Analyzing Surface Spectral Signature Shifts In Fire-Affected Areas Of Elko County Nevada, Ibtihaj Ahmad, Haroon Stephen

This study investigates post-fire vegetation transitions and spectral responses in the Snowstorm Fire (2017) and South Sugarloaf Fire (2018) in Nevada using Landsat 8 Operational Land Imager (OLI) surface reflectance imagery and unsupervised ISODATA classification. By comparing pre-fire and post-fire conditions, we have assessed changes in vegetation composition, spectral signatures, and the emergence of novel land cover types. The results revealed widespread conversion of shrubland and conifer-dominated systems to herbaceous cover with significant reductions in near-infrared reflectance and elevated shortwave infrared responses, indicative of vegetation loss and surface alteration. Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory condition requiring surgical or imaging visualization for definitive diagnosis. How endometriotic lesion characteristics relate to circulating inflammatory markers remains unclear. We evaluated 11 inflammatory biomarkers, including interleukin (IL)-1β, -6, -8, -10, -16, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, thymus and activation regulated chemokine (TARC), monocyte chemotactic protein (MCP)-1, -4, and Interferon gamma-induced protein (IP)-10, in 566 participants with endometriosis from the Women’s Health Study: From Adolescence to Adulthood (A2A), Endometriosis Oxford Care & Research (CaRe) study (ENDOX) and Endometriosis: Natural History, Diagnosis, and Outcome (ENDO) study to evaluate associations with endometriosis characteristics, including macrophenotype (superficial lesions only, …

One of the most common locations for fatal motor vehicle-bicyclist crashes is at intersections, which inherently have a large number of turning conflicts. Reducing these conflicts is a key objective in improving intersection safety across all modes. Of particular concern for bicyclists’ safety at intersections are the conflicts between straight-through bicyclists and motor vehicle right-turns and opposing left-turns. The objective of this research was to develop guidance and tools for transportation practitioners to use to reduce turning conflicts between motor vehicles and bicycles at controlled intersections and improve the safety and comfort of intersections for bicyclists.

Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act has provided broad immunity to online platforms for third-party content which was the foundation for the internet's growth. However, the rise in the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to produce algorithms to curate content to users of online services has blurred the line between being a passive host of third party content and active editorial control. This Note examines the legal, policy, and constitutional implications of applying Section 230 immunity to platforms that use AI to curate and promote third-party content. The recent crisis at Green Hill School highlights the detrimental consequences of severe overcrowding in Washington State’s Juvenile Rehabilitation system—a problem exacerbated by the implementation of the JR to 25 legislation. This Note argues that the juvenile rehabilitation system, which is currently struggling to manage a wide age range of offenders, necessitates a fundamental rethinking of juvenile justice practices. By examining neurological research indicating continued brain development into the mid-twenties, along with the high prevalence of trauma among justice-involved youth, this Note proposes the creation of a dedicated third system of care within the Department of Children, Youth, and Families …

Evidence from literary texts originating from the Mount Merapi-Merbabu milieu in Central Java demonstrates the existence of a variant of the passive marker -in- affix, which has been in use since the early period of Old Javanese: the passive prefix ing-. The six literary texts that serve as the sources for this study indicate that the ing- prefix began to emerge during the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, coinciding with the development of Middle Javanese. In Java today, archery survives as a traditional discipline called jemparingan. Javanese archery involves targeting a pendulum-like target from a shooting distance of 35 to 50 metres. The archers take aim from a cross-legged seated posture (bersila) and typically wear traditional Javanese attire during competitions. Though archery has been practiced in Java for long time, there has been surprisingly little effort to study its rich history. While research indicates that written corrective feedback (WCF) can promote learning of language and writing skills (Ferris, 2004; Bitchener, 2008), both students and teachers report persistent limitations. Students often find written comments difficult to interpret, while teachers consider them time-consuming to provide. Screencast corrective feedback (SCF) offers an alternative by utilizing screen recording technology to deliver audiovisual cues and personalized explanations that can reduce ambiguity and foster rapport (Harper et al., 2012). Bone stress injuries (BSIs) are a prevalent overuse injury in endurance runners, particularly at the distal tibia. These injuries develop when repetitive mechanical loading exceeds the bone’s ability to adapt and recover, leading to microdamage accumulation and, in severe cases, fracture. While both mechanical loading and physiological factors such as bone mineral density (BMD) and energy availability are thought to contribute to BSI risk, they are rarely assessed together, and most mechanical assessments remain confined to laboratory settings. The subpolar North Atlantic (SPNA) is one of the few regions where the deep ocean is in direct contact with the atmosphere, making it a key location for interior ocean ventilation through gas exchange. We use a novel observation-based data product to analyze large-scale patterns of the air-sea flux of oxygen, finding a mean annual flux of 48.1 (Formula presented.) 14.6 Tmol (Formula presented.) from the atmosphere into the ocean integrated over the SPNA ((Formula presented.)
