Chukar (Alectoris chukar) are a non-native bird that has naturalized in North America following its introduction over a century ago. Today, the species supports hunting opportunities in 11 U.S. states and one Canadian province. Despite its wide distribution and recreational value, key aspects of chukar ecology remain poorly understood. Limited information is available on the species' spatial ecology, including patterns of space use. Likewise, information regarding the influence of weather on population dynamics of chukar has not been formally conducted. Background: Immobility in hospitalized patients presents numerous physical and physiological complications. Evidence suggests circadian variation negatively impacts various bodily functions and overall quality of life. Interventions such as waking patients during the day and keeping them active can help maintain a normal sleep-wake cycle. This early-to-rise and mobility project builds on a successful pilot in the hospital’s stroke unit that demonstrated a decrease in the length of stay (LOS) of stroke patients after three months.

Purpose: To prevent complications and improve efficiency, the project aims to increase patients’ mobility, decrease patients’ LOS, and lower the LOS index.

Background: Across the U.S., there is a current undergraduate nursing faculty vacancy. Subsequently, there is a large number of qualified nursing students denied admission to nursing programs. These shortages contribute to the bigger issue of the U.S. professional nursing shortage. Previous research has shown that student-to-faculty incivility results in many negative psychological outcomes, which can lead to faculty considerations of leaving the profession.

American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) adults experience higher rates of type 2 diabetes and worse glycemic control than non-Hispanic White Americans. Despite the importance of medication adherence for T2DM management, there is only one study in the last 15 years examining the relationship between medication adherence and A1C among AI/ANs. Furthermore, T2DM research among AI/ANs has largely been conducted within Indian Health Service and Tribal healthcare systems, though most AI/ANs live outside of reservations, meaning many use commercial health systems. Algal biofuels have been investigated as an alternative to fossil fuels and first-generation biofuels for transportation in the United States since the 1970s. Yet after five decades of development, scalability and implementation remain limited—largely due to persistent barriers such as low biomass productivity, modest lipid yields, and energy-intensive processing methods. These technical challenges significantly constrain the feasibility of large-scale commercialization despite substantial research and investment. INTRODUCTION: Use of digital health technology can improve patient health outcomes; however, not all patients have the knowledge and skills to download a health app and access a patient portal. Providing digital onboarding support to hospitalized patients has potential to overcome some barriers to accessing needed education in the community, including both having the time and a location to receive education. To address this, our team developed the Jefferson Digital Onboarding Taskforce (JeffDOT), a group of staff and students who approach hospitalized patients and provide one-on-one teaching on how to sign up for and use a patient portal.

The Employment Situation Of Veterans: November 2025, Institute For Veterans And Military Families At Syracuse University

Institute for Veterans and Military Families

The November 2025 Employment Situation Report shows that U.S. employment changed little, while the overall unemployment rate held at 4.6 percent. Veteran unemployment rose from 2.6 percent in September to 3.4 percent in November, with Post‑9/11 veterans experiencing a sharper increase to 4.3 percent. Unemployment patterns varied widely across veteran age groups: rates spiked for ages 18–24 and 35–44, while veterans 45–54 and those 65+ saw declines. Female veteran unemployment fell significantly, while male veteran unemployment rose. Racial disparities persisted, with Black veteran unemployment rising and Hispanic veteran unemployment falling.

Since 2018 twenty-two states and the District of Columbia have implemented administrative changes that provide a third gender option on at least one state identification document allowing nonbinary and intersex people the opportunity to select a gender marker that reflects their gender identity. This study draws from 28 interviews with agender or otherwise nonbinary people living in Maryland and California. I use queer of color and critical trans theory to consider the implications of legal gender marker changes. This article offers insights into challenges encountered in the landscaping of a doctoral thesis written in counterpoint with its traditional map. The inspiration behind the author’s thesis is a sixteen-year-old withdrawn from an English Further Education college on her first day. Consequently, the thesis troubles seemingly rigid orthodox academic structures and writing conventions, which potentially act as a barrier to learning. Animating the (non)methodological approaches of a PhD thesis written for everyone denied the opportunity of fulfilling their academic potential, this paper engages with speculative and experimental approaches to research, asking not ‘what is’, but ‘what if’.

Selective autophagy of mitochondria is known to promote cancer cell survival and progression, including in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). Here, we apply an integrated multi-omics approach together with functional experimental analyses to investigate metabolic adaptations that support mitochondrial quality control in TNBC. We detail a mitochondrial quality control mechanism, complementary to mitophagy, that is enabled by a program of heightened extracellular sphingomyelin salvaging in TNBC coupled with extracellular vesicle-mediated intracellular clearance of mitochondrial damage. Targeting of this onco-metabolic pathway via repurposing of eliglustat, a selective small molecule inhibitor of glucosylceramide synthase, results in ceramide-mediated compensatory mitophagy and cancer cell death …

Unresectable Angiosarcoma Of The Head And Neck: A Case Report Highlighting Genomic Alterations, Targeted Therapy, And Clinical Response, Vasisht Karri, Samir Dalia

