofibroblasts. Using the novel contrast-enhanced susceptibility-weighted imaging (CE-SWI) for characterizing desmoid tumors can enhance the separation between fibrous T2-hypointense and cellular T1-enhancing components. We aim to evaluate the effectiveness of the CE-SWI signal, volumetric, and radiomics-derived features in assessing desmoid treatment response. This IRB-approved study included 17 single-lesion extremity desmoid fibromatosis patients who underwent standard-of-care MRI, including CE-SWI, from March 2021 to February 2024. Memantine is an US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved drug that is thought to selectively inhibit NMDA-subtype of ionotropic glutamate receptors (NMDARs). NMDARs enable calcium influx into neurons and are critical for normal brain function. However, increasing evidence shows that calcium influx in neurological diseases is augmented by calcium-permeable AMPA-subtype ionotropic glutamate receptors (AMPARs). Here, we demonstrate that these calcium-permeable AMPARs (CP-AMPARs) are inhibited by memantine. Electrophysiology unveils that memantine inhibition of CP-AMPARs is dependent on their calcium permeability and the presence of their neuronal auxiliary subunit transmembrane AMPAR regulatory proteins (TARPs). Advanced practitioners (APs), including nurse practitioners (NPs), physician assistants (PAs), clinical nurse specialists, and pharmacists, are pivotal in health care. Despite their critical role, record numbers of APs are leaving the profession, primarily due to poor work-life balance, which contributes to burnout and high turnover rates. This article explores the impact of administrative time on AP job satisfaction and retention, drawing from recent surveys and case studies. Findings indicate that dedicated administrative time significantly enhances job satisfaction and reduces burnout, with data showing that APs with administrative time are less likely to leave their roles. BACKGROUND: Standard-of-care treatment of localized undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma (UPS) involves preoperative radiotherapy (RT) and surgery. Combination of RT with immune-checkpoint blockade (ICB) represents a promising new strategy.
METHODS: Our primary objective was to assess survival outcomes and pathologically documented response in patients receiving RT with or without ICB or chemotherapy.
RESULTS: In a retrospective cohort of 68 patients with primary or locally recurrent UPS who received neoadjuvant RT with or without ICB, the ICB group had greater tumor hyalinization than the non-ICB group (89% compared with 30%, P = 0.018). Climate change, once narrated through scientific data and economic costs, is now unavoidably framed as a question of rights and justice. This article examines how litigation before the African, European, and Inter-American human rights courts makes the procedural dimensions of climate justice visible. Procedural justice here is understood capaciously and includes not only rules of access, standing, and evidence, but also the recognition of corporations as duty bearers in transnational accountability regimes. A comparison of the three regions shows how colonial legacies, institutional architectures, and political economies shape the channels through which communities can contest climate harm. Due to the auto-regressive nature of current video large language models (Video-LLMs), the inference latency increases as the input sequence length grows, posing challenges for the efficient processing of video sequences that are usually very long. We observe that during decoding, the attention scores of most tokens in Video-LLMs tend to be sparse and concentrated, with only certain tokens requiring comprehensive full attention. Based on this insight, we introduce Sparse-to-Dense (StD), a novel decoding strategy that integrates two distinct modules: one leveraging sparse top-K attention and the other employing dense full attention. Multimodal image fusion and object detection are critical tasks in computer vision, particularly in scenarios requiring robust perception under low illumination conditions. Existing approaches that attempt to combine these tasks often rely on cascaded or loosely coupled designs, which can result in suboptimal performance due to gradient conflicts and task imbalance. Recent advances in neural models have shown considerable promise in solving Traveling Salesman Problems (TSPs) without relying on much hand-crafted engineering. However, while non-autoregressive (NAR) approaches benefit from faster inference through parallelism, they typically deliver solutions of inferior quality compared to autoregressive ones. Background: Although traditional teaching advocates that microsurgical anastomoses should be performed to uninjured vessels outside the zone of injury (ZOI), there is no defined way to assess the extent of the ZOI, and uninjured vessels may not be available. To evaluate the complications ascribed to the ZOI and injured vessels, outcomes between arterial anastomoses fashioned from within the ZOI versus noninjured recipient vessels were compared.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a heterogeneous syndrome that not only affects short-term morbidity and mortality but also influences long-term outcomes. AKI is part of acute kidney disease (AKD) that encompasses a range of different conditions and is characterized by a kidney dysfunction lasting 90 days or less after which time the term chronic kidney disease (CKD) applies. Recent evidence suggests that the rapid-acting antidepressant ketamine has immune regulatory functions. The complement system is an important component of the innate immune response and plays a key role in synaptic plasticity. An increase in complement component 3 (C3) expression was previously found in the prefrontal cortex of individuals with depression. Introduction: Patients' perceptions about synthetic mesh for ventral hernia repair (VHR) may stem from a lack of knowledge of risks. We assessed patients' threshold for accepting the risk of hernia recurrence to avoid synthetic mesh.
Methods: Patients ≥18 y old with prior or upcoming VHR viewed a one-time video decision aid describing recurrence risk with biologic versus synthetic mesh. Patients chose between these options using a probability trade-off (PTO) technique, varying hernia recurrence rate with biologic mesh. Recent work has optimized parameters of a real-time reverse transcriptase PCR-based laboratory-developed test on the Panther Fusion system which detects Mycoplasma genitalium-specific macrolide resistance-associated mutations LDT (MRM-LDT) from primary swab and urine specimens. In this study, MRM-LDT was applied to a large multi-demographic study set to further characterize M. genitalium resistance in the United States. A total of 2,145 primary clinical specimens testing positive for M. genitalium 16S rRNA by transcription-mediated amplification (TMA) were initially titered by the same assay using serial 10-fold dilutions to determine relative target nucleic acid burden.
