This dissertation investigates the issue of parental involvement in Safe Passage, an anti-violence initiative operating within seven Pittsburgh Public Schools. Recognizing the involvement of parents is critical for successful violence prevention, this study explores the barriers hindering meaningful participation and identifies strategies to enhance parent-school-community collaboration.

Utilizing qualitative research methods, the study captures insights from parents, educators, and community stakeholders through a reflective Journey Line activity and focus group discussion. A ventilation port maintains the humidity range within a sealed or partially sealed enclosure maintaining a level of atmospheric moisture such as a greenhouse. The port is comprised of a polymer blend film made of a hydrophilic component serving as the water-absorbing material and substrate component serving as the mechanical backbone. The film is designed to bend and open the port when the humidity within the enclosure exceeds a predetermined level outside the humidity range, allowing for the venting of excess humidity. The language of subjective, individual rights has become the primary way of speaking about the rights and wrongs of human life together. Since the end of World War II, one subset of this language—that of human rights—has achieved a global influence. The various Christian traditions of the west have, in large part, adopted this language of human rights to articulate and supplement their assorted social teachings. The identified gap in practice was related to a lack of knowledge of pressure ulcer injury prevention among inpatient staff. Dissatisfaction And Residual Symptoms In Younger And Older Adult Patients After Total Knee Arthroplasty, Nicholas Pohl, Parker Brush, Adrian Santana, Sebastian Fras, Eleanor Jenkins, Arjun Saxena

INTRODUCTION: Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is an increasingly used treatment option for younger patients with osteoarthritis. Previous research has found only 66% patients < 60 years who underwent TKA postoperatively reported that their knees felt normal. However, the prior studies did not compare underlying causes for dissatisfaction based on age. This study compared the satisfaction and residual symptom rates between patients ages < 60 and ≥60 years and identified specific reasons for their dissatisfaction between the age groups.

METHODS: Patients who underwent unilateral TKA for osteoarthritis from 2014 to 2016 were electronically sent a 15-question survey pertaining to surgery satisfaction. Following patient identification and survey completion, patient demographics, medical history, surgical time, and length of stay were collected through manual review of medical records. Patients who completed surveys were grouped by age (< 60 years or ≥60 years) for analysis.

RESULTS: In total, 1189 ≥ 60-year-old patients and 388 < 60-year-old patients were included. Most patients in both cohorts reported satisfaction with overall knee function (< 60: 68.6%; ≥60: 71.8%; P = 0.175). Fewer < 60-year patients reported normal knee function (66.5% vs. 75.2%; P < 0.001). The most common residual symptom in both cohorts was continued pain.

Is Health Insurance Related To Breastfeeding Duration?, Anna De La Paz

Population Health Research Brief Series

Breastfeeding duration, which plays an important role in shaping maternal and infant health, can be influenced by insurance type. This data slice uses data from the 2022-2023 National Survey of Family Growth (NSFG) to described differences in breastfeeding duration by insurance type among females ages 15-49 in the United States. Findings show that mothers with private insurance breastfeed longer than mothers with public insurance, such as Medicaid, net of controls for maternal age, race, education, and income.

A computer-implemented system and method generate personalized text based on statistics derived from input received from a user representing the user's attempts to decode graphemes into phonemes. Such statistics may be measured and recorded at the grapheme-phoneme level, and may include substitutions, insertions, deletions, and correct utterances of phonemes by the user when reading text. A language model may be trained based on characteristics of the user, such as the user's age and/or reading grade level, and the personalized text may be generated after such training of the language model. Canada’s Indigenous people of Treaty 7 region have experienced intergenerational trauma resulting from colonization perpetrated by the Canadian government. While the use of medicinal plants, are employed by Indigenous social workers, their integration into mainstream human services organizations remains limited. The gaps in Indigenous social work practice hinders client culturally competent care and the acknowledgement of Indigneous knowledge systems in colonial systems. This generic qualitative study explored the experiences of participants who integrate medicinal plant healing and ancestral knowledge into practice.
