This paper examines the relationship between Italian fashion and American hip hop culture during the late 1980s and early 1990s, with special attention to the Florentine brand Gucci. This project of-fers an overview that explores the respective histories of both the brand and genre to identify the con-gruencies that made Gucci a staple among hip hop artists and their audiences. Analysis draws from a variety of sources including articles, press materials, music videos, advertisements, and red carpet ap-pearances to tell the story of how Gucci became so visible in hip hop. Feasibility Study Of Utilizing Basalt Rocks As A Radiation Shielding Material, Essam Banoqitah

Journal of King Abdulaziz University: Engineering Sciences

This study investigates the potential of basalt rock from the Harrat Rahat region in Saudi Arabia as a natural shield against gamma/X-ray radiation. Its composition and structure were examined using SEM and EDAX, and its gamma-ray shielding ability was tested through lab experiments and GATE-based simulations up to 1.3 MeV. The results showed that basalt is quite effective at attenuation low- to medium-energy gamma rays, with performance dropping at higher energies. Despite not matching the strength of specialized shielding materials, basalt's availability, density, and reliable performance at lower energies make it a practical and accessible option for moderate radiation protection.

Lattice Thermal Transport Beyond The Quasiparticle Approximation: Nontrivial Spectral Competition Between Three- And Four-Phonon Interactions, Yi Xia

The breakdown of the quasiparticle approximation (QPA) for phonons in strongly anharmonic materials necessitates advanced first-principles frameworks for accurate lattice dynamics and thermal transport predictions. We develop a comprehensive beyond-quasiparticle approximation (BQPA) approach incorporating both three- (3ph) and four-phonon (4ph) interactions and apply it to investigate lattice thermal conductivity (κL) in MgO, PbTe, and AgCl – materials that span a broad spectrum of anharmonicity, from weak to severe anharmonic regimes with overdamped phonons. We reveal that while BQPA consistently increases κL relative to QPA due to phonon softening when considering only 3ph interactions, the inclusion of additional 4ph interactions hardens …

Micropipes, with their sizeable surface-area-to-volume ratio, result in an elevated heat transfer rate, making them excellent tools for compact heat exchangers, offering the advantage of higher heat removal capacities. Discrepancies exist between classical macro-pipe flows and micro-pipe flows in the literature, and one of the reasons is the assumption of constant thermo-physical properties. Analyzing microchannel flows with water as the fluid at a constant wall temperature with varying properties is paramount in understanding the fundamentals of heat transfer. This study aims to examine isomorphism, network governance, and the spectrum of participation, as classified by the International Association of Public Participation, in the management of the elderly quality of life development and career promotion centers (EQCCs). This study applied the concepts of isomorphism from institutional theory, network governance, and spectrum of participation as defined by the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2), as the instruments for analysis. The findings revealed that EQCCs’ isomorphism emerged before and after the establishment. The three isomorphism mechanisms—coercive, mimetic, and normative—affected the isomorphism of the EQCCs, leading to organization homogenization. However, the management of …

Building on prior concepts of electronic money (eCash), we introduce a digital currency where a physical unclonable function (PUF) engenders devices with the twin properties of being verifiably enrolled as a member of a legitimate set of eCash devices and possessing of a hardware-based root-of-trust. A hardware-obfuscated secure enclave (HOSE) is proposed as a means of enabling a PUF-based propagation-of-provenance (POP) mechanism, which allows eCash tokens (eCt) to be securely signed and validated by recipients without incurring any third party dependencies at transfer time. Laponite® 2D Nanosilicates (NS) are disc-shaped platelets (~30 nm diameter, ~1 nm thick) with positively charged edges and negatively charged faces, capable of loading proteins, drugs, and nucleic acids via electrostatic interactions to form a house-of-cards gel that sequesters cargo. Here, we evaluated NS for sustained delivery of antigens and Toll-like receptor (TLR) agonists to extend germinal center duration and enhance antibody quality. The model antigen ovalbumin (OVA) was adsorbed onto NS at acidic pH in a ~1:1 ratio, with partial unfolding that remained stable at physiological pH. Assessing ecosystem service (ES) demand remains conceptually fragmented and methodologically inconsistent in social-ecological systems (SES) research due to the lack of a framework linking human preferences to benefits derived from ES fruition. This study develops a systematic typology of ES demand assessment based on an integrative review of empirical studies. We conceptualize demand as emerging from two competing modalities: the consumption of provisioning and cultural services, which may drive ecosystem depletion, and the need for risk reduction through regulating services, which supports ecosystem preservation.
