RNA-protein interactions underlie many key processes in viral replication and antiviral immune responses. In this thesis, I reported our investigations on the roles of two RNA-binding proteins, Gag and IFIT1, in mediating HIV-1 genome packaging and regulating innate immune gene expression, respectively. The HIV-1 genome comprises a dimer of unspliced, positive sense mRNA (gRNA) that is packaged with high efficiency, with more than 90% of viral particles containing two copies of gRNA. Gag is the major HIV-1 structural protein that coordinates all steps of virion assembly and possesses a nucleocapsid domain (NC) required for gRNA binding and genome packaging. In …

Although Japanese seniors are very healthy, research shows that they are not very happy. Compared to seniors in other developed countries, Japanese elders have lower ratings of subjective well-being and are increasingly alone. This paper argues that changes to Japanese family life help explain why Japanese elders are struggling with low subjective well-being. Specifically, declining marriage rates and declining rates of elders living with their children (co-residency) have made it harder for elders to get the support they need. This paper introduces a characteristic method for solving linear first-order hyperbolic partial differential equations in two space dimensions. The algorithm employs rational Wachspress-type basis functions applied to a hexagonal discretization of the domain, integrated within the Eulerian-Lagrangian Localized Adjoint Method (ELLAM) framework. The proposed scheme preserves the strengths of characteristic methods and delivers accurate numerical results, even with large time steps. Computational tests conducted on standard benchmark problems illustrate the effectiveness of the method.

This research analyzes the optimization of the thermal performance of the natural convective flow of Ag-MgO/H2O hybrid nanofluid within a quarter-circular cavity utilizing response surface methodology (RSM) and artificial neural network (ANN) techniques through a non-homogeneous dynamic mathematical model. The Galerkin-weighted residual finite element method numerically solves the governing dimensionless equations and boundary conditions. The numerical results are then used to train ANN and RSM models and evaluate their performance. The results indicated that both models are dependable for this investigation, exhibiting a notably high coefficient of determination for the performance control variable, the average Nusselt number. Coastal industrial plants dispose of their wastewater effluents into shallow coastal waters through sea outfalls. When two or more outfalls along a coastline are discharging, the long-term impacts are interdependent. Analytical solutions of two-dimensional advection-diffusion equations with a two-point source in a spring-neap oscillating tidal current on a sloping seabed are presented to study the far-field merging and interaction of two discharged effluent plumes in coastal waters. Introduction: Foreign-born and foreign trained International Medical Graduates (FIMGs) face greater challenges in acculturation to their host countries than IMGs who train abroad and return to practice in their home country. As FIMGs are likely to fulfill a shortage of physicians in High Income Countries in the foreseeable future, we conducted a systematic review of literature to identify acculturation interventions that help FIMGs assimilate better in their host country health systems. The authors compiled a hydrologic model for the Edmore at Edmore and Edmore at Webster Coulee Basin using Cold Region Hydrologic Platform. The datasets include observed and simulated streamflow, observed climatic data, land use maps and hydrological representative unit maps (HRU) maps. This study detected a mechanism of hydrologic change to wetting using a cold region hydrologic model during 1991-2024 period.

Surfactants are widely utilized in agriculture as emulsifying, dispersing, anti-foaming, and wetting agents. In these adjuvant roles, the inherent biological activity of the surfactant is secondary to the active ingredients. Here, the hydrophilic non-ionic surface-active tri-block copolymer Pluronic^® F68 is investigated for direct biological activity in wheat. F68 binds to and inserts into lipid membranes, which may benefit crops under abiotic stress. F68’s interactions with Triticum aestivum (var Juniper) seedlings and a seed-borne Bacillus spp. endophyte are presented. Other key themes involve short-selling as it relates to risk management, strategic management, and market irregularities. Objective: This study aims to evaluate whether post-operative adjunctive radiotherapy (PORT) reduces recurrence rates and improves overall survival (OS) in patients diagnosed with grade II/atypical meningiomas (AMs).

Methods: A systematic search was conducted using Google Scholar with primary search terms including “meningiomas,” “surgical resection,” and “radiotherapy,” yielding 4,830 results. Inclusion criteria were limited to peer-reviewed articles published in English from 2019 or later. Studies published before 2019 or in non-English languages were excluded. Key outcomes analyzed included recurrence rates, progression-free survival (PFS), and overall survival.
