Factsheet: Protecting Oral Tradition By Promoting Oral Health Among Native Elders In North Dakota, Shawnda Schroeder

Native Elders (65+) in the United States are 2.5 times more likely to have untreated cavities than non-Native Elders (40% compared to 16%). Native Elders are also twice as likely to have severe gum disease (20% compared to 9%). This factsheet shares the connection between oral health and overall health, and ways to take care of teeth later in life.

Taking care of children’s teeth early helps them start school ready to learn, without pain or urgent dental needs. Over the last five years, however, the percentage of kindergartners in North Dakota who had never visited the dentist had increased from 32% during the 2021-21 school year to nearly one in two (49%) in the most recent school year. These data and other trends from the North Dakota school-based sealant program are presented in this infographic.

As hybrid and remote work continues, special libraries are continually evolving to meet the needs of their communities. This includes remote and hybrid researchers at the University of North Dakota’s Energy & Environmental Research Center (EERC). While the EERC is physically located in eastern North Dakota, EERC employees are scattered throughout Mountain Plains Library Association states. Using embedded librarianship principles, the EERC’s Library & Information Services team fulfills complex and time-sensitive information needs by providing creative solutions and building partnerships with researchers.

Many barriers exist when teaching and learning mathematics. Although the mathematics curriculum is rigid and rigorous by design it is often not culturally relevant for the students engaging with the content. As a result, many students of color do not have an appropriate amount of representation to connect to a subject area that already seems exclusionary. Arkansas is not a notable state. It is often confused with Kansas or Alabama. It is difficult for most Americans to find on a map. Perhaps Arkansas has few distinctions. However, it is the only place in the country where a tenant can be thrown in jail for missing a rental payment. The legal landscape of Arkansas is unique in many ways, primarily in its old-fashioned, even archaic, view of property law.

Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) is one of the most enigmatic, intricate issues of contemporary psychiatry. In the Metaphysical Disputations (1597), Francisco Suárez asserts that the human intellect, because it is imperfect, must make use of determinate mental fictions in order to know “real being” (ens reale). In this dissertation, I reconstruct why and how this should be the case. I show that the supreme imperfection of our intellect implies our embodiment, which in turn implies our inability to know any being entirely as it is in itself. To compensate for this inability, we humans must make use of both “beings of reason” (entia rationis) and “nonbeings of reason” (non entia rationis). In the process of …

This volume constitutes the final report of the large-scale salvage excavations directed by Gil Tahal on behalf of the IAA in 1993–1994 at the site of Khirbat ‘Amra, in the north-central area of the Be’er Sheva‛ Valley. The excavations revealed architectural remains and finds dated mainly to the Hellenistic until the Early Islamic periods, in addition to scantier remains or isolated finds from the Chalcolithic period, the Iron Age II and the Ottoman period. Khirbat ‘Amra is one of the largest multiperiod sites in the Be’er Sheva‛ Valley, specifically in the Byzantine and Early Islamic periods. Furthermore, Tahal’s excavations were …

This case study shows how Ateneo de Manila, a private Philippine university, began its sustainability journey in 2008, maneuvered barriers to introduce collaborative academic programs in sustainability in 2015, and continues with its aspirations through committing to be a Laudato Si’ University in 2022. Stakeholder engagement and sustainability leadership were big factors in raising awareness, changing institutional practices, embedding sustainable technologies, and generating sustainability reports during the first seven years. Social capital, encompassing networks, trust, and shared norms among community members, underpins the success of community development initiatives. This study examines how deliberate efforts to strengthen social capital influence organizational effectiveness, participant engagement, and long‐term sustainability in four urbanbased service‐learning projects in Metro Manila, Philippines.
