Background: Parental satisfaction is a key quality indicator in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). While the EMPATHIC-30 questionnaire is widely used internationally, no validated German version exists for NICU settings. This study aimed to translate, culturally adapt, and validate the EMPATHIC-30G for use in German-speaking NICUs. Methods: A structured Delphi process involving multidisciplinary experts and parents guided the translation and cultural adaptation, including forward-backward translation and cognitive debriefing. The German version was validated in a prospective observational study at a Swiss NICU. Parents of infants hospitalized for ≥24 h completed the questionnaire at discharge. Defendants’ response brief contains a laundry list of all the ways they think Mona Murillo fell short in trying to vindicate her rights to be free from sex discrimination and retaliation while incarcerated at Salinas Valley State Prison. They devote page after page to cataloging the regulations that govern her claims, describing the intricacies of the three-tiered grievance system, and recounting her repeated efforts to navigate that morass. And from all of that, they draw the conclusion that Murillo’s lawsuit should be thrown out of court.

BackgroundPatient and Public Involvement (PPI) is a fundamental part of health research. The role of PPI in implementation research, which considers the transfer of evidence into practice, is often less well defined than in studies focussing on recruitment of individual patients and clinical outcomes, and there is limited guidance available. While Deep Neural Networks (DNNs) have driven major breakthroughs in artificial intelligence, their internal complexity often makes their behavior hard to explain, resulting in the well-known “black box” dilemma. This thesis addresses the challenge of interpretability in DNNs and deep reinforcement learning (DRL) through two main contributions.

In Part I, we revisit and extend the use of Deep RAM Networks (DRNs) within the Arcade Learning Environment (ALE), showing that, with modern architectures and careful hyperparameter tuning, RAM-based agents can achieve performance competitive with established pixel-based baselines on Atari 2600 games, while offering additional advantages for research and analysis. Silver-haired Bats (Lasionycteris noctivagans) are a migratory species found throughout the United States, southern Canada, and northern Mexico. Throughout their range, Silver-haired Bats roost in various tree species, generally within decaying features like cavities and exfoliated bark. Herein we report on additional reproductive and seasonal data as well as the first data on trees used as roost sites by Silver-haired Bats in Nebraska. We captured individuals along a small tributary of the North Platte River at Ash Hollow State Historical Park, Garden County, Nebraska, and tracked bats to their roosts. Mutations in the myosin-binding protein C (MYBPC3) gene, particularly variants of uncertain significance (VUS), are associated with cardiomyopathies. This systematic review aims to analyze the impact of VUS mutations in MYBPC3 on transcripts and proteins in cardiomyocytes. A comprehensive literature search across multiple databases (i.e., PubMed, Google Scholar, and ScienceDirect) identified relevant studies focusing on the effects of these mutations on transcript and protein levels. Additionally, exclusion criteria were applied, and studies were excluded if they did not focus on cases analyzing transcript levels and MYBPC3 protein behavior in cardiomyocytes harboring VUS mutations. Dengue fever, caused by the dengue virus (DENV), poses a significant public health challenge, particularly in tropical regions. This study aimed to detect flavivirus presence, DENV serotypes, and knockdown-resistance (kdr) mutations in mosquito samples collected from Mengare Island, Gresik, Indonesia. A cross-sectional experimental design was employed, utilizing reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) for flavivirus detection and serotyping, as well as for identifying kdr mutations. Ribonucleic acid (RNA) extraction was performed using the Quick-RNA\texttrademark Miniprep Plus Kit (Zymo Research, Irvine, CA, USA), followed by RT-PCR with specific primers for DENV serotypes 1–4 and kdr mutations (V1016G and F1534C). …

Exposure to UV-B radiation accounts for approximately 90% of skin damage, leading to aging characterized by dryness and wrinkles. Thrombolysis is the standard treatment for ischemic stroke; however, the rate of thrombolysis administration remains low. We present a concise, step-by-step reduction of a symmetric resistor network to its equivalent resistance 𝑅₁₂, emphasizing visual reasoning over algebraic brute force. By redrawing the circuit to expose symmetry, we identify equipotential node pairs joined by ideal conductors; the “bottom” bridging resistor is shown to carry zero current and is removed from consideration. The remaining topology reduces by two repeated series combinations, where each left/right pair of equal resistors collapses to 2R. The final network is a three-branch parallel combination (2𝑅∥𝑅∥2𝑅), yielding the closed-form result 𝑅₁₂=𝑅/2. The procedure illustrates three transferable techniques for introductory circuit …

