This mixed-methods action research study examined the systemic and perceptual barriers contributing to the under-identification and insufficient support of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in female students. Framed within Improvement Science, the study addressed how gender-based expectations influence educators’ recognition and interpretation of ADHD symptoms. Utilizing a two-phase approach, the research explored the impact of an eight-week asynchronous professional learning series aimed at enhancing educators’ skills in recognizing ADHD characteristics more frequently observed in girls, such as inattention, emotional dysregulation, and internalized behaviors. The findings show that participants developed a more nuanced, gender-aware understanding of ADHD, shifting away from hyperactivity-centered …

Hydrological switches, defined as rapid transitions between extreme meteorological events such as droughts and floods, are becoming increasingly frequent across the contiguous United States (CONUS) due to climate variability. This study analyzes the spatial and temporal patterns of these hydrological switches and their correlation with large-scale meteorological indices, such as the Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) and Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index (SPEI). Streamflow data from the US Geological Survey (USGS) is analyzed to investigate the impact of meteorological drivers on hydrological variability. Reczek and Bosley-Smith (2022) identified several reasons why queer adult children reported feeling compelled to maintain relationships with their rejecting parents, and the strategies that they utilized to do so. The construct of legitimization exists within a heteronormative context, contributing to the theory that adherence to cis-heteronormative relational ideals allows same-gender couples to have a greater chance of being accepted by the dominant culture (Chevrette & Eguchi, 2020). Unintentional or deliberate aligning with idealized images of traditional (i.e., cisgender and heterosexual) couples or families is a means by which same-gender couples may seek this acceptance.

In an effort to better understand how saltwater intrusion events will impact watermelon growers a field trial was conducted to study how saline irrigation water will impact weed growth and seedless watermelon productivity at a joint Clemson University and USDA ARS facility. Weed management has always been a hurdle in vegetable crop production systems, requiring extensive labor even in a conventional setup. For organic growers, often the only economical approach is a combination of mechanical weed control techniques, including plastic mulches, tarps, and hand weeding. The aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) is a ligand activated transcription factor that is essential in regulating development, immune homeostasis, and drug and xenobiotic metabolism. Activation of the AHR by specific ligands results in its translocation to the nucleus where it induces a myriad of gene products, including cytochrome P450 (CYP) drug metabolizing enzymes (e.g., CYP1A1) and other components of the chemical defensome, as well as inflammatory control. Interestingly, the AHR can bind a wide variety of endogenous and xenobiotic ligands which are able to induce unique downstream effects dependent on cell type, inflammatory context, and ligand stability. Objectives: Perimenopause has been associated with increased anxiety symptoms. However, data is lacking regarding the experiences of women with perimenopausal anxiety and the contributing factors to worsening anxiety symptoms. We explored the experiences of women with self-reported new onset or worsening of anxiety symptoms during perimenopause to better understand contributing factors.

Study design: Twenty women participated in one-on-one interviews to explore experiences of perimenopausal anxiety in the context of their daily lives and perimenopausal physical changes. Inductive thematic analysis was used to develop codes and themes from the transcribed interview data. Analysis was done using MAXQDA software.

The study examined the relationship between socioeconomic status (SES) and Special Education identification in rural Minnesota schools, focusing on Specific Learning Disabilities and Other Health Disabilities, to determine whether students from lower-income backgrounds are disproportionately identified for Special Education services. Data were collected from five rural Minnesota public schools, analyzing student-level demographic and eligibility data from the 2022–2023 school year. Descriptive statistics, Pearson’s correlation analysis, and ratio calculations assessed the relationship between SES, indicated by free/reduced-price lunch eligibility, and Special Education identification rates. Indigenous communities face unique challenges related to geography, food access, and the legacy of colonization, all of which affect dietary diversity and microbiome health. Drawing from the Health Belief Model, this project proposes a culturally responsive, education-based intervention to increase awareness of fiber-rich diets and their role in preventing chronic disease. This study evaluates the risk-adjusted performance of Hospitality REITs using multi-factor asset pricing models and downside risk measures with the aim of assessing their diversification potential and crisis sensitivity. Unlike prior studies that examine REITs in aggregate, this study isolates Hospitality REITs to explore their unique cyclical and macroeconomic sensitivities. This study looks at the risk-adjusted performance of Hospitality Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) in relation to more general REIT indexes and the S&P 500 Index. Background: Blood-based biomarkers hold significant promise for the early detection and diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and other dementias. Age-related changes in blood levels of AD biomarkers are well-documented but poorly understood. Epigenetic clocks are mathematical models based on DNA methylation patterns that reflect various aspects of the multidimensional aging process. We investigated the associations of epigenetic aging with five blood-based AD biomarkers in 2656 Hispanic/Latino adults (mean age 62.5 years; 65% females) from the Hispanic Community Health Study/Study of Latinos. I hypothesized that populations of species with large ranges would be locally adapted because of the variety of environments that different populations experience, that spatial patterns of local adaptation would correspond to patterns of endemism because processes driving local adaptation may also lead to speciation, and that the extent of local adaptation would be stronger in species with little gene flow among populations than in those with extensive gene flow because of the relative strength of selection necessary to overcome gene flow. Students with Disabilities (SWDs) are not making progress in reading, and this is a problem that occurs across the nation. The National Assessment of Educational Progress scores showed that students without disabilities are increasing in reading growth, while SWDs showed a decrease in reading (Stevens et al., 2024; Vaughn & Wanzek, 2014). This dissertation in practice examines the impact of professional development and instructional coaching on improving co-teaching practices in a high-poverty Title I high school in South Carolina. Many co-teaching models fail to reach their full potential due to inadequate training, limited planning time, and unequal role distribution between general and special educators. Using a mixed-methods improvement science framework, this study implemented targeted professional development and bi-monthly coaching cycles to strengthen collaboration and instructional fidelity. Quantitative data included pre- and post-intervention educator observation rubrics; qualitative data were collected through coaching debriefs and empathy interviews. The liquid sampling – atmospheric pressure glow discharge (LS-APGD) ionization source is a novel microplasma ionization source capable of ionizing a diverse set of both inorganic and organic chemical species including, ionic metal constituents as well as ligated metallic species, polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), halogens, proteins, and even per/poly fluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS). The ability to generate ions from diverse chemical species, known as combined atomic and molecular (CAM) ionization, is not found with traditional ionization sources. We study the homomesy phenomenon under the rowmotion operator acting on order ideals of posets. We provide details for the extensions of several results in the literature concerning homomesies of toggleability statistics from finite to infinite orbits, which allows us to obtain homomesies for piecewise-linear and birational rowmotion, even in the case of infinite orbits. Integral to this is a novel generalization of a result in the literature, which relaxes the conditions needed to lift a statistic.
