Introduction: Depressive symptoms are common in the growing geriatric surgical population and are associated with important patient-centred surgical outcomes, including postoperative delirium, discharge to postacute care facility and decline in functional status. Few interventions have been developed to address depressive symptoms in the perioperative setting.

Methods and analysis: We designed a feasibility and acceptability study of a nine-session problem-solving therapy (PST) telehealth perioperative intervention aimed at reducing postoperative functional decline and depressive symptoms among at-risk older adults undergoing major surgical procedures. Acceptability will be evaluated using a patient-centred five-question survey, assessing participant satisfaction and perceived usefulness of the perioperative intervention. …

Approximately 400,000 children in the Child Welfare System have an average of more than three placement disruptions while in care in what is termed placement instability (PI). PI is a known toxin to children’s neurodevelopment that predisposes them to a life of poor behavioral outcomes. Previous research shows that foster parents dissatisfied with their carer role contributed to PI by quitting or terminating a child’s placement. Research on police culture often contrasts the “warrior” mentality, linked to aggression and control, with the “guardian” mentality, which emphasizes empathy, restraint, and community trust. Yet little research explores how police academy instructors, who shape officers’ professional identities, understand and teach these opposing orientations. This phenomenological study examined how Oklahoma police academy instructors perceive the influence of warrior and guardian mentalities on officers’ decision making and behavior in use of force encounters. Grounded in symbolic interaction theory, the study explored how meaning, socialization, and thought interact to construct officers’ self-concepts and guide behavior under pressure. This study braids together insights from two distinct areas of research: customer engagement within brands and social data analytics. Leveraging a proprietary B2B dataset from LinkedIn comprising over 200 million advertiser interactions over a subset of de-identified members, we present a data-driven exploration of the dynamics of the so-called marketing funnel. By bridging the gap between real-world digital metrics and theoretical marketing funnel models, we offer empirical insights into the interplay between engagement types and customer transitions towards purchase. In today's interconnected world, the ability to communicate distress goes beyond language and cultural differences. This presentation introduces a human-centered library service approach that addresses the urgent need for a universal understanding of help-seeking instruments applicable now and in the future.

The proposed checklist-driven method combines empathetic design, staff training, multimodal signage, and community collaboration to overcome language, cultural, and accessibility barriers. Key elements include standardized visual symbols aligned with recognized international distress and help signals, tactile and auditory formats for patrons with sensory impairments, and multilingual text paired with pictograms to minimize confusion.

Children learn language more effectively from infant-directed speech (IDS) than adult-directed speech (ADS). Three experiments were run (a pilot and two full experiments) testing the effects of pitch and pitch variability on segmenting a target word out of the speech stream and then associating it to an object. Visual prosody via eyebrow movements and lip contours were added as additional cues after the Pilot Study. Additional factors included after the Pilot Study were shortened sentences from 10 syllables each to seven syllables each, shortened target words from three syllables to two syllables, consistent syllable onset of target words, and two …

Postpartum patients are a vulnerable population affected by the opioid epidemic. In Illinois, substance use disorder is one of the leading causes of pregnancy-related deaths, with as many as 1 in 300 postpartum patients becoming addicted to opioids. Hospital care practices significantly impact patient pain management, knowledge, opioid availability, and emergency treatment for accidental overdoses.

Data visualization is an essential part of analyzing environmental geospatial data. Despite having the availability of large environmental datasets, there remains a lack of easily accessible, user-friendly, and interactive visualization tools in this field. Therefore, this study aims to develop a user-friendly and easily available web-based visualization tool. Before developing the tool, we conducted a survey of researchers at the LSU Coastal Studies Institute to collect their opinions on currently available visualization tools. Streptococcus mutans is the major cause of dental caries, which is costly to treat. The burden is worse in low- and middle-income countries, due to poor access to oral health services and diets high in free sugars. Conventional antibiofilm agents in oral health often have side effects, prompting the search for safer and affordable alternatives. This study investigates the antibiofilm activity of Zanthoxylum zanthoxyloides bark extract against biofilm-forming S. mutans. One of the common species of family Cyprinidae found in Nigeria and West Africa is Labeo coubie. They are of commercial importance in West Africa. This study embarked on the assessment of the length- weight relationship, condition factor, morphometrics and meristic characteristics of L. coubie from Esa-Odo water reservoir, Esa-Odo, Osun State Nigeria. A total of 135 (65 males and 70 females) individual L. coubie collected from fishermen were subjected to morphometric and meristic analysis. Influenza A viruses mutate very fast and this leads to the development of resistance to antivirals, hence the need to find new therapeutics. Due to their extensive traditional use, natural products are crucial resources for the discovery of drugs. Cat’s claw (Uncaria tomentosa), is a tropical vine known for various health benefits and in this study we evaluated its anti-influenza activity. Pulverized material of the stem bark was extracted using 80% ethanol, hot water, and 1% sodium bicarbonate. Ineffective leadership characteristics hinder employee engagement in the financial industry, leading to negative organizational outcomes. The purpose of this quantitative, correlational, cross-sectional study was to examine the relationship between servant leaders’ humility, active listening, and trust-building and employee engagement in U.S. private financial organizations. The servant leadership theory of serving followers and the social exchange theory of reciprocity grounded this study. Breastmilk is the optimal source of nutrition for newborns (WHO, 2019). Prenatal breastfeeding education best prepares families, yet not all patients attend hospital-offered classes due to associated fees. X-ray is considered the gold standard but not practical. Background/Rationale: After analyzing safety events and learning needs assessments, an opportunity for improving cardiovascular and respiratory knowledge was found.

Aim: This intervention sought to improve learners’ knowledge, skills, and confidence with high-risk, low-volume equipment. Evidence shows that interactive, simulation-based activities effectively engage learners and enhance critical thinking through application to clinical scenarios. There is also support for implementing a traveling education cart to disseminate information in a concise, flexible, small-group format without impeding nursing workflow.

The Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) program provides initial advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) education and quarterly competency assessments. However, its self-directed format creates gaps in effectively practicing the American Heart Association guidelines. Evidence supports that high-fidelity mannequins and Rapid Cycle Deliberate Practice (RCDP) improve resuscitation training through realistic scenarios and focused skill development.
