Amici are removed board members from independent federal agencies and scholars whose work includes the study of independent agencies and the separation of powers between the President and Congress. Amici advance the view that there are federal agencies whose responsibility for protecting the safety and stability of the national infrastructure or ensuring the structural integrity of government necessitates their independence. Significant negative consequences would likely follow if these agencies were to lose their independence and their work were to become politicized.

This study extends the theory of tax evasion by presenting a model of collaborative tax evasion between buyers and sellers. Buyers differ only in their level of tax morale, and tax evasion occurs when the seller fails to issue a receipt for the transaction. To counteract this, the government can disrupt the collusion between sellers and buyers by offering a tax rebate to buyers who request and retain the transaction receipt. The theoretical findings show that the tax rebate introduces a policy trade-off for the government between aggregate quantity and tax revenue. Furthermore, the marginal effect of the rebate on …

International Journal of Applied Management and Technology

The global expansion of supply chain (SC) networks improves the overall performance of the SC and increases an organization’s susceptibility to disruptions within the chain. This study examines the mediating role of supply chain disruption (SCD) between supply chain resilience practice (SCRP) and competitive advantage (CA) of manufacturing companies in Ethiopia. We employed descriptive and explanatory research designs and analyzed the data collected from 347 participants using SEM methods. The findings show that SCRP significantly affects SCD and CA. Moreover, SCRP significantly influences CA, mediated by SCD. Building and maintaining SC resilience reduces disruptions and enhances competitiveness in the ever-changing …

Investigating The Impact Of Health Information Exchange On Hospital Performance: Evidence From The United States, C. Christopher Lee, Ruoqing Zhang

International Journal of Applied Management and Technology

This study examines the impact of health information exchange (HIE) participation on hospital performance in the United States, focusing on profitability, efficiency, and quality. Analyzing data from 3,294 hospitals over 3 years (2014–2016) and using multiple regression models, the results showed a positive association between HIE participation and improved performance. HIE membership is linked to increased profitability, enhanced efficiency, and certain quality enhancements, particularly in larger, metropolitan, for-profit hospitals. However, the relationship with quality outcomes is less conclusive. Academic makerspaces have become integral hubs of innovation on university campuses, providing students with access to industrial-grade operational technology (OT) such as 3D printers and CNC machines. However, the security posture for these spaces has overwhelmingly focused on physical safety, creating a significant cybersecurity gap. This oversight leaves networked OT vulnerable to cyberattacks, which threaten student intellectual property, expensive equipment, and the integrity of the broader institutional network. Introduction: Calcific aortic valve disease (CAVD) is the most common heart valve disorder. While hypertension is a major risk factor, the mechanisms by which elevated blood pressure contributes to calcification are largely unknown. Given the established sensitivity of aortic valve (AV) tissue to mechanical cues, hypertension may subject AV leaflets to a stress state conducive to CAVD. To address this hypothesis, the objective of this study was to compare AV function and mechanics under normotensive (NTN, 120/ 80 mmHg), pre-hypertensive (preHTN, 125/80 mmHg) and hypertensive (HTN, 130/90 mmHg) conditions using fluid-structure interaction modeling.

Prostate cancer screening has been a focus of scholars since the late 20th century, as researchers have sought to address persistent disparities in early detection and mortality rates among African American men. Researchers have demonstrated that cultural beliefs, mistrust of the medical system, and limited access to healthcare significantly influence prostate cancer screening behaviors within this population.
