The present article offers an overview of the Oxford English Dictionary’s (OED) continuing efforts to improve its coverage of words originating from world varieties of English, such as those spoken in Anglophone communities in postcolonial Southeast Asia. In these new centers of English, millions of second-language speakers use a variety of linguistic mechanisms to adapt the English word store to their unique cultural and social milieu, and the OED is documenting this distinctive vocabulary by including a wider range of lexical innovations from Southeast Asian varieties of English that more accurately reflect the way that the language is being used …

In this paper, we systematically demonstrate the design and analysis of a new type of ultra-broadband tunable metamaterial perfect absorber (MPA) comprising a top vanadium dioxide (VO2) based patterned resonating patch, a continuous metallic film at the bottom, and an intermediate dielectric substrate having a thickness of only 0.18 at the center working frequency. The simulation results reveal that the absorber achieves a bandwidth of 7.26 THz, ranging from 5.40 THz to 12.66 THz, with more than 90% absorptance and an average absorption of 98.21% under normal incidence of the incoming THz wave. Community health needs assessments (CHNAs) are vital tools for identifying population health priorities through monitoring chronic diseases and conditions; however, their effectiveness in preventing chronic diseases remains debated. This comparative study examines CHNAs from sixteen South Dakota hospitals across Avera, Sanford, Monument Health, and independent systems to evaluate their role in preventing chronic diseases. Analysis reveals significant challenges, including biased data sampling, limited community engagement, small survey samples, and inconsistent implementation strategies. While CHNAs effectively identify mental health, cancer, and obesity as the top community concerns alongside several other diseases like diabetes and kidney disease, most reports lack specific timelines …

Objective: A modeling and simulation tool, OpenSim, was used to determine the optimal relationship between actuator stiffness and actuation timing of a passive ankle exoskeleton for reducing metabolic costs during walking. We hypothesized that the absolute minimum in total metabolic cost would exist at an actuation timing of 15% of stance and at a spring stiffness of 7.5 kN/m. We also hypothesized that a local minimum in total metabolic cost would exist at an actuation timing of 50% of stance. A wealth of clinical research has uncovered the presence of mental health treatment disparities and a lack of treatment consistency when working with clients of dissimilar identities. The purpose of this dissertation study was to investigate potential causes for the observed disparities minoritized individuals have experienced and understand if cultural humility was a variable that affected mental health treatment satisfaction when counselor-client had dissimilar cultural identities. The widespread availability of generative artificial intelligence has weakened traditional assessment methods in Information Systems and Business Analytics education. In DS 774/874, AI and Emerging Technologies in Business (formerly E-Business) at the University of New Hampshire, auto-graded assignments and presentation-based deliverables no longer reliably indicate student understanding, as AI can generate correct or polished outputs with minimal engagement. Estuaries, as ecologically sensitive brackish water mixing zones, face a critical bottleneck in refined management because traditional zonation based on socioeconomic attributes overlooks the ecological heterogeneity driven by salinity gradients and nutrient stoichiometry, leading to a disconnect between management measures and conservation needs. This study proposes a novel approach to coastal zonation using nitrogen and phosphorus nutrient criteria as an ecological benchmark. Overall ecological criteria are established for the Yellow River estuary (dissolved inorganic nitrogen: 0.258 mg/L; phosphate: 0.015 mg/L) and a differentiated management scheme is constructed based on a salinity gradient (26.5 PSU boundary). Since its establishment in 2001, the Duolun Restoration Ecology Station, Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences (Duolun Station) has been dedicated to addressing severe grassland degradation and slow economic development in the agro-pastoral ecotone, north of Beijing. A series of systematic studies were conducted on the degraded grassland ecosystem in the agro-pastoral ecotone of Duolun County, Inner Mongolia. The major research findings are summarized as follows. Midwest Vegetable Trial Reports

Pumpkin variety demonstrations were conducted in 2025 at the West Central Michigan Research and Extension Center in Hart, MI, to compare yield, size class, and irrigation response among 21 pumpkin varieties representing jack-o’-lantern, large carving, and decorative cultivars. Demonstration plots were established on sandy soil under standard commercial fertility, pest management, and weed control practices. To assess irrigation effects under dry conditions, approximately 60% of each plot received supplemental sprinkler irrigation.

Jack-o’-lantern varieties varied in size distribution, with some producing a mix of 60, 45, and 30–35 count fruit with few larger-sized pumpkins. Others skewed toward larger bin count classes. …

The history of Shakespeare in South Africa is that of an often contested cultural battleground, with meanings fought over across a colonial boundary. In Chapter One, we examine some of the many cultural intersections between Shakespeare and South African rewriters. In the process, we can see how Shakespeare came to the region as a tool for colonial domination, but would eventually be used to rebuke the colonial narrative that was conservatively ascribed to him. He was used to enforce racial and political hierarchies, particularly through missionary education and institutions like the “Kaffir Institution.” The anxieties surrounding the ‘overproduction’ of Western-educated …
