Trustworthy Federated Learning Framework For Secure, Efficient, And Quality-Aware Distributed Ai, Asadullah Tariq Nov 2025

Trustworthy Federated Learning Framework For Secure, Efficient, And Quality-Aware Distributed Ai, Asadullah Tariq

Thesis/ Dissertation Defenses

Federated Learning (FL) emerged as a significant advancement in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI), enabling collaborative model training across distributed devices while maintaining data privacy. As the importance of FL and its application in various areas increased, addressing trustworthiness issues in its various aspects became crucial. In FL process, not all client data may be relevant to the learning objective and incorporating updates from irrelevant data can harm the model's performance. The selection of training samples significantly impacts model performance, as datasets with errors, skewed distributions, or low diversity can lead to inaccurate and unstable models. To address these …

Assessing Aerobic And Anaerobic Thresholds With Emphasis On Isocapnic Buffering In Endurance Runners, Yahya Mushaflar Fathi, Seyed Houtan Shahidi Dr., Prof. Dr. Mohamed Twfeq Othman Alhusaen Aga Nov 2025

Assessing Aerobic And Anaerobic Thresholds With Emphasis On Isocapnic Buffering In Endurance Runners, Yahya Mushaflar Fathi, Seyed Houtan Shahidi Dr., Prof. Dr. Mohamed Twfeq Othman Alhusaen Aga

International Journal of Exercise Science

International Journal of Exercise Science 18(5): 1381-1392, 2025. https://doi.org/10.70252/IYED1370 Accurate determination of metabolic thresholds is essential for designing effective endurance training. This study aimed to apply a multi-visit Step–Ramp–Step (SRS) protocol to identify aerobic (VT1) and anaerobic (VT2/RCP) thresholds in trained endurance runners, with a particular focus on delineating the isocapnic buffering region—the ventilatory phase between VT1 and VT2 where carbon dioxide (PetCO₂) remains stable despite rising ventilation. Twelve trained male runners (mean age: 27.1 ± 1.9 years; VO₂max: 60.5 ± 2.1 ml·kg⁻¹·min⁻¹) completed the SRS protocol across separate lab visits. Each session included a 4-minute moderate-intensity phase, a progressive …

Microcontroller Unit Allowing Power Cycling Via Existing Reset Button, Yao Ding, Yung-Ching Tseng Nov 2025

Microcontroller Unit Allowing Power Cycling Via Existing Reset Button, Yao Ding, Yung-Ching Tseng

Defensive Publications Series

This publication describes systems and techniques for initiating power cycling of an electronic device, rather than just resetting the electronic device, via a single, user-accessible reset button. For example, an electronic device that includes a microcontroller unit (MCU) may be modified by adding a power cycling circuit that is activated by a reset button that conventionally would apply a reset signal to the MCU. Responsive to activation of the reset button, the power cycling circuit disables one or more power regulators that supply power to the MCU, disconnecting the MCU from power. Disconnecting and reconnecting the MCU from power results …

Data Center Demand Response, Marisol Palmero, Faisal Abdel Kader Azizullah, Colin Seward Nov 2025

Data Center Demand Response, Marisol Palmero, Faisal Abdel Kader Azizullah, Colin Seward

Defensive Publications Series

An innovative solution is proposed herein that provides for integrating artificial intelligence (AI) with Demand Response (DR) techniques in data centers, which can significantly enhance grid resilience as renewable energy penetration increases. By dynamically managing workloads and energy consumption through AI, data centers can actively participate in DR programs under the proposed techniques, thereby providing real-time adjustments to support grid stability during periods of high demand or low supply. Additionally, by leveraging energy storage systems and aligning operations with renewable output, data centers can reduce grid strain and reliance on fossil-fuel peaker plants, thereby contributing to a sustainable energy future. …

Generating And Surfacing Contextual Ai-Generated Content During Video Playback, Ramprasad Sedouram, Raviteja Govindaraju Nov 2025

Generating And Surfacing Contextual Ai-Generated Content During Video Playback, Ramprasad Sedouram, Raviteja Govindaraju

Defensive Publications Series

Viewers watching educational videos such as students of technical subjects can sometimes experience difficulties in understanding concepts and nuances of a topic. In the absence of a live instructor, the student watching an educational video often finds it necessary to pause the video at difficult segments and search for resources external to the video, which is disruptive. This disclosure describes techniques that, with user permission, leverage artificial intelligence (AI) to detect that a user watching a video can benefit from additional explanation and automatically present a contextual nudge that offers additional in-video assistance just when the user is likely to …

Secure Data Destruction Portal To Prevent Physical Data Exfiltration, N/A Nov 2025

Secure Data Destruction Portal To Prevent Physical Data Exfiltration, N/A

Defensive Publications Series

Many physical locations such as research laboratories and secure facilities implement security measures to prevent data stored at such facilities from being leaked to the outside world. However, leakage of data via small portable electronic devices and/or storage devices by individuals that gain access to the physical location is a concern. Security personnel and physical entryways with scanning technology are deployed to mitigate this concern. However, this is a costly and imperfect solution, with no immediate destruction of data from unauthorized devices. This disclosure describes a secure data destruction portal that enables immediate destruction of data on unauthorized storage media. …

Epoxy Molding Compound (Emc) Surface Modification For Enhanced Thermal Performance Of A Wlan Module, Jay Lee, Bruce Wu, Josh Wu Nov 2025

Epoxy Molding Compound (Emc) Surface Modification For Enhanced Thermal Performance Of A Wlan Module, Jay Lee, Bruce Wu, Josh Wu

Defensive Publications Series

A typical wireless local area network (WLAN) module typically has a square or rectangular flat surface design. This poses challenges such as a longer thermal path that can lead to elevated temperature due to trapped internal heat. Also, during the thermal gel dispensing process, a flat surface may lead to improper extrusion, resulting in incomplete coverage of the target area. This can cause inadequate heat transfer and consequently, the WLAN module may fail to achieve the required thermal dissipation performance. This disclosure describes epoxy molding compound (EMC) surface design techniques. These techniques lower the molding height above front-end modules (FEMs) …

Pow, Bam, Snikt: Using Superheroes To Teach Mental Health, Christopher Dabbs Nov 2025

Pow, Bam, Snikt: Using Superheroes To Teach Mental Health, Christopher Dabbs

Journal of Thematic Instruction

Undergraduate psychopathology (abnormal psychology) courses traditionally emphasize case vignettes of individuals with psychiatric disorders to illustrate etiology, nosology, and treatment. While pedagogically useful, these depictions can inadvertently provoke distress in students, potentially impeding engagement and learning. To address this dilemma while continuing to center the same learning outcomes, I formulated a course structure which embedded some course topics in superhero-related material with the express intent to create psychological distance between potentially distressing topics and the learners themselves. This commentary provides background for the course, evidenced-based rationale for specific pedagogical choices alongside topical material recommendations, and ends with personal reflections.
