Smart devices are ubiquitous in modern environments, yet their decommissioning phase remains poorly studied and often overlooked in system design. We define secure decommissioning as the process by which a smart device securely disconnects from its environment and makes sensitive data inaccessible. If not decommissioned, devices may retain sensitive information – such as security credentials or user-behavior data that could be recovered by an adversary. Unfortunately, some users may forget to decommission a device when they dispose or sell it, and cannot decommission a device that is lost or stolen. We present a grading system that accelerates evaluation of open-ended student work across scanned and digital workflows. The system crops answer regions from PDFs, assigns submissions via OCR on identity regions only, and groups answers by visual semantics using a vision LLM. Instructors review and edit groups, apply rubric items once per group, and export grades from an on-screen table. The solution integrates Ghostscript rasterization, PdfPig page orchestration, SkiaSharp region extraction, Tesseract identity OCR, and GPT-4o Vision for grouping. In this paper, the collaborative efforts of a Government Documents Librarian, an Art Librarian, and an Emerging Media and Digital Arts Professor at a regional public university with a liberal arts focus are detailed. The collaborative project began as a way to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the university library's membership in the Federal Library Depository Program. Throughout the summer of 2020 and into the following fall, a cross-unit working group at the University of Oklahoma Libraries (OU Libraries) collaborated to compile and submit a proposal to change the Library of Congress Subject Heading (LCSH) Tulsa Race Riot, Tulsa, Okla., 1921 to Tulsa Race Massacre, Tulsa, Okla., 1921. The working group members situated this project in the context of the metadata justice movement, which seeks to correct problematic descriptions. Improving the performance of academically weak students remains a major challenge in developing countries, particularly in the context of the ‘leave no one behind’ agenda. This study examines the roles of ability grouping and remedial classes in enhancing academic efficiency among students in India and Vietnam. Drawing data from 17,866 students in the 2016/17 Young Lives School Survey, this study estimated efficiency scores by using the order-alpha partial frontier approach, and their determinants were assessed through a bootstrap truncated regression model. Climate change is a global phenomenon that poses a significant threat to agricultural farming and the livelihoods of farmers, particularly in semi-arid regions of Sub-Saharan Africa. Since agriculture is the primary source of employment in the region, enhancing the sector’s adaptive capacity has become increasingly important. This paper examines the key determinants influencing farmers’ choices of adaptation strategies to climate change impacts in the Mwanga and Same Districts of Tanzania. Verb extension morphological affixes that significantly alter verb meaning are a defining characteristic of Bantu languages. This paper investigates the morphosyntactic behaviour, semantic implications, and functional roles of extensions within Kuria, a Bantu language of Tanzania. The study adopts Hyman’s morphocentric approach, specifically the CARP template (Causative-Applicative-Reciprocal-Passive), as its foundational framework to test whether Kuria adheres to this pan-Bantu default ordering. The data were collected in Tarime District (2014-2015) using a mixed methods approach, comprising questionnaires, semi-structured interviews, and video stimuli with 13 rural and urban speakers, and text analysis (the Kuria Bible). Bantu languages have a robust structure, which is usually stated to be agglutinative, accommodates affixations of a wide range of morphemes both as prefixes (to the left of the root), as well suffixes (to the right of the root) before placing the terminal vowel. In their verbal morphology, the reciprocal is one of the many derivational affixes that have, however, not gained similar prominence as the study of the applicative and the causative construction. This article explores the experiences of doctoral students with criminal records navigating higher education, using a critical theoretical framework to highlight the unique challenges and triumphs I faced. Drawing upon decoloniality and critical race theory perspectives and activism, I define my critical scholarship as challenging the dominant oppression through thoughts and actions. Through autoethnographic and self-reflective narratives, I reflect on how my lived experiences as a Latino who has experienced criminalization. I have shaped my academic pursuits and critical consciousness. Background

Analyses of a bipartite Genotype and Phenotype Network (GPN), linking the genetic variants and phenotypes based on statistical associations, provide an integrative approach to elucidate the complexities of genetic relationships across diseases and identify pleiotropic loci. In this study, we assess contributions to constructing a well-defined GPN with a clear representation of genetic associations by comparing the network properties with a random network, including connectivity, centrality, and community structure. Then, we extend our discussion to include two applications of bipartite GPN in disease heritability enrichment analysis and phenome-wide association studies (PheWAS).

Ordered crystalline compounds exhibiting ultralow and glass-like thermal conductivity are both fundamentally and technologically important, where phonon quasi-particles dominate their heat transport. Understanding the microscopic mechanisms that govern such unusual transport behavior is necessary to unravel the complex interplay of crystal structure, phonons, and collective excitations of these quasi-particles. Here, we use state-of-the-art first-principles calculations based on quantum density functional theory to investigate the origin of experimentally measured unusually low and glassy thermal conductivity in semiconducting TlAgTe that possesses disconnected chains of Tl atoms within its three-dimensional crystalline framework made up of distorted AgTe4 tetrahedra. Objective: To assess the efficacy of combination therapy of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and topical 5% minoxidil compared to topical 5% minoxidil alone in androgenetic alopecia (AGA). Methods: A PubMed search using the term “PRP hair” was conducted. The following criteria were used for the search: published in the last 10 years, randomized controlled trials, clinical trials, free full text, and full text. Three articles that met these criteria were chosen for systematic review. Results: In all three studies, the combination of PRP with topical 5% minoxidil had increased hair density and higher patient satisfaction compared to topical minoxidil alone. Conclusion: …

Objective: Assess the efficacy and safety of oral ketamine as alternative therapy for those with treatment resistant depression (TRD). Design: Literature review. Methods: On November 14, 2024, a search was done in Pubmed and James Madison University’s EBSCO Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection for the terms “ketamine” and “treatment resistant depression,” excluding parenteral routes of administration and including only randomized controlled trials in adults published in 2018-2024. Results: Three randomized controlled trials that utilized evidence-based surveys to assess antidepressant effects were analyzed. Conclusion: The antidepressant effects of oral ketamine found in these RCTs were somewhat mixed. Oral ketamine did appear …

Objective: To compare symptom management of atopic dermatitis between injectable monoclonal antibodies and an oral Janus kinase 1 (JAK1) inhibitor. Design: Literature review. Methods: Searches were done in PubMed and CINAHL using the following terms: abrocitinib, Cibinqo, dupilumab, Dupixent, and atopic dermatitis. Filters included: randomized controlled trials, clinical trials, and scholarly journal. Results: Three studies met all criteria including Bieber et al, Reich et al, and Huang et al. Conclusion: Oral JAK1 inhibitor abrocitinib has been shown to have similar efficacy in symptom management of moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis compared to monoclonal antibody dupilumab and should be considered when prescribing treatment.

Objective: To compare clinical outcomes of surgical mitral valve replacement (SMVR) and TEER with MitraClip therapy in patients with secondary mitral regurgitation.

Methods: We performed a review of the literature of primary research comparing clinical outcomes of surgical mitral valve replacement (SMVR) and TEER with MitraClip therapy in patients with secondary mitral regurgitation. A preliminary search of the medical database PubMed was conducted in October 2024 using the terms mitral valve, secondary mitral regurgitation, transcatheter edge-to-edge repair, surgical candidacy, and comparative outcomes.
