Real-Time Dynamic Hazard Maps For Shallow Colluvial Landslides In Eastern Kentucky, Lindsey Sebastian Bryson, Nathaniel O'Leary

Landslide hazards pose a persistent threat to communities and infrastructure in Eastern Kentucky, where steep slopes, shallow colluvial soils, and variable hydrological conditions drive frequent slope failures. This work advances landslide hazard mapping (LHM) through the development of dynamic, spatiotemporal models for shallow colluvial landslides. Two studies refine the use of a limit equilibrium framework to enhance predictive capability. The first study establishes a novel LHM workflow that integrates Hydrus-1D simulations of soil moisture dynamics, driven by precipitation and evapotranspiration data, into slope stability analysis. Background: Bystanders have the potential to be a critical component of the Road Injury Chain of Survival, particularly in the early phases of injury recognition, scene assessment, and emergency service activation. Their potential role in trauma triage remains underexplored. This scoping review aims to examine the existing evidence of the use of bystanders in triage—both laypersons and non-clinical professionals—during the prehospital phase of road injury and other trauma scenarios. Readiness Spares Packages (RSP) are critical to deployed operations. Future demands of the Air Force require squadrons to operate in different climate environments from home stations. RSPs can sustain aircraft maintenance operations for up to 30 days. Currently, failure rates of parts within the RSP are assumed to be constant. This research aims to explore whether there is a difference in F-15 RSP failure rates when Koeppen climate classifications are taken into effect. Background: Invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) is considered the most common form of breast cancer, accounting for a significant percentage of mortality worldwide. Therefore, its early detection is vital to further improve patients’ outcomes and survival rates. However, conventional diagnostic methods in the form of manual histopathological examinations are time-consuming, subjective, and prone to errors. Background: Differentiating acute kidney injury (AKI) from chronic kidney disease (CKD) in children remains a critical unmet need due to the limitations of current clinical and biochemical markers. Conventional ultrasound lacks the sensitivity to discern subtle parenchymal alterations. This study explores the application of ultrasound radiomics—a novel, non-invasive, and quantitative image analysis method—for distinguishing AKI from CKD in pediatric patients. Methods: In this retrospective cross-sectional pilot study, kidney ultrasound images were obtained from 31 pediatric subjects: 8 with oliguric AKI, 14 with CKD, and 9 healthy controls. The species of cattle fever ticks (CFT) present in North America, Rhipicephalus (=Boophilus) annulatus, and R. microplus, remain an important agricultural and economic burden. The use of acaricides to control CFT has been a common practice over the past half century. However, alternative strategies for control are needed to improve the options for sustainable pest control. Cardozo School of Law has launched the Center for Immigration Innovation, which will serve as a hub for immigration-related initiatives, including the new National Immigration Habeas Institute (NIHI). A partnership with the National Immigration Litigation Alliance, NIHI will train attorneys to litigate federal habeas petitions—an increasingly critical tool to protect noncitizens facing detention or deportation. The Center will also house the Kathryn O. Greenberg Immigration Justice Clinic and a new Immigration Research Institute, which will host scholarship workshops, speaker series, and service-learning trips. Polyoxyethylene ether is an efficient CO₂-philic compound with significant potential applications in CO₂ flooding, which requires CO₂-philic surfactants with high solubility in supercritical CO₂ (scCO₂). This study elucidates the molecular and atomic-level dissolution mechanism of the fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene ether (AEO) in scCO₂ by combining phase-behavior experiments and molecular dynamics simulations. The solubility of AEO in scCO₂ is measured using a semiconductor laser. AEO containing three polyoxyethylene (EO) groups exhibited the highest solubility in scCO₂.The solubility of AEO in scCO₂ decreased with an increase in the number …

The Tense Marker Total (TMT) and the Tense and Agreement Productivity (TAP) score are two ways of measuring children’s tense and agreement systems, and studies have shown that both measures track developmental growth across different ages in General American English (GAE)-speaking children. This dissertation examined the feasibility and validity of using these measures for children learning African American English (AAE).

The data were cross-sectional archival language samples from 38 AAE-speaking children who ranged in age from three to five years (11 at 3 years, 12 at 4 years, 15 at 5 years). The language samples were coded and scored for …

Metallic multi-material structures are heterogeneous structures characterized by changing composition, microstructures, and site-specific characteristics, advantageous for numerous applications where multifunctionality is desired. Metallic multi-material structures are known as bimetallic structures (BSs), which are functionally graded materials (FGMs). In recent years, wire-arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) advanced as a promising additive manufacturing process to realize the fabrication of these structures due to its high deposition rate, cost-effectiveness, and material utilization efficiency. Background: This study assesses the impact of an Interprofessional Education (IPE) program (which included simulated case presentations), on the perceived competence and quality of interprofessional (IP) work products of undergraduate social work, nursing, psychology students, and graduate students in speech-language pathology.

Methods: Participants included 123 students who participated in IP colloquiums through reviewing clinical cases, developing IP assessment and treatment goals, and presenting these to fellow students and faculty. Pre- and post-testing using IPEC Competency Self-Assessment Tool was used for assessment. Does the Citizenship Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment confer United States citizenship on individuals born in American Samoa? How does one reconcile the competing values of preserving a unique culture and receiving the full protections of the U.S. Constitution? These were the issues brought before the court in Fitisemanu v. U.S.

American Samoa is the only U.S. territory where individuals born there are born as U.S. nationals, rather than U.S. citizens.
