BACKGROUND: Intellectual developmental disorder with autism and macrocephaly (IDDAM, OMIM #615032) is an autosomal dominant neurodevelopmental disorder characterized primarily by intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorder, macrocephaly, tall stature, gastrointestinal symptoms, and variable neurological manifestations. Most cases result from de novo pathogenic variants in CHD8.

METHODS: We conducted genome sequencing through the Undiagnosed Diseases Network (UDN) in a female proband harboring a CHD8 variant of uncertain significance (VUS), whose clinical presentation was consistent with IDDAM but included atypical features such as ptosis and hearing loss. This study evaluated RapidArc Dynamic (RAD), a novel technique integrating dynamic arcs with static angle modulated ports (STAMPs) via simultaneous GPU-accelerated optimization, against conventional volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) for SBBC treatment planning and delivery efficiency.

BACKGROUND: Mucopolysaccharidosis II (MPS II) is a rare, progressive, X-linked lysosomal storage disease. Enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) with intravenous (IV) idursulfase has been approved for the treatment of patients with MPS II since 2005. The Hunter Outcome Survey (HOS; NCT03292887) was established as a condition of approval to monitor the long-term safety and effectiveness of idursulfase. Here, we report the final results from HOS.

The formation of biofilm heightens this threat by embedding bacterial cells in a polysaccharide-rich matrix that limits antibiotic penetration. Here we dissect the anti-biofilm bovine host-defense cathelicidin peptide fragment bac7 (1-35), exploring its anti-biofilm mechanism, evaluating its ability to curb colonization of the vital organs by hypervirulent K. pneumoniae, and testing its breadth of activity against diverse clinical isolates. Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) can cause severe illness, but little is known about long-term consequences in hospitalized adults. We surveyed adults (>18 years of age) who survived hospitalization for RSV or COVID-19 during February 2022-September 2023 about physical functioning and quality of life; surveys were conducted 6-12 months after hospitalization. We compared outcomes after RSV hospitalization by age (< 60 vs. >60 years) and to those hospitalized for COVID-19 by using multivariable regression models. Among 146 adults hospitalized with RSV, 27.4% reported severe breathlessness and 21.9% poor quality of life at follow-up. Few differences were seen in posthospital illness by age. …

Few studies have examined the association of ACEs with body mass index (BMI) and youth-reported protective factors, particularly among Latinx and Hispanic youths, who face higher rates of ACEs and obesity.

The soap opera effect is an unsettling feeling that some individuals experience while watching films at a high framerate. It has received little scholarly attention, and most explanations of it are speculative or anecdotal. Drawing on the mere exposure effect, this preregistered laboratory experiment provides new evidence of framerate sensitivity and cinemagoing as explanatory factors of the soap opera effect. Undergraduate students (N = 270) reported their cinemagoing and completed a novel task to measure their framerate sensitivity. They also completed a task indicating their framerate preferences. Research has shown that composite video lectures lead to higher learner satisfaction than other video lecture formats, but this finding has not been replicated among novice instructors. In this study, six PhD students created two video lectures on different topics. One used the picture-in-picture (PiP) format, while the other used the video composite format. Undergraduate student participants (N = 185) watched both video lectures by a single instructor and rated them on several variables. These applications take material form in urban spaces, with autonomous vehicles (AVs) providing a prominent example. Global sustainable finance policies are premised on publicly listed companies driving decarbonization through transparency, investor pressure, and capital market access. Analysing c. 20,000 corporate owners of renewable and fossil-fuel assets worldwide, we show the opposite: private firms own approximately 75% of global renewable generation capacity. This private dominance holds across all major technologies and regions, with listed ownership of renewable assets being the majority only in the oil & gas and technology sectors. The Paris Agreement did not alter this balance.
