Healthcare remains a prime target for cyberattacks, with insider misuse and credential compromise posing major risks to Electronic Health Records (EHRs). This thesis introduces a role-aware, explainable anomaly detection and response framework integrated with OpenEMR to address post-authentication threats. Four models—Local Outlier Factor (LOF), Isolation Forest, Autoencoder, and Graph Neural Network (GNN)—detect behavioral deviations across temporal, device, and role-based features, with LOF serving as the primary runtime detector. A configurable policy engine maps anomaly severity to proportional actions, from email alerts to read-only restrictions or account suspension, all reversible and auditable. Early identification and intervention support for children with disabilities improve their cognitive, educational, and social outcomes. Studies show that disability identification varies by child race and ethnicity, with children from historically marginalized populations being less likely to be identified during early childhood, where identification tends to happen in the community. One major factor that varies across communities is their resources, broadly defined as the environmental, social, and economic factors within a geographically defined area. One rationale for place-based policy is that local development produces positive productivity spillovers. We examine the employment spillovers from a large local development project: opening a casino. Comparing employment in neighborhoods that won a casino license to runner-up neighborhoods that narrowly lost, we find that casinos create jobs in their immediate vicinity. However, we estimate net job losses overall when considering the broader neighborhood. Employment gains concentrate in the leisure and hospitality industry, suggesting spillovers are industry-specific or are driven by demand-side forces like trip-chaining. We develop theory to show that our estimates imply a rapid spatial decay of productivity …

Understanding the role of humans as ‘ecosystem engineers’ requires a deep-time perspective rooted in evolutionary history and the fossil record. However, no conceptual framework exists for studying the rise of ecosystem engineering in deep time, requiring us to consider effects that fall outside the scope of traditional definitions. Here, we present a new framework applicable to both modern and ancient engineering-type effects. We propose a new term – ‘Earth system engineering’ – to describe biological processes that alter the structure and function of planetary spheres, and which combines core tenets of ecosystem engineering, niche construction, and legacy effects. The regularities of the combustion process of gaseous fuel in chamber furnaces are described. This process represents a homogeneous reaction in which there is no distinct boundary surface between the fuel and the oxidizer. It is shown that the latter either mix and then burn subsequently, or both processes occur simultaneously, corresponding respectively to kinetic and diffusion combustion. The structure of a turbulent-diffusion flame of gaseous fuel combustion is presented.

The synthesis of a feedback propagation control law for an inner tube heat exchanger with a steam jacket is addressed in this text. A controller has been developed that, based on temperature measurements taken at four points. The maintains the output temperature at a specified level by acting on the steam jacket temperature.
