In this article, we examine how southern white Christian secondary mathematics teacher candidates reflected on racial inequities in academic opportunities and school discipline after engaging with data sets highlighting such disparities. Using a lens of racial noticing, informed by Leonardo’s (2009) conceptualization of whiteness as a racial discourse that normalizes white dominance, we analyze candidates’ written reflections to identify how they interpreted and responded to issues of race in mathematics education. Two dominant themes emerged: the normalization of implicit biases and the tensions between aspiring to objectivity and acknowledging subjectivity in educational practices. Organizations must find ways to sustain nurses and healthcare workers beyond traditional human resource programs and focus on unhealthy practice environments. A program evaluation was conducted to determine whether developing Caritas behaviors through a Caring Science program improves compassion satisfaction in nurses and interdisciplinary teams professional quality of life.

Exploring The Black Woman Experience Related To Sexual Practice, Sexual Identity, And Sexual Expression: A Qualitative Study, Ashley V. Rodriguez

This study revealed the complex interplay between personal identities and social constructs, focusing on Black-identifying women and their lived experiences with sex, sexuality, and sexual expression. Over centuries, societal influences depicted Black women as hypersexual, simultaneously exposing them to criticism, shame, and judgment for their sexual expression and meaning-making related to sex and sexuality. Consequently, Black women remain a high-risk demographic for unsafe sexual practices and sexually transmitted infections. Using intersectionality theory and Black feminist theory, this study explored how Black-identifying women give meaning to sex, sexuality, and sexual expression as they shape the Black feminine experience. The purpose of this basic qualitative study was to explore teachers’ perspectives on the benefits and challenges of gamification-based assessments. Oral health disparities continue to present a significant public health challenge for older adults in the United States, particularly among racial minority and low-income populations. Despite national discussions around healthcare equity, there remains limited empirical insight into how race and income influence dental service utilization among Medicare beneficiaries. In this quantitative, cross-sectional study, the extent to which these demographic factors predicted oral healthcare utilization, using nationally representative data from the 2021 Medicare Current Beneficiary Survey, was assessed. Creating Healthy Work Environments (CHWE)

Compassion fatigue occurs in unhealthy and violent environments. This qualitative study interviewed 53 emergency department nurses at a Level I trauma center. The ED nurses expressed frustration with addicted patients, negative responses, and decreased job satisfaction. Creating a healthy work environment includes fostering self-awareness and strategies to avoid compassion fatigue.

The AACN Healthy Work Environment Standards include essential evidence-based guidelines for improving nursing and patient outcomes. However, the centering of dominant groups limits the implementation of these standards. This presentation examines strategies for interprofessional healthcare teams to become authentic allies with nondominant groups and to create healthy work environments.

PURPOSE: Coats disease is a rare, retinal vascular disorder characterized by telangiectasias, aneurysmal dilations, and progressive exudative retinal detachment. Limited understanding of the disease warranted the need to identify controversial issues through an extensive literature search and a debate and discussion among international panels of experts.

METHODS: Extensive literature search was done on multiple aspects of the disease-classification patterns, disease, Coats-plus, and Coats-like response. Aims: This report describes implementation of the SMART epilepsy self-management (ESM) program in a community setting. Methods: SMART was implemented by 3 epilepsy-focused social services agencies. Pre/Post outcomes included past 30-day seizure frequency, the 9-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), the 10-item Quality of Life in Epilepsy (QOLIE-10) and the 7-item Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD-7) scale. Results: There have been 8 nurses (mean age 63.6, SD 9.1) and 14 peer educators trained (mean age 44.3, SD 15.8, having epilepsy a mean of 18.2, SD 11.1 years). The Appellate Term affirmed the dismissal of a landlord's holdover petition seeking to evict a rent-stabilized tenant for non-primary residence. The landlord based its claim on the tenant's two-year absence while recovering from a stroke in a rehabilitation facility. The court found the absence excusable for primary residence purposes, supported by evidence of the tenant's discharge plan and return. It further concluded that the landlord was not unfairly surprised by the tenant's medical condition defense, as the petition itself acknowledged the tenant's stroke and need for care, and the tenant's answer had raised the possibility of a reasonable accommodation.

5-Methylcytosine (5mC) is the most common DNA modification in the human genome. Bisulfite conversion combined with short-read sequencing captures this modification at single-nucleotide resolution but introduces PCR duplication bias and limits co-methylation analysis between distant cytosines. To resolve these limitations, we used nanopore long-read sequencing to profile human methylation and performed long-range co-methylation analysis with native DNA modification information. We analyzed the nanopore demo data in the adaptive sampling sequencing targeting the CpG islands and applied the linkage disequilibrium (LD) R to identified methylation haplotype blocks (MHBs). The population of Puerto Rico has been heavily affected by chronic diseases; however, data remains limited on the influence of diabetes mellitus (DM), hypertension, and obesity on the probability of COVID-19 diagnosis. The purpose of this quantitative study was to evaluate the association between non-communicable diseases that included DM, obesity, hypertension, and COVID-19 diagnosis, controlling for age and sex and person exposure in Puerto Rico. The sample consisted of 1,463 participants who underwent a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test for COVID-19 from April 1, 2020, to March 31, 2021. Dysfunction at the centrosome-cilium interface underlies a broad range of ciliopathies. Here, we identify biallelic variants in CEP76, encoding a centrosomal protein, in eight unrelated individuals presenting with neurodevelopmental, ocular, and variable additional multisystem features. Proband-derived fibroblasts and CEP76-depleted RPE1 cells display ciliary deficits, including impaired cilium formation and length, disrupted transition zone architecture, and impaired IFT88-mediated anterograde intraflagellar transport. Zebrafish cep76 mutants recapitulate key clinical phenotypes, and in vitro complementation assays confirm pathogenicity for all tested human disease-associated variants. Alzheimer's disease increases the risk of developing epilepsy together with cognitive decline. Early diagnosis or prediction of parameters associated with epileptic activity can greatly help in managing disease outcomes. Network hyperexcitability is a candidate of interest as a neurophysiological biomarker of Alzheimer's disease. High-frequency oscillations are increasingly recognized as potential biomarkers of hyperexcitability and epileptic activity. However, they have not yet been identified in Alzheimer's disease. BACKGROUND: "Tranq dope"-fentanyl adulterated with xylazine-has complicated the management of opioid withdrawal in emergency departments (EDs). A novel withdrawal protocol was implemented to address these challenges, utilizing concurrent agents to intentionally synergize and potentiate effects. Questions remain about the safety of its components, some of which may prolong the QT interval.

Glycine plays a central role in human metabolism, and an adequate supply is required for synthesizing glutathione (GSH), eliminating excess metabolites as acylglycine via the glycine conjugation detoxification pathway, and maintaining 1-carbon cycle activity. However, glycine is deficient in individuals with severe obesity, which may compromise these pathways and metabolic health. This exploratory study examines whether dietary glycine supplementation could correct glycine deficiency and impairments in glycine-dependent metabolic pathways. 19 participants with severe obesity (BMI 38.3 ± 5.3 kg/m2) were treated with dietary glycine (100 mg/kg/day) for two weeks.
