Human Genetics Publications

Hispanics of Mexican American descent in South Texas show a very high prevalence of MASLD, with some studies reporting rates as high as 50% in adults. However, assessment of genetic risk factors underlying this prevalence is complicated by a high co-occurrence of other metabolic disorders and variable endogenous and exogenous environmental risk factors. To map the transcriptomic architecture of MASLD hepatic steatosis risk, we conducted an epidemiological-scale investigation using human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived hepatocyte cultures from 193 participants in our longitudinal South Texas Family Study (STFS). iPSC-based models offer greater power to map genetic risk factors by experimentally …

Converting industrial byproducts into functional adsorbents supports circular and sustainable approaches to water treatment. This study evaluated biochar derived from spent vetiver (Chrysopogon zizanioides) roots, a byproduct of the perfumery essential-oil industry, for the competitive adsorption of copper (Cu), cadmium (Cd), zinc (Zn), and lead (Pb). Vetiver root biochar produced at 500 °C for 60 min exhibited a high surface area of 308.2 m2/g and a yield of 53.8%. Batch adsorption experiments were performed in triplicate at a pH of 5.5 ± 0.2, in 0.1 M NaNO3, at 24 °C ± 2 °C, using 1% (w/v) biochar (10 g/L), with …

Plaza Off The Park, Hdfc V. Mcgowan

All Decisions

Court dismissed holdover against proprietary lessee in HDFC because petition failed to accurately describe the regulatory status of the unit and tenancy as required by RPAPL § 741(4). Court held that respondent's ability to independently discover the correct regulatory status does not obviate the landlord's burden to describe the premises accurately in the petition from the start.

This narrative review evaluates how parameter-level decisions influence the reliability and clinical translation of AI models in spine surgery.

Methods: A structured literature search of PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar was performed for English-language studies published from January 2015 through March 2025. Search terms combined spine surgery concepts with AI, machine learning, deep learning, hyperparameters, learning rate, feature selection, regularization, model validation, and training strategy. Studies were synthesized …

Purpose: While magnetic resonance-guided radiation therapy (MRgRT) may provide significant clinical advantages, delivery times tend to be longer than other radiation therapy (RT) modalities and published data on these times are limited. We evaluated longitudinal treatment times across our 8-year institutional MRgRT experience. Methods/Materials: A retrospective analysis of patients treated at our institution on a 0.35-Tesla MR-Linac between April 2018 and April 2026 was performed. All fractions were delivered with continuous intrafraction cine-MRI, soft tissue tracking, automatic beam gating, and online adaptive radiation therapy (oART) when indicated. The primary objective was to characterize changes in total in-room time …

A Sustainable Scheme For Minimizing Energy In Visual Sensor Network Using Disjoint Set Cover Approach, Shuruq Hashim, Muna Jawad, Bassam Wheedd

Engineering and Technology Journal

Directional sensors in wireless visual sensor networks attract growing attention as a promising tool for monitoring the real world; directional sensors consume energy for two main tasks: sensing and communication. Since a VSN contains a number of configurable visual sensors with changeable spherical sectors of restricted angle known as a field of view that is intended to monitor a number of targets located in a random manner over a given area. Therefore maximizing the network lifetime through minimizing power consumption while covering the targets remains a challenge. In this paper, the problem of obtaining a disjoint set cover includes a …
