Educator Perspectives Of Available Special Education Transition Programming Through High School Career And Technical Education Organizations For Female Students In Self-Contained Classrooms, Cassandra L. Aungst
Theses and Dissertations
The problem addressed in this study was that there is a lack of research regarding alignment between special education student transition assessments, transition goals, and transition programming and specifically those who identify as female students. While career readiness programs are accessible to all students, regardless of gender, female students in special education remain underrepresented in career and technical education programs. The purpose of this research was to review educational practices that influence female students with disabilities in relation to their individualized education plan transition goals and programming by addressing (a) educators’ perceptions, (b) systemic challenges, and (c) policy gaps influencing …
A Systematized Review Of The Effectiveness Of Sbirt On Reducing Adolescent Substance Use In School Settings, Mallory L. Mcivor
A Systematized Review Of The Effectiveness Of Sbirt On Reducing Adolescent Substance Use In School Settings, Mallory L. Mcivor
Educational Specialist, 2020-current
As substance use remains a pressing public concern for adolescents, the academic, social, and neurological consequences are extensive. Schools are uniquely situated to support large populations of youth during their critical developmental periods, and schools act as the ideal location for substance use prevention and intervention. This study explored the prevalence and influence of substance use on adolescents, the role of school climate in prevention and intervention efforts, and assessed the model Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) as a suitable framework for school-based interventions. Following a structured search across two databases, 20 studies met inclusion criteria and …

All Decisions
In this unregulated nonpayment proceeding, the court granted the tenant's motion for summary judgment and dismissed the petition for lack of a lease agreement. The court distinguished a prior Appellate Term holding, finding that the regulatory status of the unit made the prior decision inapplicable. The court also rejected the landlord's argument that RPL § 226-c's language about 'continuance of existing terms' creates an automatic lease renewal after expiration, holding that such an interpretation conflicts with RPL § 232-c and that payment of rent after a lease expires does not create an involuntary leasehold by statute.

All Decisions
In this nonpayment proceeding, Respondent moved to dismiss on the ground that the building was occupied in violation of the Multiple Dwelling Law because an illegal basement apartment had been created without a permit, and two DOB violations issued in 2009 remained open. The court granted the motion, holding that where a building has been altered so that the I-card is no longer accurate, MDL § 302's rent-collection bar is automatically triggered and the landlord's discontinuation of the illegal occupancy is insufficient to cure the violation.

The Use Of A Sepsis Escape Room Simulation To Enhance Undergraduate Nursing Student's Clinical Judgment, Alaina Peterson
The Use Of A Sepsis Escape Room Simulation To Enhance Undergraduate Nursing Student's Clinical Judgment, Alaina Peterson
Dissertations
Background: Less than 10% of new graduate registered nurses meet practice-ready expectations for clinical judgment competencies, and 52% of critical care nurses are unable to adequately define sepsis. Traditional clinical rotations offer inconsistent exposure to high-acuity, low-frequency events such as sepsis, leaving new graduates unprepared for independent practice. Escape room simulations use the proven effectiveness of high-fidelity simulations with gamification to develop clinical judgment through active learning, teamwork and problem-solving.
Objective: The purpose of this project was to determine the effectiveness of a sepsis escape room simulation to improve perceived clinical judgment skills of undergraduate nursing students. The intervention was …

Select Plasma Oxylipins As Potential Biomarkers Of Effective Indomethacin Treatment Response In Preterm Infants With Patent Ductus Arteriosus., Khanh C K Nguyen, Cindy H T Yeung, Allison Scott, Thomas J. Velenosi, Tamorah Lewis
Manuscripts, Articles, Book Chapters and Other Papers
OBJECTIVES: Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) is one of the most common heart conditions in preterm infants, and indomethacin treatment is used for PDA closure. However, its efficacy varies among patients. This pilot study aimed to identify novel metabolic biomarkers to predict effective indomethacin response in infants with PDA.
METHODS: Preterm infants with PDA < 34 weeks gestational age were recruited and treated with indomethacin. Plasma and urine samples were collected before and 2-7 days after initial treatment. Longitudinal targeted oxylipin and untargeted metabolomics analysis were performed on plasma and urine samples.
RESULTS: Among 17 infants, 12 were responders and 5 non-responders to indomethacin treatment. Before the treatment, four plasma oxylipins: 12,13-DiHOME, 9,10-DiHOME, 15,16-DiHODE, and 9,10-DiHODE were significantly higher in responders compared to non-responders (P < 0.05). Following treatment, these oxylipins decreased in responders but remained stable in non-responders. Urinary 12,13-DiHOME showed an opposite trend, with lower baseline concentrations in the responders.
CONCLUSIONS: Pre-treatment plasma levels of four oxylipins were associated with effective PDA response to …