Angiosarcoma of the head and neck is an aggressive malignancy with limited therapeutic options when unresectable. We report the case of a 73-year-old male with advanced scalp and neck angiosarcoma characterized by MYC amplification and high tumor mutational burden. He received a multimodal treatment strategy including dual immune checkpoint blockade (nivolumab and ipilimumab) combined with cabozantinib, followed by paclitaxel and subsequent pazopanib. This approach achieved prolonged disease control exceeding 18 months, with manageable toxicities through dose adjustments and supportive care. Genomic profiling guided therapeutic decisions and highlighted the role of MYC amplification and tumor mutational burden as potential biomarkers for …

Mapping the entire transcriptome at single-cell resolution under its natural spatial context is essential for investigating the oncogenesis and progression of diseases. The recently emerged targeted in-situ technologies retain the spatial organization of cells at high resolution, although they remain limited in the number of genes that can be simultaneously measured. To overcome this obstacle, numerous computational methods have been developed to predict unmeasured gene expression in spatial transcriptomics data by leveraging scRNA-seq data. Treatment of lung adenocarcinomas (LUADs) that exhibit activated epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) with EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) has limited efficacy. Assessment of the impact of EGFR TKI on the LUAD surfaceome remodeling reveals potential therapeutic targets. We identify placental type alkaline phosphatase (ALPP), which has restricted expression in normal tissues, among upregulated surface proteins following EGFR TKI treatment of both TKI sensitive as well as resistant cells. EGF treatment represses ALPP expression, whereas EGFR TKIs upregulate its expression through dephosphorylation and activation of FoxO3a, a transcriptional regulator that binds to the promoter region of ALPP. Immunological intratumor heterogeneity (ImTH) describes the variability in the types, spatial distribution, and functional states of immune cells within tumors. While evidence suggests that ImTH influences tumor progression and therapeutic response, few studies have provided a quantitative characterization of ImTH. Here, we present Scoring Immunological Intratumor Heterogeneity (ScImTH), a novel algorithm that quantifies ImTH by calculating the Shannon entropy of immune cell type proportions within the tumor microenvironment. Using bulk, single-cell, and spatial transcriptomic datasets, we show that reduced ScImTH scores are associated with unfavorable survival outcomes, tumor progression-related molecular and phenotypic features, immunosuppressive states, and resistance to immunotherapy across …

Historical maps retain tremendous research value in the digital era. While many libraries have digitized their maps to expand research access, challenges remain for preserving physical maps. This project report describes a collection condition assessment survey at a public library using free online tools and volunteer hours to identify preservation issues and develop strategies to improve collection care. Collection condition surveys can serve as a road map for further preservation, conservation, and digitization projects.

Over 55% of young adults in the United States have experienced some form of leadership development; however, their leadership skills are not being used within the church. Nearly 60% of those who regularly attended church during their youth are distancing themselves from it (Barna, 2023). Nonetheless, the same report suggested a link between youth who were well-integrated into a youth ministry and those who stayed active in the church. The purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study was to explore the lived K—12th grade learning experience of formerly incarcerated adults with specific learning disorders (SLDs) and learning-based posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms. This study aimed to understand how specific learning disorders affected school learning experiences and obtain input on how to improve learning in schools. A transcendental phenomenological approach was utilized in this qualitative study to obtain and report trustworthy research findings that represented the overall essence of the participants’ lived learning experiences. This qualitative phenomenological study explored Black women’s perceptions of misogyny, patriarchy, and gender discrimination within Black American Christian churches. While research has examined adolescent social and emotional development in relation to religion, little attention has been given to how negative religious experiences shape psychological development. This study addressed that gap by examining how systems of oppression are encountered from adolescence through adulthood. Fourteen Black women ages 35–60 were recruited through social media and participated in 60–75-minute interviews. This qualitative study examined how transitioning military service members (TMSMs) navigating the Medical Evaluation Board (MEB) and the Integrated Disability Evaluation System (IDES) used spiritual and vocational resources to manage stress and cope with identity loss. Using an interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) approach, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 10 participants enrolled in or recently completing the Ch. 31 Veterans Readiness & Employment (VR&E) or another vocational training program. The interviews were audio recorded, transcribed, and analyzed through repeated cycles of coding, memoing, and theme development. Bullying experiences in childhood have been found to significantly affect mental health in adulthood, particularly through depression and anxiety. Spirituality has been identified as a protective factor for mental health, contributing to quality of life, satisfaction, and purpose. It may also buffer the effects of violence and bullying. This correlational study examined the relationships among childhood bullying, spirituality, and adult mental health in a sample of individuals from Puerto Rico (N=124). Specifically, whether spirituality moderates the relationship between childhood bullying and adult mental health outcomes. Since the 1960s, historians have focused on American inaction during the Holocaust, concluding that the War Refugee Board (WRB) was the definitive involvement of the United States in aiding the Jews in Nazi occupied Europe. Consequently, American aid efforts preceding the creation of the WRB remain unfamiliar and underexplored.
