As rising temperatures increase the rate of polar ice cap melt, the Arctic is rapidly becoming a region of significant geopolitical interest, creating the potential for a revived Great Powers struggle. A key consideration surrounding potential conflict for democracies is the role of official government secrecy in foreign policy decision-making. This particular study examines the intersection of the two topics, creating a model of understanding and predicting U.S. government deception in conflicts. Lawyers are accustomed to thinking of constitutional law as a familiar binary: Either a given governmental policy or practice is constitutional and therefore permitted, or unconstitutional and forbidden. But not all constitutional laws are created equal. A state practice which may be constitutional in concept (such as the death penalty) may, in some or many applications, violate specific constitutional rules and become impermissible. When a policy which has been affirmed to be constitutional in general repeatedly runs up against problems as-applied, a legal tension emerges: can the state implement the policy or not? This Note argues that the marketplace of ideas may not always be a workable theory for the election misinformation that pervades social media platforms. Social media is a unique medium because it does not have the same safeguards as television, radio, and newspapers that are used to filter out false claims and information. Due to the lack of safeguards and the algorithms that promote misinformed posts, social media platforms provide a thriving environment for election misinformation. Background: The Ponseti method is accepted as an effective primary conservative treatment for idiopathic clubfoot (IC) using serial casting, percutaneous Achilles tenotomy, and prolonged bracing. The outcomes of its use in treating rigid clubfoot in arthrogryposis are unclear. This study assesses the outcomes of the Ponseti method in children with IC and arthrogrypotic clubfoot at an average age of 10 years.

Methods: Outcomes of the Ponseti method were retrospectively studied in ambulatory children ages 8.0 to 12.9 years in the gait lab between 2004 and 2024. Children were excluded due to the presence of nonidiopathic or nonarthrogryposis-related clubfoot and history …

Analog circuits are essential to electronic systems due to their variety of critical functions. Catastrophic faults, such as short- and open-circuit faults, can stop the circuit from functioning. Meanwhile, parametric faults such as drift due to temperature fluctuations, noise in components, and power supply issues cause the circuit to operate beyond its range. The advent of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM)technology has revolutionized diabetes management, facilitating real-time blood glucose assessment that optimizes insulin therapy and dietary modifications, thereby significantly enhancing patient outcomes. This study presents comprehensive modeling, simulation, and integration of a continuous glucose monitoring system on-chip, featuring an optimized electrochemical glucose sensor equippedwith dual-energy harvesting units. In the assessment of glucose sensor performance at optimized conditions, the simulated characteristic curve showed a sensitivity of 8063 mA. m mol−1 at a working electrode width of 90 μm and height of 200 μm. This study presents a groundbreaking methodology for optimizing the operational efficiency of a three-stage boost DC-DC cascaded converter through the application of a Random Forest(RF) machine learning algorithm. A novel figure of merit is meticulously formulated to quantitatively evaluate the converter’s performance, focusing on critical metrics such as power conversion efficiency, output DC ripple levels, and response time. The Random Forest model is trained on a comprehensive dataset encompassing a wide range of resistive and capacitive design parameters, with the figure of merit serving as the output indicator. Patients with musculoskeletal infections (MSKI) undergo several laboratory tests. To promote laboratory stewardship, our Infectious diseases (ID) division recommended the following frequencies for labs: 1) C-reactive protein (CRP) every 2-3 days until >50% reduction while >3mg/dL, otherwise weekly until normal, 2) Sedimentation rate (ESR) at the start of therapy and end if > 20mm/hr initially, 3) Complete blood cell count (CBC) at the start of therapy and when transitioning to oral therapy if WBC is initially elevated. Baseline data showed that of 42 children evaluated between July 2023-May 2024, only 15 (35.7%) had a CBC and 13 (30.95%) had a CRP …

Lawmakers and technology companies are regulating online sexuality in the name of feminism. Whereas libertarian ideals dominated early debates about internet governance, "safety" has become the rallying cry to regulate online activity in the age of Big Tech. Legislators across the political spectrum and companies around the world are devising interventions meant to keep people - and especially women safe from the risks of online sexuality. Through law and technology, they target everything from privacy invasions to unwanted messages to sexual deepfakes. We call this regulatory and ideological trend Big Tech feminism.

Objectives. To document transgender Floridians’ service needs before and after antitransgender state legislation.

Methods. We conducted descriptive and change point analyses of intake survey data collected by a transgender-led community-based organization in Florida from 701 clients who requested services between 2018 and 2024.

Results. Findings show enrollment for services increased during the rise in antitransgender legislation, with pressing needs for legal and financial support for name changes and gender-affirming health care. The percentage of clients requesting sexual health resources increased, especially among Black clients.

Conclusions. Findings underscore the urgency of (1) understanding the impact of antitransgender legislation on service needs, …

Background

Systemic low-grade inflammation, which is characterized by increased counts of blood leukocytes (white blood cells, WBCs), can lead to hypertension, while reduced WBC counts caused by the use of some substances, e.g., alcohol, can also lead to hypertension. However, there have been no studies on the association between WBC counts and the risk of hypertension in young adults.

Methods

This cohort study conducted in Taiwan included a total of 2351 military personnel who were aged 18–39 years, were free of baseline hypertension and were followed up for incident hypertension from 2014 to the end of 2020. Resting blood pressure …

School level administrators play a critical role in the implementation of obligations set forth by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) in their schools. This dissertation examines the representation of invisible disability and neurodivergence in nineteenth-century British literature, arguing that literary texts both reflect and shape cultural understandings of disability. While much scholarship has focused on visible or physical impairments in Victorian fiction, comparatively little attention has been given to characters whose behaviors, emotions, or identities align with what today might be described as neurodivergence.

Though ostensibly gender neutral, the word “home” carries with it the baggage of gender, particularly womanhood and motherhood. In English, for instance, “homemaking” is synonymous with “housewifery;” in Filipino, the mother is described as ilaw ng tahanan (“light of the home”). Housing, as well, has a similar neutral connotation; yet, when we consider the impact of urban housing crises, women are disproportionately affected. Embiopterans are reliant on silk for protection and produce the finest silk fibers known in nature. This report compares silk–water interactions for four species representing two different lifestyles: two tropical arboreal species that feed on lichens on bark and two detritivores from arid regions that typically live in leaf litter and underground. Water droplets placed on spun silk transformed the fibrous top layer to a film. Arboreal embiopterans spun a denser silk covering than did the detritivores. The films that formed after exposure to water were also denser for the arboreal species. A possible underlying cause for the difference between …

Fingertip injuries, particularly of the index and middle fingers, account for major accidents which occur in industrial regions due to machinery usage, causing sharp cuts or crush injuries of the tips. The treatment of these fingertip injuries previously was amputation and stump closure. As the advancement of flaps occurred, there came many flaps mentioned to treat these tip injuries. Many of these flaps had failed to provide the same functional and aesthetic outcome following surgery.
