The Changing Style Of Change In Style: A Critical Case Study On The Aesthetics Of De-Radicalization Experiences, Bernardo Alba

This dissertation explores how aesthetic experiences—not just belief-systems or ideologies—influence both the process of radicalization into, and de-radicalization out of, Far-right nationalist subcultures. It introduces the concept of “aesthetic conversion”: a profound transformative shift in how people experience and express themselves through artistic media and stylistic taste broadly understood (including but not limited to fashion, tattoos, music, dance, creative writing, public speaking, etc.). I argue that such transformations in aesthetic sensibility can spark profound ideological changes, including the possibility of fostering disengagement from such far-right movements. This dissertation explores Tan Dun’s cross-cultural synthesis in contemporary music, focusing on his work Elegy: Snow in June (1991) to illuminate his role in redefining global musical dialogues. Situating Tan Dun within the broader trajectory of Chinese-Western musical encounters, the research addresses gaps in existing scholarship by integrating historical, analytical, and performative perspectives. Through meticulous score analysis, cultural-historical contextualization, and insights from performance practice, the study reveals how Tan Dun hybridizes Chinese pentatonic modes with Western harmonic frameworks, subverts orchestral hierarchies through unique timbres (such as stones and paper), and synthesizes Beijing opera’s jinda, manchang (“hasty stroke with slow singing”) …

Purpose

The purpose of this study was to pilot a research-based autism training session for law enforcement officers (LEOs), test the Police Self-Efficacy for Autism (PSEA) scale as a measurement tool for the session and provide a preliminary examination of brief training. Design/methodology/approach

This study utilized a pre-post survey approach in which participants completed the PSEA scale pre- and post-training to measure the relationship between the training and self-efficacy scores. Findings

Results show a positive relationship between brief autism-specific training and officers’ self-efficacy scores across items and subscales. All four subscales and seven of thirteen items demonstrated statistical significance. Originality/value …

Guinea worm disease (GWD) has persisted in a small number of endemic countries despite decades of eradication efforts. Ongoing GWD transmission in these countries underscores the need to examine behavioral, environmental, and surveillance-related drivers. The purpose of this quantitative study was to assess associations among risk factors, including dog tethering, pond treatment with Abate, and community awareness, and GWD incidence. Many state nurse organizations are experiencing minimal and stagnant membership, which hinders involvement in policy advocacy, professional development, and workforce stability in healthcare. Policy changes are needed to offer state nurse organization memberships under the umbrella of a single organization that operates multiple medical clinics and employs at least one nurse. This research examined strategic policy interventions designed to increase membership within a state-level nursing organization. Structured tools like SBAR (situation, background, assessment, and recommendation) provide a framework to enhance clarity and reduce miscommunication. This quality improvement project implemented SBAR as a structured communication program in debriefing after simulation to improve communication confidence among practical nursing students. Aggression in psychiatric inpatient units presents a significant barrier to therapeutic care and staff safety, often resulting in the overuse of pharmacological interventions or restraints. Despite strong evidence supporting music therapy as a non-pharmacological option, limited exposure and confidence among healthcare team members hinder its use in practice. The purpose of this document is to organize the theory, industry practices, and research related to designing a device that pulls air through a pipe, containing an environmental sensor, at a rate controlled by a computer fan. Using such a device to regulate the airflow over a sensor can improve the accuracy of field readings, as sensors are often unintentionally sensitive to multiple external conditions. Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP), including gestational hypertension, preeclampsia, and chronic hypertension, are among the leading causes of maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality globally, affecting approximately 10% of pregnancies. Despite established clinical guidelines, a significant gap remains in provider knowledge and the consistent application of evidence-based practices, particularly during the postpartum period and among marginalized populations. Neutrosophic Systems with Applications

Neutrosophic sets assign each element three independent membership values—truth, indeterminacy, and falsity—and their partitioned extensions introduce additional components subject to sum-bounded constraints. Notable examples include quadripartitioned, pentapartitioned, and heptapartitioned neutrosophic sets. The O set concept further extends this framework by allowing membership values outside the standard [0, 1] interval, including negative values and values exceeding one. In this paper, we introduce and analyze the Quadripartitioned Neutrosophic O set, Pentapartitioned Neutrosophic O set, and Heptapartitioned Neutrosophic O set. These extensions are intended to enhance the expressiveness of neutrosophic theory and to stimulate further research in neutrosophic and fuzzy uncertainty.