Choledochoduodenostomy For The Treatment Of Extrahepatic Bile Duct Carcinoma In A Cat, Qi Zhang, Chunli Han, Anchi Zhang, Zhiying Wan, Yansong Ge, Zheng Wang, Jiasan Zheng
The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine
This paper reports a case of feline cholangiocarcinoma, a relatively rare condition in veterinary clinical practice. A 4-year-old female British Shorthair cat was presented with a 10-day history of anorexia and lethargy. An irregularly shaped mass was palpable on abdominal palpation. Diagnostic imaging and serum biochemical findings indicated extrahepatic biliary obstruction, and the diagnosis of cholangiocarcinoma was confirmed by histopathology and immunohistochemistry. Preoperative imaging in this cat indicated that the mass had not invaded major blood vessels such as the portal vein, and no evidence of distant metastasis was detected. The mass was surgically resected, followed by choledochoduodenostomy. The cat …

The two-spined trap-jaw ant, Odontomachus haematodus (Linnaeus), is native to South America and was introduced to the United States via Mobile, Alabama in the mid-twentieth century. Misidentification as a native congener for several decades has inhibited the study of the ecology of O. haematodus in its introduced range within the Gulf Coastal Plain. We conducted a multimethod survey to: 1) assess the abundance of O. haematodus across urban parks in Hattiesburg, MS, the northernmost published record in this species’ exotic range, 2) establish which sampling methodologies are most effective for conducting urban surveys of O. haematodus, and 3) study …

Black American Cemeteries And Our Need For The Stories They Tell, Vincent H. Melomo
Black American Cemeteries And Our Need For The Stories They Tell, Vincent H. Melomo
Proceedings of the annual meeting of the Southern Anthropological Society
In recent decades, there have been increasing efforts to recognize, protect, and restore Black American historic cemeteries. At the same time, many of the historic communities in which these cemeteries lie have become increasingly gentrified. As the built environment has been reconstructed, communities have been displaced and histories erased. Nevertheless, historic cemeteries remain as stubborn and defiant reminders of those histories and provide an opportunity to challenge those erasures. This paper will tell the story of historic cemeteries in Raleigh, North Carolina, addressing key aspects of their histories, highlighting racial inequalities. It will address some of the challenges confronted by …

Before The Gravestones: Uncovering The Past Of The Jonesville Historic African American Cemetery, Najiyah Williams
Proceedings of the annual meeting of the Southern Anthropological Society
This research investigates the Jonesville Cemetery, a historic African American cemetery located on the Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta, Georgia. Once a cemetery to a thriving freedman town, the Jonesville Cemetery was neglected for decades. Even though the cemetery is currently being maintained through joint volunteer effort between military personnel and community members, the cemetery still sits in the middle of the woods with a plethora of marked and unmarked graves. This mixture of marked and unmarked graves is also coupled with an inconsistency in the documentation of burials through death certificates. Due to years of community members coming …

Choreographies Of Peruvian Reality: Conflicts In Surf Media's Digital Worlds, Tuck Rodi
Proceedings of the annual meeting of the Southern Anthropological Society
This paper mobilizes the concept of the choreography of surfing to analyze networks of surfers, media creators, digital technologies, and development NGOs through which surfing becomes a device for sociopolitical and economic projects in Peru. Surf media, this paper’s object of analysis, includes all films, video blogs, and documents that incorporate surfing as a constitutive ingredient in their visual and discursive content. With the rise of online video-sharing platforms, surf media has become a digital world unto itself. This world is made through interactions among viewers, photographers, and their surfing subjects. Democratization of video-sharing platforms capacitates filmmakers to break from …
Tourism, Security, And Sacred Space At Bethany Beyond The Jordan, Olivia Stockwell
Tourism, Security, And Sacred Space At Bethany Beyond The Jordan, Olivia Stockwell
Proceedings of the annual meeting of the Southern Anthropological Society
Bethany Beyond the Jordan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site advertised as the baptismal site of Jesus of Nazareth, lies on the border between Jordan and the occupied West Bank. Based on first-person observation, this article provides a semiotic analysis of how tourist spaces, commodification, and security infrastructure interact to create perceptions of sacred space. When placed in conversation with the historical and political contexts of the site, these factors provide insight into how meanings of sacrality are generated. I argue that notions of the sacred at Bethany Beyond the Jordan are shaped by tourism spaces and their organizing of ritual …

Oil Shocks Fade, Equity Shocks Persist: Evidence From Wti Crude Oil And The S&P 500, Bharti Bharti
Critical Letters in Economics & Finance
This paper examines the volatility behaviour of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil and the S&P 500 stock market index from January 2007 to December 2024. Daily prices for WTI and the S&P 500 are collected from LSEG-DataStream. Univariate GARCH(1,1) models are applied to examine volatility patterns, as this model captures volatility persistence over time. Before applying the GARCH models, descriptive statistics, the Augmented Dickey-Fuller (ADF) test, ARCH-LM test, and correlation analysis are conducted to confirm the suitability of the data. The results show that both WTI and the S&P 500 are I(1) processes and that they experience strong volatility …
