Tremor, an oscillatory movement disorder, is commonly encountered in clinical practice in the setting of a variety of etiologies, such as essential tremor and Parkinson's disease. Despite its high prevalence, treatment options are somewhat limited. Oral medications are often ineffective or limited by side effects, and other treatments, such as deep brain stimulation, are more invasive and costly. Botulinum toxin (BoNT) injections are a well-established therapy in the treatment of dystonia, but its use in the treatment of tremors has not been fully explored. A disadvantaged neighborhood, as represented by area-level socioeconomic status (SES) has been associated with adverse outcomes among children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) in the US, but the duration of impact after ALL diagnosis is not well understood. This retrospective cohort study utilized the National Cancer Database (NCDB) to examine the impact of area-level SES on overall survival among children with ALL. Median income and education quartiles based on residential zip code were used to create a composite area-level SES variable. PURPOSE

This quality improvement (QI) project aimed to reduce the incidence of delirium by 30% through a nurse-initiated, non-pharmacological sleep improvement protocol in the ICU.

BACKGROUND

This project was implemented in a large healthcare organization in Houston, Texas, in a 16-bed Intensive Care Unit.

RNA post-transcriptional modifications act by stabilizing the functional conformations of RNA. While their role in messenger RNA (mRNA) decoding is well established, it is less clear how transfer RNA (tRNA) modifications outside the anticodon contribute to tRNA stability and accurate protein synthesis. Absence of such modifications causes translation errors, including mRNA frameshifting. By integrating single-molecule fluorescence resonance energy transfer and cryogenic electron microscopy, we demonstrate that the N1-methylguanosine (m1G) modification at position 37 of Escherichia coli tRNAProL is necessary and sufficient for modulating the conformational energy of this tRNA on the ribosome so as to suppress +1 frameshifting otherwise induced …

Early and accurate wildfire detection is critical for minimizing environmental damage and ensuring a timely response. However, existing satellite-based wildfire datasets suffer from limitations such as coarse ground truth, poor spectral coverage, and class imbalance, which hinder progress in developing robust segmentation models. In this paper, we introduce Land8Fire, a new large-scale wildfire segmentation dataset composed of over 20,000 multispectral image patches derived from Landsat 8 and manually annotated for high-quality fire masks. Building on the ActiveFire dataset, Land8Fire improves ground truth reliability and offers predefined splits for consistent benchmarking. Background: The Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet is an internationally recognized anti-hypertensive dietary model. This systematic scoping review examines the effectiveness of digital-based interventions utilizing the DASH dietary pattern. Methods: A search was conducted using 14 databases to include relevant studies from 1997 to January 2025 using PRISMA guidelines for scoping reviews. Results: The review included 24 studies with almost 7000 participants, including randomized controlled trials and cohort studies conducted in several countries. Interventions using the DASH dietary pattern positively affected blood pressure (BP), nutrition behavior, and weight. Some studies also reported secondary outcomes such as reduced healthcare …

The concept of "coolness" (清涼) embodied fundamentally different bodily and cultural experiences in Chinese and Western traditions. With the introduction of Western-style summer resorts by foreign missionaries in the 1890s, these divergent understandings converged and clashed in new spatial forms. This study examines Mokanshan (莫干山), located in Zhejiang province and recognized as one of the Republican era’s “Four Great Summer Retreats” (民國四大避暑地), as a paradigmatic case of transnational leisure. Initially developed by missionaries as a health-oriented retreat, a transnationally managed enclave, and a nostalgic “overseas home” for expatriates, Mokanshan reflected a hybrid model of modern leisure shaped by foreign institutions. …

