Despite the prevalence and toxicity of heavy metals in the environment, arsenic and cobalt are of particular concern due to their high mobility and bioaccumulation potential, particularly in contaminated groundwater. Herein, we studied the adsorption behavior of commercially available sorbents, including Fluorosorb-100 (FS-100), Fluorosorb-200 (FS-200), and Filtrasorb-400 (F-400), for the removal of arsenite (As(III)) and cobalt (Co(II)), aiming at the selection of filter media in terms of future groundwater remediation. Kinetic analysis revealed that As(III) adsorption followed a pseudo-second-order model, while Co(II) showed mixed first- and second-order behavior, reflecting sorbent-dependent mechanisms. We present a systematic study of likelihood functions used for stochastic gravitational wave background (SGWB) searches. By dividing the data into many short segments, one customarily takes advantage of the central limit theorem to justify a Gaussian cross-correlation likelihood. We show, with a hierarchy of ever more realistic examples—beginning with a single frequency bin and one detector, and then moving to two and three detectors with white and colored signal and noise—that approximating the exact Whittle likelihood by various Gaussian alternatives can induce systematic biases in the estimation of the SGWB parameters. The red-fronted brown lemur (Eulemur rufifrons) is an important species to the function of Madagascar’s ecosystems, contributing to critical ecological processes such as seed dispersal. Given its ecological, as well as cultural, importance, genomic resources for E. rufifrons are valuable for understanding evolutionary history and informing conservation strategies. In this study, we present an annotated chromosome-level genome assembly for E. rufifrons, generated using PacBio HiFi long reads and Hi-C proximity ligation data, and demonstrate its utility for understanding patterns of divergence among members of the genus Eulemur. The chromosome-level genome size is 2.41 Gb, and it exhibits high-quality metrics including …

As we age our sleep experiences decline in quality and our sleep disturbances increase with chances of full effective sleep diminishing. Older adults do not sleep as well as younger adults, with many older adults lacking an effective circadian rhythm. This lack of a proper circadian rhythm has been known to affect cognition and cause an increase in memory impairment. For older adults (OA) with Alzheimer’s and related disorders (AD) poor sleep affects not only their memory impairment and cognition but often impacts family caregivers (FGCs) sleep experiences. This research examines the role of decentralized cryptocurrencies in facilitating money laundering and the challenges they pose to Anti–Money Laundering (AML) regulations through literature review and regulatory analysis. The study reveals that the decentralized, anonymous, and borderless nature of cryptocurrency enables illicit activities via cryptocurrency ATMs, mixing services, and decentralized exchanges (DEXs). For over a decade, the same regulatory problems persist today as were present at the inception of cryptocurrencies. Current AML frameworks, such as the Bank Secrecy Act and the Money Laundering Control Act, are inadequate for this decentralized ecosystem. Abstract (as displayed in your dissertation/thesis): This Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project focused on developing a clinical practice guideline (CPG) and accompanying checklist to prevent catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs) in adult inpatients within a skilled nursing facility. CAUTIs represent the most prevalent healthcare-associated infections in both acute and long-term care environments, contributing to increased patient morbidity, prolonged hospitalization, and elevated healthcare costs. Drawing on General Strain Theory, this study examines how Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) shape the choice of coping mechanisms of inmates within correctional settings. While prior research has explored prison misconduct, little research has looked at the relationship between ACEs, negative emotions, and prison misconduct. To address this gap, this study uses the nationally representative dataset, Survey of Prison Inmates (SPI) conducted in 2016, to explore how ACEs affect prison misconduct and whether negative emotions mediate this relationship. Findings from the regression analyses suggest that inmates who experienced more ACEs experienced higher levels of negative emotions and were more likely …

This project is the first transcription of Giacomo Gorzanis’s fourth solo lute book, Opera Nova de Lauto, published in 1579, into modern notation and in a scholarly critical edition. This project discusses the lute music and works of Gorzanis, and the methodology of how this critical edition surfaced. It also discusses the historical and cultural impact of the dance movements in Libro Quarto. This project will hopefully shine a light on the importance of solo lute music composed by Giacomo Gorzanis.

This dissertation examines the geography of educational inequality in Shelby County, Tennessee, arguing that where students live and attend school is not random but the outcome of historical, socioeconomic, and political forces that shape access to opportunity. Using secondary data from state, federal, and U.S. Census sources, the study employs tract-level stepwise linear regression and Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping to investigate whether “place is destiny” for public school students. Results reveal a powerful and persistent relationship between socioeconomic need and educational outcomes. The Socioeconomic Need Index (SNI) is the strongest predictor of academic underperformance, chronic absenteeism, and lower accountability …
