The Role Of Rhyme In Children’S Word Learning, Tengwen Fan Jul 2026

The Role Of Rhyme In Children’S Word Learning, Tengwen Fan

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

Rhyme increases the phonological similarity of phrases individuals hear and enhances recall from working memory. The present study explores whether rhyme aids word learning in children and examines the underlying neural mechanisms through which rhyme facilitates word learning. Thirty-four children between 6 and 8 years old completed a word learning task where they were exposed to 15 nonwords (NWs), four times each, in the sentence-final position as their EEG was recorded. Participants were randomly assigned to either a Rhyme or No-Rhyme group, where the NWs rhymed or did not rhyme with a prime real word in the sentence, respectively, during …

“Innocent” Electrolytes Can Influence Organic Electrosynthetic Selectivity, Zachary A. Nguyen, Nhu H. Quach, Mayank Tanwar, Joshua A. Beeler, Kevin Mcfadden, Dylan G. Boucher, Matthew Neurock, Shelley D. Minteer

Chemistry Faculty Research & Creative Works

Organic electrosynthesis has emerged as a powerful strategy for leveraging electricity in organic synthesis. Despite its growing popularity, the fundamental molecular interactions governing electrochemical systems remain poorly understood. Many electrosynthetic reactions show strong dependence on the identity of the allegedly inert supporting electrolyte, which can significantly impact yields and selectivity, yet the physical origins of these effects are largely unexplored. A mechanistic understanding of electrolyte effects would enable more rational reaction design for applications. Here, we use cyclic voltammetry to investigate cobalt-based metal–carbon bond homolysis and elucidate how common supporting electrolytes influence reaction rates. Bulk electrolysis experiments further reveal how …

Biharmonic Curves In Warped Product Manifolds I ×FMN(C), Şaban Güvenç, Ci̇han Özgür Jul 2026

Biharmonic Curves In Warped Product Manifolds I ×FMN(C), Şaban Güvenç, Ci̇han Özgür

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

We explore the geometric properties of biharmonic curves in warped product manifolds of the form I ×f Mn(c), where I is an open interval and Mn(c) is a space of constant curvature. By establishing a main theorem, we analyze four distinct cases to reveal deeper curvature-related characteristics of these curves, including situations where they are slant. Finally, we construct three examples in I ×f S2(1).

Generalized Splines Over ℤ-Modules On Arbitrary Graphs, Gökçen Di̇laver, Selma Altinok

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

Let [[EQUATION]] be a commutative ring with identity and [[EQUATION]] a graph.  Fix an [[EQUATION]]-module [[EQUATION]] for each vertex [[EQUATION]] of [[EQUATION]], an extending generalized spline on [[EQUATION]] is a vertex labeling [[EQUATION]], where for each edge [[EQUATION]] there exists an [[EQUATION]]-module [[EQUATION]] together with homomorphisms [[EQUATION]] and  [[EQUATION]] such that [[EQUATION]]. Extending generalized splines are further generalizations for generalized splines. They can also be considered as generalized splines over modules. In this paper, we prove that some of the results for splines can be extended to extending generalized splines when [[EQUATION]] for each vertex [[EQUATION]], and we define a method …

Seasonal Molecular And Secretory Responses Of Equine Ovarian Follicles To Estradiol And Sulpiride Treatment, Madalyn Autin

LSU Master's Theses

Mares entering seasonal anovulation during winter present a significant challenge for equine breeding programs. Treatment with estradiol cypionate (ECP) and sulpiride in a long-acting vehicle can advance the first ovulation of the season; however, the molecular and secretory mechanisms underlying this response remain unclear. This study compared follicle wall gene expression and endocrine factors (from blood plasma and follicular fluid) among seasonally anovulatory mares responding to ECP-sulpiride (RESP; n = 15, treated with 50 mg ECP and 3 g sulpiride), mares undergoing natural spring transition (ST; n = 16, vehicle-treated only), and mares cycling during the summer ovulatory season (SOV; …

Ensuring both strong security and strict privacy preservation in IoMT environments remains a fundamental and unresolved challenge.

This dissertation investigates the design and evaluation of robust and privacy-preserving intrusion detection systems (IDS) for IoMT networks using advanced machine learning techniques. The research first examines the effectiveness …

Impact Of Asphalt Binder Chemical Composition On The Performance Of Asphalt Mixture., Sagar Parajuli Jul 2026

Impact Of Asphalt Binder Chemical Composition On The Performance Of Asphalt Mixture., Sagar Parajuli

LSU Master's Theses

Asphalt binder is composed of four chemical fractions, namely, saturates, aromatics, resins, and asphaltenes (SARA). Binders with the same performance grade (PG) can exhibit different chemical compositions due to variability in crude oil sources and refining processes. The objective of this study was to evaluate how such chemical variations influence the mechanical performance of asphalt mixtures at high, intermediate and low temperatures.

