The University of Nebraska at Omaha’s Dr. C.C. and Mabel L. Criss Library has a history of conducting kindness audits that evaluate our physical space. The “Kindness Audit” has been an internal effort to reflect on how welcoming, accessible, and responsive our library environment is to all who use it. In Fall 2024, a working group reimagined this effort with a broadened lens: incorporating the physical space, the welcoming atmosphere, and the usability of the library website.

Aqueous Zn-ion batteries (ZIBs) are attractive candidates for large-scale energy storage owing to the abundance, low cost, and intrinsic safety of Zn metal. However, their practical application is hindered by poor cycle stability, especially at low current densities, due to cathode dissolution and limited electrochemically active sites (EAS). Herein, a hydrogel-based cathode comprising ammonium vanadate, carbon black, and a Zn-ion-conducting carboxymethyl chitosan–acrylamide hydrogel matrix doped with Zn(ClO4)2 is reported. This design establishes a continuous Zn-ion-conducting network, thereby maximizing EAS density throughout the electrode volume. Background: The Early Career Librarians Initiative of the South Central Chapter of the Medical Library Association (ECLI) offered a webinar series that addressed topics of interest to new professionals such as networking, goal setting, and salary negotiation. Additionally, the ECLI assessed participant feedback on the series through a program evaluation survey.

Case presentation: ECLI partnered with the Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM), Region 3, to offer six webinars over the course of two years. Attendees were asked to complete a survey. This study is one of the first to describe how new graduate nurses transitioned to practice during the COVID-19 pandemic. Although other studies have expounded upon the experiences of transition to practice for new graduate nurses, few have been conducted during times as far-reaching as a global pandemic.

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a common latent virus that can cause severe disease in immunocompromised individuals and pregnant women. Interleukins (ILs) are crucial for cell-to-cell communication and facilitate precise regulation of the immune response. The current study aimed to evaluate serum IL-35 and IL-39 levels in Iraqi women with CMV, particularly in pregnant women, and investigate their potential involvement in CMV infection and pregnancy. Serum samples were obtained from 115 women (age range:15–29 years), including CMV-infected pregnant women, uninfected pregnant women, CMV-infected non-pregnant women, and healthy non-pregnant women. Sensitive Cloud Point Extraction Method For Determination Of Salbutamol Sulfate In Pharmaceutical Dosage Forms, Ghadah Fadhil

The cloud point extraction (CPE) methodology was utilized to produce a simple, highly sensitive, and environmentally friendly method for preconcentrating and evaluating salbutamol sulfate (SAL) in pharmaceutical dosage forms. Triton X-114 was used as a surfactant to recover the product result from the diazotization coupling between SAL and diazotized 2, 4-dichloroaniline (DCA) by the cloud point extraction process. The product was extracted with non-ionic surfactant micelles and then spectrophotometrically detected at a wavelength of 445 nm. Under ideal conditions, the calibration curve’s linearity (r = 0.9947) ranged from 0.1 to 5.0 μg. mL^–1 of SAL. The results showed …

The history of colonialism in the American West is not just the story of how European people, animals, and technologies invaded Indigenous worlds but also of how these things were engaged, redeployed, countered, rejected, and, in some cases, embraced by native communities. Background: Non-smokers and individuals with minimal smoking history represent a significant proportion of lung cancer cases but are often overlooked in current risk assessment models. Pulmonary nodules are commonly detected incidentally-appearing in approximately 24-31% of all chest CT scans regardless of smoking status. However, most established risk models, such as the Brock model, were developed using cohorts heavily enriched with individuals who have substantial smoking histories. Nurse apprentice/externship programs enhance the nursing workforce by preparing new nurses for smooth transitions to practice. This study assessed new nurses’ experiences over time and compared those who participated as apprentices against those who did not. Research outcomes demonstrated the value of apprenticeships in preparing nurses for COVID-19 workplace environments.

In the past decade, there has been a large focus on extracting these individual proteins for their use in foods and supplements. Fuel adulteration, the practice of blending lower-quality substances like kerosene with gasoline, poses significant challenges for ensuring fuel quality and safety. This study investigates two electromagnetic-based methods for detecting such adulteration: the open-ended coaxial line method and the circular waveguide method. The results reveal that the open-ended coaxial line technique is particularly effective in detecting kerosene contamination, identifying levels as low as 10% by measuring changes in the dielectric constant of the gasoline-kerosene mixture. Operating in the frequency range of 0.25–1.25 GHz, this method captures subtle changes in permittivity. In contrast, the circular waveguide method evaluates contamination by monitoring shifts …

Biometric authentication systems, particularly contactless fingerprint methods, offer enhanced security and convenience across various domains like access control, law enforcement, and finance. Despite these advantages, contactless systems face significant challenges related to image quality, finger orientation, and environmental factors. To address this, our paper presents the first extensive deep learning-based study on contactless fingerprint recognition using a large dataset of 2,143 images from 175 individuals. Our proposed approach integrates state-of-the-art preprocessing techniques with deep learning models to boost identification performance. IMPORTANCE Cancer screening, prevalence, and mortality vary across US counties; the broad set of community factors associated with these differences are not well understood. OBJECTIVE To assess the relative importance of diverse community measures for explaining county-level variance in cancer screening, prevalence, and mortality rates for breast, colorectal, lung, and prostate cancers. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS This geospatial cross-sectional analysis across all US counties used random forest algorithms to estimate the relative importance of 24 community measures—including health behaviors and lifestyle, socioeconomic, and environment factors—as explanatory factors for cancer screening, prevalence, and mortality. Sex-specific division of labour and the associated use of different subsistence techniques by males (e.g. hunting) and females (e.g. gathering) has played an important role in shaping human societies. Skills needed in adulthood are practiced in play during childhood and object play has been proposed to foster tool-use skills necessary for adult subsistence techniques. Here, we investigated sex differences in the ontogeny of object play in Tsimane children in Bolivia to understand its potential role in shaping gender-specific adult roles. Pyridazine has been reported to possess variety of biological activities like antidiabetic, anticancer, anti-AIDS, anti-inflammatory, anticonvulsant and antimicrobial, insecticidal etc. In our study, pyridazine derivatives were synthesized by starting with paracetamol, also known as para hydroxy acetanilide, which does not require a prescription.
