No Connectivity, Better Connections: Teenagers’ Experiences Of A Phone-Free Summer Camp In The U.S., Charlotte Megret

CompassPoint

A teen without their phone. This almost seems like a rarity these days as society has accepted personal technology as an integral part of young people’s identity. For outdoor practitioners, expedition leaders, and camp leaders, this is a divisive topic. While some educators seek to embrace the technological revolution to better connect with young participants, others shun it and see the outdoors as the ideal place for a “digital detox.” During my research, it became apparent that asking and understanding teenagers’ perspectives was essential to explore the place of mobile phone technology.

Can Ungrading Make Sport Management Education More Practical And Engaging?, Michael A. Odio Jul 2026

Can Ungrading Make Sport Management Education More Practical And Engaging?, Michael A. Odio

The COSMA Journal

In this essay I take on the subject of grades in sport management education. While grades are used as a measure of success across higher education, they are an imperfect measure of achievement and learning and have major limitations in terms of student employability. The ungrading movement brings attention to the ways grades can harm learning by shifting attention away from students’ development, and instructor or peer feedback, and intrinsic motivation, while incentivizing compliance and risk-aversion. These harms directly affect what are arguably some of the most important aspects of sport management education, as when grades are the main incentive, …

Covid Caring Updates, Compass Point

CompassPoint

Summer 2023 has ended and camps are looking forward to the future. While COVID was not overwhelming during this summer as previous years, there were still many camps having to navigate COVID (and norovirus) experiences and lean into their communicable disease plans to continue summer operations. The Alliance for Camp Health (ACH) hotline received many calls regarding COVID transmission and supported camps in revisiting prevention and intervention strategies. ACH continues to be invested in providing current information and education.

Food Allergy Management In Summer Camps, Miranda M. Potter Jul 2026

Food Allergy Management In Summer Camps, Miranda M. Potter

CompassPoint

Summer camps create policies and procedures for their programming, food services, communication, and health center. A growing health concern that camps face is food allergies. Some summer camps do not have policies in place to manage food allergies, which can be concerning for those who have potentially life-threatening food allergies. Summer camps provide an opportunity for children to partake in activities outside their comfort zone, socialize with peers, gain independence, and develop important life skills. When one adds managing a food allergy, it can present unique challenges that camps need to know how to navigate.

Decentralized System And Method For Purchasing Power Stabilization Via A Thermodynamic Oracle And Damped Homeostatic Control., Ibrahim Acaymo Baute Villalba

Defensive Publications Series

The invention consists of a desentralized financial method and system designed to protect purchasing power against macroeconomic inflation and eliminate the extreme volatily of traditional stable crypto-assets. It proposes the creation of a digital asset whose target value is not pegged to a fiat currency (such as the dollar), but rather to real-world metrics and tangible scarcity.

Adapting Media Management Applications To Macro-Level User Context, Ashwin Goyal, Nicholas James Staubach

Defensive Publications Series

Media management applications such as photo libraries enable users to organize their photos and videos around various themes, search their content, retrieve historical media, share media content with others, etc. Over a substantial time period, such applications act as a repository for the user’s dominant capture context. However, current media management applications provide a static user interface that does not adapt to the user’s capture context. This disclosure describes techniques that, with user permission, automatically detect a dominant context for media capture and automatically adapt a media management application to the detected context. The context is determined by analyzing captured …

Technical Disclosure: A Multi-Variable, Object-Oriented Database Schema And Api Protocol For Ai-Guided, Performance-Based Curriculum Routing, Christopher L. Eckes Jul 2026

Technical Disclosure: A Multi-Variable, Object-Oriented Database Schema And Api Protocol For Ai-Guided, Performance-Based Curriculum Routing, Christopher L. Eckes

Defensive Publications Series

This technical disclosure details the architecture for an automated, multi-variable, object-oriented data schema and Application Programming Interface (API) designed to execute performance-based curriculum routing without age-segregated grade boundaries. The system structures diverse academic, kinetic, and technical disciplines into standardized, interoperable data objects called Discipline Blueprints. Each blueprint enforces a non-linear advancement pipeline governed by two immutable checkpoints: a zero-assist algorithmic velocity sprint and a physical/systemic product generation milestone. A localized machine learning agent parses real-time telemetry from user interactions, dynamically matching individual cognitive profiles against localized workforce shortages and trade vectors to prevent network drop-out. Crucially, the architecture incorporates an …

From Ai To Alien(S): Universal Alignment Principles And The Architecture Of Inter-Species Communication Metrics, Christopher L. Eckes Jul 2026

From Ai To Alien(S): Universal Alignment Principles And The Architecture Of Inter-Species Communication Metrics, Christopher L. Eckes

Defensive Publications Series

The critical bottleneck in both contemporary Artificial Intelligence (AI) alignment and the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) is anthropomorphic bias. Modern AI alignment models rely heavily on human linguistic structures, reinforcement learning from human feedback (RLHF), and qualitative ethical frameworks. These models degrade rapidly when scaled to non-human or multi-agent networks. Similarly, traditional SETI protocols look for messages encoded in cultural or linguistic formats that assume shared biological or social evolutionary tracks.

This paper introduces a foundational framework for AI-Alien Alignment Principles (AAAP). By treating communication as a problem of non-linear dynamical systems integration, this model establishes Topology, Vector Calculus, …

Interaction Boundary Constraint, Brian Harber Jul 2026

Interaction Boundary Constraint, Brian Harber

Defensive Publications Series

Compositional AI systems increasingly operate through orchestration layers, retrieval mechanisms, external tooling, routing systems, and probabilistic model behavior. Under these conditions, evaluation often occurs through observable interaction surfaces while direct visibility into the full composition producing an interaction remains limited, partial, or absent at the point of interaction.

This paper defines the Interaction Boundary Constraint as a limit on what can be legitimately inferred from interaction surfaces alone under conditions where producing composition is not fully present at the point of interaction. The constraint distinguishes between reconstruction and compositional presence and constrains the scope of claims that interaction-surface evaluation alone …

Molecular Detection Of Chlamydiales In Captive Zoo Animals At Songkhla Zoo, Southern Thailand, Rawikan Inchuai, Sunisa Khongthong, Boontarikaan Wititkornkul, Naruepan Wongpluksin

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

Several species of Chlamydia are recognized as significant zoonotic pathogens that infect a wide range of hosts, including humans. This study aimed to investigate the occurrence and genetic characteristics of Chlamydiales–related bacteria in captive animals at Songkhla Zoo, southern Thailand. A total of 92 cloacal and rectal swab samples were collected from mammals (n = 22), birds (n = 55), and reptiles (n = 15). Genomic DNA was screened using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) targeting the Chlamydiales 16S rRNA gene and the ompA gene specific for Chlamydia psittaci. Positive amplicons were subjected to Sanger sequencing and phylogenetic analysis. A …