Eighteen 12.5-mm nominal Maximum Aggregate Size mixtures were designed using two aggregate types (limestone and gravel), and three binder grades (PG 67-22, PG 70-22m and PG 76-22m), each from three different sources with varying chemical fractions. A suite …

Interstitial Fluid N-Glycans Serve As A Proxy For Serum Biomarker Discovery In A Pilot Study, Radka Saldova, Talus K. Gaymore, Caitriona Walsh, Eder Zavala, Paula M. Mendes

Student Papers, Posters & Projects

Protein glycosylation is the most prevalent post-translational modification and is known to undergo profound alterations in disease. While serum N-glycosylation has been extensively studied, interstitial fluid is gaining prominence as a minimally invasive biomarker source, underscored by the widespread clinical adoption of wearable glucose monitors in diabetic patients. However, the glycomic landscape of interstitial fluid remains largely unexplored. Here, we have performed a comparative analysis of the N-glycome from interstitial fluid and matched plasma from five healthy volunteers using liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry and exoglycosidase digestions. Strikingly, the interstitial fluid N-glycome closely shows overlapping profiles with the plasma of each …

On Construction Of Mannheim Curves With Myller Configuration, Zehra İşbi̇li̇r, Bahar Doğan Yazici, Murat Tosun

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In this study, our aim is to strengthen the results of the existing literature on the concept of Mannheim curves by using the natural and idiosyncratic structure of Myller configuration. For this purpose, we examine Mannheim curves with Frenet-type frame in Myller configuration for Euclidean 3-space E3 and Euclidean 4-space E4. Since the classical Frenet frames in E3 and E4 are special cases of Frenet-type frames with Myller configuration in E3 and E4, and because of the special and natural structure of the Myller configuration, the Mannheim curves with Frenet frames in …

A New Characterization Of Globally Conformal Kenmotsu Manifolds And Lagrangian Submersions, Beran Pi̇ri̇nççi̇, Çağrihan Çi̇men, Deni̇z Ulusoy, Hakan Mete Taştan

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

We give a characterization theorem for a globally conformal Kenmotsu manifold with an illustrative example. Then we study Riemannian, antiinvariant and Lagrangian submersions from globally conformal Kenmotsu manifolds. Initially, we show that the gradient vector field of the conformal transformation and the Lee vector field of the total manifold of a Riemannian submersion is horizontal when the characteristic vector field is a horizontal vector field. We give necessary and sufficient conditions for the integrability and totally geodesicness of vertical and horizontal distributions of antiinvariant and Lagrangian submersions whose total manifolds are globally conformal Kenmotsu. We also give a necessary and …

Generalized Submaximality And Paracompactness In Ideal Topological Spaces Via Δβ*-𝔍-Open Sets, Chawalit Boonpok, Areeyuth Sama-Ae Jul 2026

Generalized Submaximality And Paracompactness In Ideal Topological Spaces Via Δβ*-𝔍-Open Sets, Chawalit Boonpok, Areeyuth Sama-Ae

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

This paper explores the notions of δβ*-𝔍-submaximality and δβ*-𝔍-paracompactness within ideal topological spaces, viewing them as natural generalizations of the traditional concepts of submaximality and paracompactness. These concepts arise naturally in the context of ideal topology, where an ideal 𝔍 on a topological space provides additional structure for analyzing topological properties. It focuses on the study of submaximal spaces by employing δβ*-𝔍-open sets, which serve as fundamental building blocks for understanding the topological behavior in ideal spaces. Furthermore, the work provides multiple characterizations of δβ*-𝔍-paracompact spaces and examines how this property behaves …

Analysis And Categorization Of Second-Order Linear Partial Dynamic Equations On Time Scales, Svetlin G. Georgiev, Jervin Zen Lobo, Sanket Tikare Jul 2026

Analysis And Categorization Of Second-Order Linear Partial Dynamic Equations On Time Scales, Svetlin G. Georgiev, Jervin Zen Lobo, Sanket Tikare

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In this paper, we obtain the canonical form of second-order linear partial dynamic equations in two independent variables on time scales, together with the identity for the characteristic quadratic form. This is then used to classify these equations as hyperbolic, elliptic, or parabolic. We deduce the characteristic equations in each case, determine their roots, and provide the corresponding characteristic curves. In one case, we derive the generalized Beltrami equations on time scales. Suitable examples involving equations of interest are explored, and the developed theory is illustrated through these examples.

A Modest Proposal For Discourse Analysis In Nonbinary Communities: Method And Case Study, Nikoli Michael Daigneault

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

While linguists have long used discourse analysis to study language variation in binary and nonnormative gender groups, nonbinary people have often been excluded from analyses or treated without a nonbinary-informed framework. Nevertheless, nonbinary language use can provide key insights into the relationship between gender and language. In this thesis, I propose Nonbinary Discourse Analysis, a set of recommendations and best practices for conducting discourse analysis in nonbinary communities. These methods are informed by previous empirical research on nonnormative gender identities and theoretical work in trans linguistics (Zimman, 2020) and trans epistemologies (Nordmarken, 2019; Raclaw, in press). To demonstrate the methodology, …

Transcriptomic And Genomic Insights Into Nutrient Stress Responses And Subgenome Evolution In Chenopodium, Ashley Kathleen Marcheschi Jul 2026

Transcriptomic And Genomic Insights Into Nutrient Stress Responses And Subgenome Evolution In Chenopodium, Ashley Kathleen Marcheschi

Theses and Dissertations

Chenopodium is a diverse genus of nutritionally and ecologically important species in the Amaranthaceae family. This thesis investigates two outstanding questions in the genus: how Chenopodium quinoa responds transcriptionally to nutrient deficiency and how Australian Chenopodium species are related through their subgenomic ancestry and evolutionary history. First, we characterized transcriptomic responses of C. quinoa to deficiencies of twelve essential macro- and micronutrients across leaf and root tissues using RNA sequencing. Leaves showed the strongest responses under nitrogen, potassium, magnesium, and zinc deficiency, while roots responded more evenly across conditions. Recurring responses included suppression of photosynthesis, remodeling of translational machinery, reactive …