This paper investigates Windfarm Layout Optimization (WFLO), where we formulate turbine placement considering wake effects as a Quadratic Unconstrained Binary Optimization (QUBO) problem. Wind energy plays a critical role in the transition toward sustainable power systems, but the optimal placement of turbines remains a challenging combinatorial problem due to complex wake interactions. In this paper, we used real data to predict the position of the floating wind turbines due to three external forces: wind, wave and current. We analysed data provided by energy company Equinor and applied two machine-learning techniques: Multilayer Perceptron and Random Forest. After demonstrating that machine learning models failed, we used a simple linear regression model and optimisation approach to solve the multi-objective optimisation problem. We minimised the perimeter of the wind farm and maximised its power output by applying the multi-objective optimisation algorithm NSGA-II. Ferrous ions in four-coordinate environments are common in protein structures, synthetic catalysts, and molecular magnets. The 3d⁶ configuration of high-spin Fe(II) imparts an S = 2 ground state, whose analysis using conventional spectroscopic methods is often hindered by substantial zero-field splitting (ZFS). Introduction: Patent process vaginalis and inguinal hernia are prolific in infants, and their repair is a common pediatric surgical procedure. However, there is a paucity of direct evidence detailing the spontaneous closure of patent processus vaginalis.

Case presentation: A 4-month-old boy born prematurely at 34-weeks with low gestational birth weight, underwent laparoscopic gastrostomy tube placement for oropharyngeal dysphagia and was incidentally found to have bilateral patent processes vaginalis. KRAS mutations frequently co-occur with alterations in STK11/LKB1 and/or KEAP1, defining an aggressive subset of lung cancers resistant to immuno- and chemotherapy. While LKB1 loss is associated with vulnerability to DNA damage response-based therapies, the impact of KEAP1 alterations remains unknown. We demonstrate that KEAP1-NRF2 pathway drives a compensatory modulation of ATR-CHK1 signaling, enhancing vulnerability to ATR inhibitors (ATRi), particularly in the setting of increased replication stress associated with LKB1 loss. ATRi shows enhanced anti-tumor activity in LKB1 and/or KEAP1-deficient non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) models and synergizes with gemcitabine. Purpose: There are limited data on the risk for mortality and health outcomes among the increasing population of older (age >50 years) survivors of childhood cancer during this later stage in life when there is an expected increase in aging-related morbidities.

Methods: We assessed cause-specific mortality, incident new cancers, chronic health conditions (CHCs), frailty, and health status among survivors from the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study, conditional on surviving to 50 years. Purpose: Hippocampal avoidance (HA) during therapeutic whole-brain radiotherapy reduces the risk of neurocognitive function (NCF) toxicity in patients with brain metastasis. This trial hypothesized that HA during prophylactic cranial irradiation (PCI) in patients with small cell lung cancer (SCLC) leads to noninferior intracranial relapse (ICR) and reduction in NCF toxicity.

Methods: This randomized phase II/III trial enrolled patients with SCLC, no brain metastases, and response to chemotherapy. The primary end points were 12-month ICR (noninferiority design, randomized phase II) and 6-month Hopkins Verbal Learning Test-Revised (HVLT-R) Delayed Recall (DR) failure (phase III). Purpose Even after the lifting of all government restrictions, introduced to combat the spread of Covid-19, many consumers remain fearful of in-person dining. This paper seeks to understand this reticence, and explain post-pandemic restaurant dining intentions. Design/methodology/approach The paper introduces and tests a conceptual framework for understanding in-person dining intentions in the post-Covid-19 era, utilizing structural equation modelling. To empirically validate the model, survey data collection (n = 436) occurred in China after the government lifted its “Zero-Covid” policy. Their functions are primarily mediated through interactions with specific protein partners that modulate chromatin structure, epigenetic remodeling, transcription, and signal transduction. In this review, we explore reports and strategies for the proteomic characterization of lncRNA-associated proteins, particularly emphasizing high-throughput liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC-MS)-based techniques. In this study, we generated and integrated plasma proteomics and metabolomics with the genotype datasets of over 2300 European (EUR) and 400 African (AFR) ancestries to identify ancestry-specific multi-omics quantitative trait loci (QTLs). In total, we mapped 954 AFR pQTLs, 2848 EUR pQTLs, 65 AFR mQTLs, and 490 EUR mQTLs. We further applied these QTLs to ancestry-stratified type-2 diabetes (T2D) risk to pinpoint key proteins and metabolites underlying the disease-associated genetic loci. The accumulation of anthropogenic debris (AD) in the Great Lakes is a growing issue with largely unknown consequences for ecological and human health. To better constrain estimates of debris loading into Lake Ontario and elucidate the fate of AD accumulating upstream, an incubation experiment of the most commonly identified littered products was conducted in different stormwater infrastructure within the Lake Ontario Watershed.
