Multimodel And Multidiagnostic Ensemble-Based Deep Convective Area Forecast For Aviation Operations Using The Global Unified Model And Korean Integrated Model, Yi-June Park, Jung-Hoon Kim, Dan-Bi Lee, Hyun-Joo Choi, Soo-Hyun Kim, Matthias Steiner, Seung Hee Kim

Institute for ECHO Articles and Research

To provide safe and efficient guidance for aircraft operation to avoid deep convective areas (DCAs) in Korea and broader East Asia, we developed a multimodel and multidiagnostic ensemble (MMDE)-based forecast system. This system utilizes two global numerical weather prediction (NWP) models based on the Unified Model (UM) and the Korean Integrated Model (KIM) operated by the Korea Meteorological Administration. To predict hazardous weather conditions, we defined DCAs using ground-based radar mosaic data where the 15-dBZ echo-top height exceeds flight level (FL) 250 (about z = 6.5 km) and FL350 (about z = 9 km). For predictors, we employed a …

Increasing The Robustness Of A Control System For A Complex Dynamic Plant By Correcting Nonlinearity In The Warping Process, Tukhtamurod Khayitmurodovich Avezov, Zokhid Ergashboyevich Iskandarov

Chemical Technology, Control and Management

The paper discusses the challenges of enhancing the robustness of a control system for a complex dynamic plant by addressing nonlinearity in the warping process. Devices that ensure the stability of the control system against parameter non-stationarity on the warping machine are referred to as state controllers. The operating principle of these devices relies on providing artificial nonlinearity to the rear connection circuit of the control system's actuator. However, this nonlinearity is implemented using components that consider the parameters of low control quality. Therefore, it is necessary to continuously adjust the nonlinearity parameters to, on one hand, reduce the load …

Chemistry Faculty Research & Creative Works

Quantitative, reversible water vapor sorption is in rising demand for applications ranging from home appliances to atmospheric water harvesting. However, most sorbents suffer from low water-uptake capacities, nonreusability, and especially high regeneration temperatures. This study addresses this challenge by introducing polybenzoxazine- (PBO) and polybenzodiazine-derived (PBDAZ) carbon aerogels as reversible high-capacity desiccants. PBO and PBDAZ aerogels were prepared from structurally related monomers via HCl-catalyzed ring opening polymerization. Both types of aerogels were first aromatized at 200–240 °C under air or O2 and then were carbonized at 800 °C under Ar. These as-prepared carbon aerogels were further etched at 1000 °C under …

Long-Range Quantum Entanglement In Dielectric Mu-Near-Zero Metamaterials, Olivia Mello, Larissa Vertchenko, Seth Nelson, Adrien Debacq, Durdu Guney, Eric Mazur, Michaël Lobet Sep 2025

Long-Range Quantum Entanglement In Dielectric Mu-Near-Zero Metamaterials, Olivia Mello, Larissa Vertchenko, Seth Nelson, Adrien Debacq, Durdu Guney, Eric Mazur, Michaël Lobet

Michigan Tech Publications

Entanglement is paramount in quantum information processing. Many quantum systems suffer from spatial decoherence in distances over a wavelength and cannot be sustained over short time periods due to dissipation. However, long range solutions are required for the development of quantum information processing on chip. Photonic reservoirs mediating the interactions between qubits and their environment are suggested. Recent research takes advantage of extended wavelength inside near-zero refractive index media to solve the long-range problem along with less sensitivity on the position of quantum emitters. However, those recent proposals use plasmonic epsilon near-zero waveguides that are intrinsically lossy. Here, we propose …

Performance Of Reinforced Concrete Wall With Discrete Frp Boundary Element Retrofit, Katelyn Lowry, Roger Biddle, Peter Laursen, Anahid A. Behrouzi, Cole Mcdaniel

Architectural Engineering

This paper presents experimental results for a lightly reinforced concrete (LRC) shear wall retrofitted with discrete fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) strips at the boundary zones. The performance of this wall was evaluated through cyclic lateral load testing and compared with a wall retrofitted with continuous FRP at the boundary zones (Duong et al., 2024). Test results showed that the wall retrofitted with discrete strips exhibited a flexural tensile failure characterized by wide flexural cracks confined between FRP strips and rebar fracture at high drifts, while maintaining displacement compatibility and axial load capacity beyond strength degradation. Compared to the continuous FRP retrofit, …

Algorithms For The Synthesis Of Adaptive Control Systems Based On The Speed-Gradient Method, Oxunjon Boborayimov Sep 2025

Algorithms For The Synthesis Of Adaptive Control Systems Based On The Speed-Gradient Method, Oxunjon Boborayimov

Chemical Technology, Control and Management

This paper discusses the synthesis algorithms for adaptive control systems based on the speed-gradient method. Adaptive control systems with implicit reference and adjustable models are synthesized using speed-gradient techniques, which reduce the requirements for the main control loop structure and the completeness of measurement data. Stable adaptive decentralized control algorithms are developed for a class of interconnected systems with nonlinear local dynamics and uncertainties, ensuring the stability of individual subsystems and the overall system while accounting for their interactions. To incorporate inter-subsystem interactions into the overall control law, an adaptation algorithm based on the speed-gradient method is introduced. A synthesis …
