Targeting Chemical Carcinogenesis: Α-Pinene And D-Limonene As Chemopreventive Agents Against Nnk/ Tcdd- And Urethane-Induced Lung Tumorigenesis, Kuo-Ching Huang, Vui-Hyen Chew, Yu-Ying Chen, Huey-Jen Su, Hao-Ting Chang, Rong‑Jane Chen, Ying‑Jan Wang

Journal of Food and Drug Analysis

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide, driven by carcinogens such as tobacco-derived nitrosamines, dioxins, and urethane. This study evaluated the chemopreventive effects of two monoterpenes, α-pinene and D-limonene, using NNK/TCDD- and urethane-induced lung tumor models and A549 lung cancer cells. Both compounds significantly reduce tumor number and size, with enhanced effects when combined. Mechanistic studies revealed suppression of PRC1, β-catenin, and c-Myc, alongside activation of p53, Bax, and caspase-3, indicating inhibition of the PRC1—Wnt/β-catenin pathway and induction of apoptosis. These findings suggest α-pinene and D-limonene as safe, promising agents for lung cancer chemoprevention.

Excessive fructose intake leads to fatty liver and kidney dysfunction, with associated inflammation and metabolic disturbances. This study evaluated the effects of fish oil rich in ω-3 fatty acid on these conditions in rats fed a high- fructose diet. Male Sprague Dawley rats were divided into three groups: normal diet, high-fructose (HF) diet, and high- fructose diet with 5% fish oil supplementation. The experiment lasted for 21 weeks. Fish oil supplementation significantly reduced blood levels of total cholesterol, triglycerides, and advanced glycation end products (AGEs) in HF-fed rat. Primary dysmenorrhea is one of the most common complaints among young women. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of chamomile and L-theanine beverage intake on menstrual symptoms, pain intensity, mood, and sleep quality in young adult females with primary dysmenorrhea, using a two-phase continuous study design. In the first phase, a cross-sectional study was conducted to assess the prevalence of primary dysmenorrhea. The quality of avocado oil is influenced by multiple factors, including cultivar, growing region, drying method, harvest season, fruit maturity, extraction technique, and storage conditions. This review aims to show how fatty acid profiles (FAP), combined with principal component analysis (PCA), can be used to characterize avocado oil based on various established factors. A total of 23 peer-reviewed articles were included, encompassing 143 data points. PCA was applied as an exploratory tool to reduce dimensionality and visualize patterns in the data. Social and emotional learning (SEL) has become a central focus in early childhood education as researchers and practitioners seek effective, developmentally informed strategies to support children's emotional regulation, resilience, and long-term well-being. This capstone project synthesizes empirical and theoretical research published between 2018 and 2023 to examine the effectiveness of SEL interventions, their role in trauma-informed education, and their potential to mitigate long-term risks associated with early adversity. This study examines audit fee determinants in the U.S. retail sector using 664 firm-year observations from 83 publicly traded firms between 2016 and 2023. Applying a multi-method approach including Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regression, Classification and Regression Trees (CART), and K-Means Clustering, the analysis evaluates how client characteristics, auditor attributes, and engagement-specific factors influence audit pricing, particularly during disruptions such as COVID-19 and the rise of e-commerce. OLS results show that client size, operational complexity, and auditor quality are the most consistent predictors of audit fees. Internal control weaknesses, corporate restructurings, governance activity, and client prominence also contribute significantly. Notably, …

Journal of King Abdulaziz University: Engineering Sciences

This study investigates the potential of basalt rock from the Harrat Rahat region in Saudi Arabia as a natural shield against gamma/X-ray radiation. Its composition and structure were examined using SEM and EDAX, and its gamma-ray shielding ability was tested through lab experiments and GATE-based simulations up to 1.3 MeV. The results showed that basalt is quite effective at attenuation low- to medium-energy gamma rays, with performance dropping at higher energies. Despite not matching the strength of specialized shielding materials, basalt's availability, density, and reliable performance at lower energies make it a practical and accessible option for moderate radiation protection.

The breakdown of the quasiparticle approximation (QPA) for phonons in strongly anharmonic materials necessitates advanced first-principles frameworks for accurate lattice dynamics and thermal transport predictions. We develop a comprehensive beyond-quasiparticle approximation (BQPA) approach incorporating both three- (3ph) and four-phonon (4ph) interactions and apply it to investigate lattice thermal conductivity (κL) in MgO, PbTe, and AgCl – materials that span a broad spectrum of anharmonicity, from weak to severe anharmonic regimes with overdamped phonons. We reveal that while BQPA consistently increases κL relative to QPA due to phonon softening when considering only 3ph interactions, the inclusion of additional 4ph interactions hardens …

This study aims to examine isomorphism, network governance, and the spectrum of participation, as classified by the International Association of Public Participation, in the management of the elderly quality of life development and career promotion centers (EQCCs). This study applied the concepts of isomorphism from institutional theory, network governance, and spectrum of participation as defined by the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2), as the instruments for analysis. The findings revealed that EQCCs’ isomorphism emerged before and after the establishment. In recent decades, the Global North and South have established a number of global economic governance (GEG) clubs, including the Group of 77 (G77), Group of 7 (G7), Group of 20 (G20), and BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) Group, to influence the global economic order. Many sovereign countries and intergovernmental organizations have assumed influential roles in the GEG system by joining these governance platforms as full members.