Measuring synaptic efficacy and defining the rules for induction of synaptic plasticity at identified connections in the mammalian brain is essential for understanding how synapses contribute to learning and memory. This requires new approaches to selectively evoke presynaptic activity and measure postsynaptic responses with high spatiotemporal resolution and high sensitivity over long periods in vivo. Here we develop an all-optical approach to probe synaptic plasticity at identified cerebellar synapses in awake, behaving mice. Schistosomiasis is caused by parasitic flatworms (Schistosoma). The disease in humans can be caused by seven different species of Schistosoma: S. mansoni, S. japonicum, S. haematobium, S. malayensis, S. mekongi, S. guineensis and S. intercalatum, as well as by hybrids between species, including livestock schistosome species. People are infected when exposed to infested water and the parasite larvae penetrate the skin. Poor and rural communities are typically the most affected, and the general population who lives in affected areas and is exposed to contaminated water is at risk. Background: Outdoor air pollution is a suspected risk factor for childhood cancer, and there is some evidence that greenness may reduce cancer risk. We examined relationships between prenatal exposure to ambient fine particle air pollution [particulate matter < 2.5 µg/m3 (PM2.5)], greenness, and childhood cancer risk in Minnesota.

Methods: Cases included individuals born in the state of Minnesota and reported to the Minnesota Cancer Reporting System between 2000 and 2014 (n = 1272, ages 0-14 years at diagnosis) and birth year-matched cancer-free controls (n = 5245). We used Network Common Data Form to estimate monthly PM2.5 exposure and the normalized difference vegetation index for census tract-level greenness. We estimated ORs and …

Would the availability of a federal cause of action for domestic terrorism increase the risk of social media providers being held liable for facilitating domestic terrorism? Recently, there have been discussions concerning the role social media plays in acts of domestic terrorism. Many acts of domestic terrorism have been linked to the perpetrator's involvement with online groups who harbor similar goals.

During an inquiry into the validity of a verdict, Federal Rule of Evidence 606(b) prohibits jurors from testifying about statements made or incidents that occurred during jury deliberations, including jurors' subjective mental processes used in reaching the verdict. This rule is often called the "no-impeachment" rule. The no-impeachment rule promotes the finality of verdicts, facilitates free and vibrant discussion by jurors without fear their verdict will be questioned, and ensures that jurors are not harassed by litigants seeking to challenge their verdict. Externalities caused by religious exemptions have been getting the spotlight again in light of a case the U. S. Supreme Court will hear this term: Fulton v. City of Philadelphia. Some argue that religious individuals should be required to internalize the costs they impose on third parties and thus should be denied the right to practice that harmful behavior. These new progressive theories about harm trade on rhetoric and normative intuitions regarding externalities and costs. Despite an academic consensus that easing land use regulations to increase the supply of housing can help lower housing prices, local opposition to new development remains prevalent. Onerous zoning regulations and resistance to new housing persist not only in wealthy suburbs, but also in lower income urban neighborhoods. In addition to making housing more expensive, such policies increase residential segregation, exacerbate urban sprawl, and have detrimental environmental effects. If increasing supply tends to reduce costs, what explains this opposition, particularly during a period of rising housing costs?

A lingering provision of a major Reconstruction Era law, the Enforcement Act of 1870, 28 U.S.C. § 1344, grants federal courts jurisdiction over election contests arising from alleged Fifteenth Amendment violations, except for the positions of presidential elector, member of Congress, and state legislator. Some courts have erroneously construed this provision as categorically denying the federal judiciary subject-matter jurisdiction over any constitutional challenges, including by voters, to the outcomes of presidential, congressional, or state legislative elections. This pernicious line of authority periodically re-emerges to wrongly preclude litigants from attempting to vindicate their right to vote in federal court.

For the most part, scholars of supernatural horror do not consider J. R. R. Tolkien a contributor to that genre, a conclusion supported by many Tolkien specialists. And yet, horror plays a major role in many of Tolkien’s works, specifically The Lord of the Rings. Indeed, “Fog on the Barrow-downs” is basically a tale of supernatural horror that Tolkien has incorporated into his epic.