Considering the enormous human and economic toll Chagas disease inflicts, investment in R&D of medical innovations such as diagnostics, pharmaceuticals and vaccines remains disproportionately low.  The patent landscape of Chagas’ disease vaccine innovation corroborates this unfortunate trend: an alarming paucity of investment which confirms this disease as among the most neglected of the neglected diseases.  However, the article then articulates how patent information can also be viewed as a starting point, and indeed springboard, for international collaboration to accelerate vaccine development via a dynamic opening-innovation strategy.

ABSTRACT: This article examines the structural constraints of the United Nations Security Council, with a focus on the veto power of its permanent members and its implications for intervention and peacekeeping. Through a realist lens and grounded in structural analysis, it contends that the recurrent paralysis of the Council in the face of mass atrocities stems from entrenched power asymmetries. The paper advances a bifold proposal: the adoption of the French-Mexican initiative to suspend veto use in cases of mass atrocities, and the entrenchment of the Council’s authority to authorize the use of force under defined conditions. In November 2016, Beijing restricted South Korean artists from holding concerts and the broadcast of South Korean TV dramas and banned cooperation between the two countries in the entertainment in- dustries. Does Bilingualism On Resumes Affect Callback Rates?, Autumn Halfpenny

I study the influence of bilingualism in Spanish on the likelihood of receiving a callback for female customer service positions in the Chicago area. Data are collected from sixteen unique resumes submitted to 131 different job postings in an audit study, with applicants differing in bilingual ability. Bilingualism in Spanish significantly in- creases the likelihood of a callback by 17.86%-25.4%, implying bilingualism is valued in customer service roles. This suggests that bilingualism in Spanish may increase job prospects. While previous research studies this using observational and survey data, I use an audit study design with resumes to obtain causal results. …

The Effects Of Pandemic School Closures On Standardized Testing Outcomes: Evidence From Connecticut, Michael Manieri

During the Covid-19 pandemic, schools around the nation closed to prevent the virus’s spread. Following these closures, students’ performance on standardized exams worsened. Using a two-way fixed effect model with district and year fixed effects, I examine if the use of non-traditional schooling modes (i.e. hybrid and virtual) during the pandemic is associated with lower ELA and Math proficiency rates in Connecticut public schools. I find that Connecticut public school districts’ Math and ELA pass rates on the annual Smarter Balanced exam significantly decreased as they used higher levels of virtual and hybrid education. This paper investigates the combined potential of neuromorphic and edge computing to develop a flexible machine learning (ML) system designed for processing data from dynamic vision sensors. We build and train hybrid models that integrate spiking neural networks (SNNs) and artificial neural networks (ANNs) using the PyTorch and Lava frameworks. We explore the effects of quantization on ANN models to assess its impact on both accuracy and energy efficiency. Additionally, we address the challenges of deploying hybrid models on hardware by implementing individual components on specific edge platforms. The COVID pandemic has highlighted the essential role of school meal programs, not only for education but also for children’s nutrition. In France, school meals are shaped by ambitious policies to ensure their safety and nutritional quality, while promoting sustainable eating practices and awareness of environmental and agricultural challenges. In this article, we used the case study of France to discuss the multi-sectoral value of these programs. The economic value of school meals in France amounts to €8.2 billion annually, of which 2.8 billion are dedicated to food purchases. Since 2022, the EGAlim and Climate and Resilience laws require canteens …
