Polarimetric data Scenario 07 collected within the Automated Remote Sensing Solar Simulation Lab at the University of Dayton. The data were collected using a visible monochromatic division-of-time imaging polarimeter. The dataset is parameterized across different sensor, scene, and illumination geometries that mimic outdoor solar irradiance conditions.

Building Supportive Third Places: The Use Of Arts-Based Programming In Family Resource Centers To Promote Resilience And Prevent Maltreatment, E. Susana Mariscal, Bryan Victor

Family Resource Centers (FRCs) have the potential to function as welcoming "third places"-similar to public libraries-that effectively support families while avoiding the stigma often associated with formal interventions. This article explores how arts-based programming can be integrated into FRCs to strengthen family protective factors and healing through non-clinical approaches. We provide an illustrative case example, detailing how federally-funded FRCs in Indiana offered a manualized sequence of A Window Between Worlds (AWBW), a 10-week trauma-informed nonclinical arts program. Facilitated by trained community members, AWBW emphasized safety, peer connection, and creative expression. Our evaluation showed significant reduction in trauma symptoms among caregivers …

According to the World Health Organization, “mental health is a state of well-being that enables people to cope with the stresses of life, realize their abilities, learn well and work well, and contribute to their community.”¹ Based on a 2025 ranking from WalletHub, Utah is the 4th “Happiest” state in the nation, so one might draw the conclusion that Utahns experience good mental health. Asphalt–rubber binders (A-RBs) have a long and deep history of use; however, little is known regarding the interrelated chemical behaviors and miscibility of rubber with the asphalt fractions [saturates, aromatics, resins, and asphaltenes (SARA)]. This study comprehensively attempted to address this knowledge deficiency by employing Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) to investigate the chemical evolution of A-RBs. A-RB interacted at 190 °C and 3000 min⁻¹ for 8 h was deemed to have the optimal rheological performance. FTIR of the liquid fractions of A-RB 190–3000 showed a prominent chemical shift in the SARA fractions, with new peaks that showed rubber …

Human SNCA, which encodes a-synuclein protein (SNCA), was the first gene linked to familial Parkinson's disease (PD). Since the discovery of the genetic link of SNCA to Parkinson's nearly three decades ago, many studies have investigated the normal function of SNCA protein. However, understanding of the normal function of SNCA is complicated by the lack of a reliable mammalian model of PD; indeed, mice with homozygous null mutations in the Snca gene live a normal lifespan and have only subtle synaptic deficits. This research evaluates the response of prosthetic sockets constructed using polymer nanocomposites and incorporating auxetic meta-structures. The prosthetic sockets feature lightweight meta-structures between the inner and outer walls of the socket. Three different prosthetic designs featuring chiral, reentrant hexagon, and honeycomb meta-structures are evaluated in this study. The prosthetic sockets were designed in SolidWorks and compared using finite element analysis. The polymer nanocomposites used in this study include polypropylene and ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene containing uniformly distributed inclusions of either titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, or graphene nanoplatelets. BACKGROUND: Solid organ xenotransplantation has been approved for clinical trials in the United States. Because of the role of nurses in patient decision-making, it is important to understand the attitudes of the future nursing workforce toward xenotransplantation. This pilot study aimed to investigate the attitudes of adult nursing students toward xenotransplantation.

METHODS: A cross-sectional survey design was used. The online pilot survey was completed by 33 undergraduate adult nursing students at one university in London, England. Maintaining the durability of coastal concrete structures while reducing construction costs remains a formidable challenge. Drawing inspiration from the volcanic concrete used by ancient Greeks and Romans, this study explores the feasibility of using waste mullite powder (WMP) with a high alumina content in seawater sea sand concrete to conserve natural resources and enhance durability. The experimental results demonstrate that the incorporation of seawater and WMP exerts detrimental impacts on the flow characteristics and workability of cementitious composites. While the sulfate content in seawater and sea sand can bolster the early strength of sea sand seawater concrete, sulfate attack compromises …

Abstract

Sudden Unexpected Infant Death Syndrome (SUIDS) is the leading cause of infant death. There is literature stating nursing compliance with safe sleep modeling in the hospital is a concern. In 2022, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) updated their safe sleep guidelines which include the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The national average rate of SUIDS is 94.8 deaths per 100,000 live births (CDC, 2024). In Kentucky the rate is higher than that at a rate of 128.4 deaths due to SUID per 100,000 live births (CDC, 2024). The purpose of this project was to educate nursing staff, with …

Abstract

Background: Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is a leading cause of death in the United States with 356,000 out of hospital cases annually. SCA in athletes is a rare but serious event; affecting 15.4% of those engaged in martial arts. Community-based training programs which promote prompt intervention with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillation (AED) significantly improve survival outcomes.

Purpose: This project aimed to implement a CPR and AED training program at a local martial arts school to improve the knowledge, self-efficacy, and emergency response capabilities of staff, instructors, and adult learners.

Agrogeophysics is a convergence of proximal soil sensing and hydrogeophysics in which geophysical methods are used to describe soil patterns and dynamics that shape agronomic management (including precision agriculture). To fully realize its potential for optimizing agricultural production, current barriers and targets for future agrogeophysics research must be identified. In this review, we compare the trajectory of agrogeophysics within peer-reviewed literature, patents, and the US university extension literature and examine the current challenges and opportunities for supporting agricultural production and sustainability with agrogeophysical tools. This study compares the bibliographic and full-text coverage of 15 conventional and alternative discovery/access mechanisms: two multidisciplinary library databases (Scopus and the Web of Science Core Collection), five single-subject databases, the integrated library search (ILS) mechanism of Manhattan University, a scholarly search engine (Google Scholar), two web-based scholarly databases (Dimensions and OpenAlex), two academic social networks (Academia.edu and ResearchGate), and two pirate sites (Anna’s Archive and Sci-Hub). The analysis is based on known-item searches for 875 target documents in chemistry, materials science, cardiology, public health, economics, education, and psychology. The potential economic consequences of mass deportation policies on the U.S. economy, specifically those reliant on immigrant labor, are examined. Evidence from economic models and various studies reveals that mass deportation would result in significant disruptions, including labor shortages, decreased productivity, and higher costs for firms and people. Contrary to claims that native-born workers would benefit from increased job opportunities and higher wages, the evidence shows that mass deportation would harm native workers. Historical precedents, such as the Secure Communities initiative indicate that deportation efforts in the past have led to detrimental economic outcomes and disproportionately affected native workers. The COVID-19 pandemic caused immense physical disruptions, affecting young adults in the U.S. The Health Belief Model is a social psychological framework that predicts the likelihood of adopting health behavior. The purpose of this research is to investigate COVID-19-related health beliefs and dietary behaviors among undergraduate students during the pandemic. Using convenience sampling, a cross-sectional survey was completed by 304 individuals at a New Jersey state university. Survey data included the frequency of COVID-19 prevention behaviors (e.g., wearing an indoor mask, handwashing), and consumption of fruit and vegetables. Background/Objectives: Studies have reported an increased risk of type 2 diabetes among people with higher protein intake. Moreover, branched-chain amino acids (BCAA) are reported to be positively associated with insulin resistance (IR). However, it is not understood whether elevated levels of BCAA are causal to IR development, or if higher BCAA are a marker of IR. The objective of this study was to examine the effects of long-term protein and carbohydrate supplementation on plasma BCAA levels, and the relationship between plasma BCAA and IR in postmenopausal women.
