Monitoring neuromuscular performance across a competitive season is essential for managing training load, recovery, and readiness in elite athletes. Force plate–derived metrics from the hands-on-hips countermovement jump (HOH CMJ) are commonly used to assess neuromuscular status, yet limited longitudinal data exist in NCAA Division I men’s basketball, particularly on game days. The purpose of this study was to examine seasonal changes in HOH CMJ force-time metrics across three competitive phases—non-conference, conference, and postseason—in Division I men’s basketball players.

Digital trace data play an important role determining where and when people will move during migration crises because of their detailed temporal and spatial granularity. Yet, identifying variables that reliably serve as early indicators of movement remains a challenging task. Within this context, we conduct an in-depth analysis of two types of variables that can be constructed from social media data – sentiment and emotion. Sentiment is conceptually broad and easier to detect from social media posts, while emotion is conceptually nuanced and more difficult to determine. Hearing loss affects individuals across the age span and, if left untreated, can lead to developmental delays and health and well-being concerns. This dissertation applies econometric analyses to investigate factors influencing diagnostic outcomes in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), intervention enrollment rates among babies with permanent childhood hearing loss (PCHL), and utilization and hospitalization outcomes among adults with sensory impairment (SI). The first study evaluates the cost-effectiveness of automated auditory brainstem response (aABR) versus transient evoked otoacoustic emissions (TEOAE) for newborn hearing screenings in a Thailand hospital NICU. On The Road To A Better Life? Rural Road And Economic Development In Albania, Santosh Gautam, Ermal Llirjani, Patralekha Ukil

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

This study evaluates the impact of investment in rural roads on household welfare in Albania using a difference-in-differences method. We find that treated households experienced a 35-percentage point increase in the road quality and reduced travel times to the nearest motorable roads. Land and housing values rose significantly, and household heads were less likely to be unemployed, with a shift toward self-employment. While household income did not change significantly, consumption—particularly on non-food items—increased. These findings highlight the welfare-enhancing effects of improved connectivity and suggest that rural infrastructure investments can promote local economic activity.
