Tlatoani Cuauhtemoczin, El Barrio De Analco, Y La Mexicanidad La Conformidad De Danza Azteca-Chichimeca De Conquista, Jorge A. Garcia

Research and Development Supported by El Centro

In 1521 the Mexica-Tenochca people from Mexico-Tenochtitlan took their last stand against the invasion of the Spanish army and their native allies. The story tells us that during this confrontation the Tlatoani Cuauhtemoczin addressed the people and gave them their last command. He told them that “our sun has concealed itself. Our sun has hidden itself and has left us in darkness. However, we know that it will return. It will come forth again and once again give us light. But while it remains in the house of resting and transformation, we should unite, concealing deep within our hearts all …

Topology Optimization Of Space Frames Via Geometry Projection, Manal Tahhan Mar 2019

Topology Optimization Of Space Frames Via Geometry Projection, Manal Tahhan

Master's Theses

There is growing interest in space agencies to design lunar habitats for different stages of habitation. In this work, we present a topology optimization method to design a class of these structures consisting of rigid space frames with elements transported from earth and assembled in situ. Since the space frame must be made of stock material for ease of transportation and assembly, this work employs the geometry projection method, which is a topology optimization technique that render designs made exclusively of geometric primitives. This work makes three contributions to the geometry projection method that are necessary for the design of …

Are Family Planning Vouchers Effective In Increasing Use, Improving Equity And Reaching The Underserved? An Evaluation Of A Voucher Program In Pakistan, Moazzam Ali, Syed Khurram Azmat, Hasan Bin Hamza, Md Mizanur Rahman, Waqas Hameed Mar 2019

Are Family Planning Vouchers Effective In Increasing Use, Improving Equity And Reaching The Underserved? An Evaluation Of A Voucher Program In Pakistan, Moazzam Ali, Syed Khurram Azmat, Hasan Bin Hamza, Md Mizanur Rahman, Waqas Hameed

Community Health Sciences

Background: Low modern contraceptive prevalence rate and high unmet need in Pakistan aggravates the vulnerabilities of unintended pregnancies and births contributing to maternal morbidity and mortality. This research aims to assess the effectiveness of a free, single-purpose voucher approach in increasing the uptake, use and better targeting of modern contraceptives among women from the lowest two wealth quintiles in rural and urban communities of Punjab province, Pakistan.
Methods: A quasi-interventional study with pre- and post-phases was implemented across an intervention (Chakwal) and a control district (Bhakkar) in Punjab province (August 2012-January 2015). To detect a 15% increase in modern contraceptive …

Using Residential Location To Assess The Environmental Value-Action Gap Of Students At James Madison University, Emma Martin Mar 2019

Using Residential Location To Assess The Environmental Value-Action Gap Of Students At James Madison University, Emma Martin

James Madison Undergraduate Research Journal (JMURJ)

This study focuses on the environmental value-action gap of students at James Madison University (JMU) in Harrisonburg, Virginia. An environmental value-action gap occurs when a person has pro-environmental beliefs but does not have congruent actions. Over 1,000 JMU students completed a survey of their residence location, environmental values, and environmental actions. Students’ preservation and utilization values were assessed using a 2-Dimensional Model of Ecological Values (2-MEV), and their frequency of environmental actions was assessed through a series of Likert-scaled statements. It was hypothesized that any value-action gap would be wider in students who resided in off-campus housing compared to students …

Peacetime Naval Rearmament, 1933–39: Lessons For Today, Jamie Mcgrath

Naval War College Review

Following World War I, the USN fleet was outdated and undersized, but a time of naval resurgence began in 1933, adding modern ships to the U.S. fleet and revitalizing the American shipbuilding industry. In many ways, this period mirrors the post–Cold War state of the fleet, but the principal actors vary greatly in their level of coordination and commitment to building the Navy the nation needs.

U.S. Conventional Access Strategy: Denying China A Conventional First-Strike Capability, Sam Goldsmith Mar 2019

U.S. Conventional Access Strategy: Denying China A Conventional First-Strike Capability, Sam Goldsmith

Naval War College Review

In the most likely scenario, a high-intensity conflict between the United States and China would be confined to conventional weapons, owing to Beijing’s desire to avoid nuclear escalation. To protect the global security order and the tenuous balance of power on the world stage, the United States and its allies must craft a strategy to deny China this conventional first-strike option.

Surging Second Sea Force: China’S Maritime Law-Enforcement Forces, Capabilities, And Future In The Gray Zone And Beyond, Andrew S. Erickson, Joshua Hickey, Henry Holst

Naval War College Review

As China’s sea services continue to expand, the consolidating China Coast Guard (CCG) has taken the lead as one of the premier sea forces in the region—giving China, in essence, a second navy. With 1,275 hulls and counting, the CCG carries out the maritime law-enforcement activities that dominate the South China Sea as the People’s Republic exerts its claims and postures for dominance.
